I have a nervous breakdown in the film and in one scene I get to stand at the top of the stairs waving an empty sherry bottle which is, of course, a typical scene from my daily life, so isn't much of a stretch.

Albatross Draggers
Sad are the grabbers dragging,
An albatross displayed.
As a familiar routine...
Meant to be seen daily on the scene.
Yet flavored in dismay,
With a bitterness each day.
Typical and analytical are they,
To be living to be gimmicked.
And be living in such limits.
And...
Typical and analytical are they,
To be living to be gimmicked.
And be living in such limits.
Sad are the grabbers dragging,
An albatross displayed.
As a familiar routine...
Meant to be seen daily on the scene.
Yet flavored in dismay,
With a bitterness each day.
And...
Typical and analytical are they,
To be living to be gimmicked.
And be living in such limits.
Those albatross draggers,
Hoping sadness they will pass.
And...
Typical and analytical are they,
To be living to be gimmicked.
And be living in such limits.

Breakdown
When the whirlwind of noise surrounds and get intense,
And when words cant hide their anger or intent.
I feel it in my bones and in my head, cant make sense of what is said.
Ready for the take down, headed for a breakdown.
Fear has me backed against these walls that I follow and pace.
Time moves in and out of phase of everything that I face.
I feel it in my bones they rattle and shake, cant find a trace of what it takes to stop this take down.
Cant stop this breakdown!
Welcome to my scene. a place thats in-between where squares fit the round.
Some affectionately call it ... my breakdown....
When I feel the pressure mounting and my hands begin to clutch, I reach my limit of pain and Ive had enough.
It feels good to pound on tables and chairs and feel the frenzy start to wear.
Breakdown this take down, gotta stop this breakdown.
Welcome to my scene. a place thats in-between where squares fit the round.
Itll never be, never be more than this. never.

Lazy Eye
The world spins round the secret lives
Of everyone that needs to hide
A cheap parade of endless lies
Filters through this lazy eye
And I dont believe in signs
No, I dont believe your lies
Caught in the breakdown
Caught in the breakdown
Caught in the breakdown
Caught in the breakdown
Lose yourself in no ones life
Trapped in nowheres empty light
Words like fists that tear you down
Crash before we hit the ground
And I dont believe in signs
No, I dont believe your lies
Caught in the breakdown
Caught in the breakdown
Caught in the breakdown
Caught in the breakdown
And I dont believe in signs
No, I dont believe your lies
No, I dont believe your lies
Caught in the breakdown

Breakdown
Breakdown, shakedown again
Breakdown, over you
Breakdown, way down again
Breakdown, over you, over you
Just when our love appeared to be
Growing strong
And just when you believed that
We both belonged
You catch me out a cheating and
Foolin round
You find that Im lyin
I feel like Im dyin
Here I come cryin again
Breakdown, shakedown again
Breakdown, over you
Breakdown, way down again
Breakdown, over you, over you
I put you through this whole
Affair before
I broke it up, you broke it up even more
Then I begged you to patch it all
Up again
Why did you listen to me
You should have let it all be
You shouldnt put all your trust me
Breakdown, shakedown again
Breakdown, over you
Breakdown, way down again
Breakdown, over you, over you
Breakdown, let down again
Breakdown, over you
Breakdown, straight down again
Breakdown, over you, over you

Yoga Is As Yoga Does
(words & music by nelson - burch)
Well I can see that you and yoga will never do
Yoga is as yoga does theres no in-between
Your either with it on the ball or youve blown the scene
I can see lookin at you, you just cant get settled
How can I even move, twistin like a pretzel
(yoga is, yoga does)
(theres no in-between)
(your either with it all the way) or youve blown the scene
(or youve blown the scene)
Come on come on, untwist my legs
Pull my arms a lot
How did I get so tied up
In this yoga knot
You tell me just how I can take this yoga serious
When all it ever gives to me is a pain in my posteriors
(yoga is, yoga does)
(theres no in-between)
(your either with it all the way) or youve blown the scene
(or youve blown the scene)
Stand upside down on your head, feet against the wall
A simple yoga exercise done by one and all
Now cross your eyes and hold your breath, look just like a clown
Yogas sure to catch you if you come falling down
(yoga is, yoga does)
(theres no in-between)
(your either with it all the way) or youve blown the scene
(or youve blown the scene)
(yoga is, yoga does)
(theres no in-between)
(your either with it all the way) or youve blown the scene
(or youve blown the scene)

We never find the time To be close again
There it goes again

Too much concern for money to burn
Too many things to do Now you don't need me

One by one They fail Now the leaves our lover
Cling to the ground

Teenage Nervous Breakdown
(copyright lowell george,1971 naked snake music)
Well, some contend that this rocknroll
Is bad for the body, bad for the soul
Bad for the heart, bad for the mind
Bad for the deaf and bad for the blind
It makes some men crazy and then they talk like fools
It makes some men crazy and then they start to drool
Unscrupulous operators could confuse
Could exploit and deceive
The conditional reflex theories
Change the probabilities, I said its a
Crass and raucous crackass place
With a pavlov on the human race
Its a terrible illness, a terrible case
And usually permanent when it takes place
Its a teenage nervous breakdown
Its a teenage nervous breakdown
Its a teenage nervous breakdown

