A collection of good books, with a soul to it in the shape of a librarian, becomes a vitalized power among the impulses by which the world goes on to improvement.

I'm of a fearsome mind to throw my arms around every living librarian who crosses my path, on behalf of the souls they never knew they saved.

There are distinct duties of a poet laureate. I plan a reading series at the Library of Congress and advise the librarian. The rest is how I want to promote poetry.
When you are writing, of course, you have to do all that writing and correcting for yourself. When I was a librarian it was expected that I would know about a wide range of books.

A book is a fragile creature, it suffers the wear of time, it fears rodents, the elements and clumsy hands. so the librarian protects the books not only against mankind but also against nature and devotes his life to this war with the forces of oblivion.

Being a librarian certainly helped me with my writing because it made me even more of a reader, and I was always an enthusiastic reader. Writing and reading seem to me to be different aspects of a single imaginative act.

Great Children
Great-nephews married to the larger librarian,
His volumes mattered to him, his children were him;
These kids had missing demises, responsibility occurred,
Inclined to be highly medical and full of flair.
The pressing question lacked content, only lurking presence
Mastered them, children required passes for their examination;
Betrayed and undignified, they were heirs of a realm
They proceeded to acquire and master for themselves.

Mr. Airing
I know someone,
Who will change your life.
He's sweet and nice,
Has a real big heart.
He cares for everyone.
He cares for everything.
He's the nicest man,
You'll ever meet.
Mr. Airing,
Thanks for everything.
You work really hard.
Funny and nice,
You make my day,
With your smile.
I've never met a more fun,
Librarian.
You read to us and help us.
You make everyone's day.
You're fun, happy, cheerful, and more.
I could say more,
But that would take all day.
So instead I'll say this:
Thanks for everything,
You've done for me.
And thank you for being the nicest,
Sweetest, Happiest Man I've ever met.
You're the best,
Mr. Airing.

Sunset (the One We Agreed Upon)
i like your sunset
flaming firmament
hues of fire, red hot iron and orange fruit combined
tasting like salt and sugar and vinegar to me
v-shaped seagulls like fighting planes
and the silence of the vast space
like i am in the library
the librarian on sick leave
and all the books are taken
did i forget the flavor?
(remember we agree on a poem with a color, taste, sound, smell
and whatever)
vanilla, and the sound, i already told you,
pssst, silence.

Floating on Nothingness 05/10/09
Fast walk to the library, face as red
as my T-shirt the librarian says, a
sleepy heroine, after she attended a
Spanish play (she is in Spain at the
moment) listened to music in the com-
pany of a strict disciplinarian planning
on teaching her culture and manners
She falls asleep and dreams of a hero
who accepts her as she is – I cannot
concentrate on life today, escaping
from being me and living my life, not
creating alternatives, simply stopping
the way I exist, leaving myself as an
empty shell, floating on nothingness

Japanese short forms 2
window shopping
a child twists to three
mannequins in dance pause
a poultry-chasing dog
given to a friend who
ends it in his pot
what a delight
those windswept
scarlet leaves!
time really has flown
since she threw
her clock at me
another world
a librarian reads
with feet on chair
mom to daughter
for interview: smile to them
like Mona Lisa
fengshui craze
wonder i'm shitting
in the right direction
calling someone
half his age dad
the prize: he marries his daughter
mom's happier times
her stilletto lying sideway
by the verandah
Asian coffeeshops
the toughtest to manage -
the toilets

Say Hello to Ava Braun
Middle age and broken
Your wardrobe is a person
A sweatshirt chain librarian
Fanatic for Maid Marian
Impassive is your stature
Marble feminine adaptor
Rotund in inertia humor
Suppressed inside your collar
Quick with urban wit
Submersed in scholastic dip
You can climb the seal of Wilde
Too slide down with old Virginia
You're a bob cut catherinette
But your love is child's play
A cynic clothes the surface
Beneath ostracized idealism
So much of you is ice
It's hard to see what's nice
When cruelties the lip
That scolds unsubtle bite
We tried hard to adore
But you let us go ignored
Farewell my mademoiselle
Say hello to a Ava Braun

L For a memory of X
L.
L is a lid
-L is lit
before light:
but a late librarian of lyrics
liable even life to lend
L is not an abrupt inflection of levity
but a lampoon of a bad shampoo advert.
L is a leaf
not a liver
L is left to shiver in leather wrapped lies
L is a left-handed lass
L is lust:
but the last lost in the dust.
Lest I forget
L is not „ Lupus in fabula'
L is a lazy lad
but replies with your lips
to long not opened letters:
L is a lotus but looks like a lily
L is a lavender's petal
or maybe its sepal.
L lightens listening Luciano Pavarotti
But L is not an opera
L is a lump of bread
a piece of land
rather the rhythm of a poem's leap.