The Scene
The Scene
(Graham Russell, Mark Towner Williams, Cliff Rehrig)
It's another lovely day
Are we still so far away
And how can I share it with you
It's not easy to believe
Are we both about to leave
Without ever saying, I do
I still love you
(Chorus)
Just make me part of the scene
Say we're together, always forever
And everything else in between
Just say we're part of the scene
I don't want to hear it, I just couldn't bear it
If things weren't as good as they seem
You can say I'm not the one
That a lot of faith has gone
The bridges were never quite crossed
Every grain of truth, we deny or prove
Is somewhere before it gets lost
And is found again
(Repeat Chorus)
What if these feelings are all in my head
Flying around me in a world of their own
What if there's nothing that needs to be said
(Repeat Chorus)
Just say we're part of the scene
Say we're together, always forever
And everything else in between
Just say we're part of the scene
Just say we're part of the scene
Just say we're part of the scene

Pretty For You
Swallow this scene, Im on fire
Arms waving, burning higher
Impressing you with what Ive done
But every minute Im losing one by one
Swallow this scene, sharpen knives
Pin cushion, pierce my sides
And every blade will catch the sun
And every minute Im losing one by one
Right now pretty for you
Am I finally pretty?
An ornament for everyone
But every minute Im losing one by one
Swallow this scene, there is laughter
For the ugly ever-after
And after they have poked their fun
And every lover Im losing one by one

First Encounter - Imamura Shohei
Imamura Shohei
that love of the orient
shines through his face
Imamura Shohei
our meet marked by
mutual love for the orient
The late Imamura Shohei won the Grand Prix Award for the Cannes Film Festival for the film Narayama Bushiko many years back. The film depicts the strange custom of a Japanese village where old folks were
sent to mountains to die to solve food problems. The most touching scene was that of an old woman waving to her reluctant son to go after he had brought her to the mountains. Imamura was in Malacca in the 80s to film his other film Zegen when we met up. He greeted me like a friend, an outpouring of his love for the orient. Zegen did not make it to the box office but his recognition as one of Japan best directors surivives.

Big Sleep
Sing low the baby 'cos we're here tonight
Together everyone is here in sight
The world and them, no they don't see our sky
But no it isn't right
Wash all the clothes when he is here in sight
I couldn't even be and try to hide
You've got my baby till the day I die
It's so cold outside
Here comes the big sleep scene in my eyes
INSTRUMENTAL
Here comes the big sleep scene in my eyes
I go away 'cos daddy wasn't feeling right
The clouds passing by me in the moonlight
No coming down now that I've got the time
Oh, I was born to fly
Here comes the big sleep scene in my eyes
Here comes the big sleep scene in my eyes
Here comes the big sleep scene in my eyes

The Mountain
Words and music by bob seger
The other side of the mountain
Is where I want to be
Its a far piece over the mountain
But I hope youll go with me
I grew up as a dreamer
I found that dreams arent free
Now I want you here with me
Ive lived so long near the mountain
Its almost part of me
I want to have it behind me
It blocks out all I can see
It looms up dark and ancient
Its shadow over me
I want it behind me
All that time, all that precious time
Its gone from you and me
Were givin up this scene
Were givin up this scene
Now some will say that were destined
Some will call it fate
Me I call it obsession
Its just like love and hate
Were prisoners of our passion
We all seem to find too late
I hope its not too late
Were givin up this scene
Ah babe were givin up this scene
Were gettin out
Were givin up this scene
You and me baby
Yeah were givin up this scene

Half An Ass
You're like an earthquake
Oh, you're seperated
You're like a whirlwind
You never say hello
But I like it when you're seperated
Keep it clean
Change the scene
Bad dream and you know where you are
It's only you and I
You look nervous
Well you should be
You're educated
You're always learning
But I like it
When you're educated
Keep it clean
Change the scene
Bad dream and you know where you are
Take a trip
Candy flip
Bad ship and you're sailing away
Hold my hand
Down the way cause I've been so high
Cause it's only you and I

However confused the scene of our life appears, however torn we may be who now do face that scene, it can be faced, and we can go on to be whole.

A movie and a stage show are two entirely different things. A picture, you can do anything you want. Change it, cut out a scene, put in a scene, take a scene out. They don't do that on stage.

What I find sometimes that is tricky is if actors are using too much of their own life in a picture, in a scene, they get locked into a particular way to play the scene, and it lacks an immediacy.

I Cant Stand Still
I know you love me
You know I love you too
You know I always will
No matter what you do
You say you havent got another lover
You say you only want to make the scene
Then you try to keep it under cover
What does that mean?
And baby, I cant stand still (while hes holding you)
I cant stand (while hes kissing you)
So we got a little problem, baby:
How to put together love and work
If I could figure out that one, darlin
I could save us from a world of hurt
I remember when we walked together
Makin love on a summer night
Guess we thought that it would last forever
We were all right
But baby, I cant stand still (while hes holding you)
I cant stand still (while hes touching you)
I can take it if you need some freedom
Understand it if you miss your friends
Dont you ever try to think of me some
You never tell me where youve been
You say you havent got another lover
You say you only want to make the scene
Then you try to keep it under cover
What does that mean?
And baby, I cant stand still (while hes holding you)
I cant stand still (while hes kissing you)
And baby, I cant stand still (while hes holding you)
I cant stand still (while hes touching you)
I cant stand still
