This homage has been rendered not to me - for the Polish soil is fertile and does not lack better writers than me - but to the Polish achievement, the Polish genius.

Somebody Has To
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
They're looking a little bit dull.
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
For the eagles and starlings and gulls
Have all been complaining they're tarnished and worn,
They say they want new ones we cannot afford.
So please get your rags
And your polishing jars,
Somebody has to go polish the stars.

I know many writers who first dictate passages, then polish what they have dictated. I speak, then I polish - occasionally I do windows.

The turd is proud that the river will carry it.
The more you stir a turd, the worse it stinks.
He who puts his nose in a turd does not know what he is smelling.
Jerry Bruckheimer creates comedy, he just doesn't realize because he's a turd.

A huckster who cannot pass off mouse-turd for pepper, has not learned his trade.
Frosty
A dog scampers away
Warm turd steaming on a cold pavement

My parents didn't really understand too much about sport. At that time, we were in a Polish community in the inner city of Chicago, and I was the youngest of a bunch of cousins. Polish families are real big, with cousins and aunts and uncles.

In the same period, Polish literature also underwent some significant changes. From social-political literature, which had a great tradition and strong motivation to be that way, Polish literature changed its focus to a psychological rather than a social one.

I Feel Horrible. She Doesn't
I feel horrible. She doesn't
love me and I wander around
like a sewing machine
that's just finished sewing
a turd to a garbage can lid.

There is a fundamental difference between the Polish experience of the state and the Russian experience. In the Polish experience, the state was always a foreign power. So, to hate the state was a patriotic act.

Polish
Someone once wrote
a comment on a poem
that I should polish it.
Polish a poem?
What they neglected to say
was what kind of wax I should use.
Unfortunately, I am not that kind of writer.
What you see is what you get.
I write a poem only once,
and what you see is raw.
Raw energy from my pen and mind.
Therefore, if you do not like it,
I am sorry; it is the only way
I know how to write.

Mulligan's Shanty
Things is just the same as ever
On the outer Never-Never,
And you look to find the stock of liquor scanty,
But we found things worse than ordin'ry,
And in fact a bit extraordin'ry
When myself and Bill the Pinker struck the shanty.
'Shanty,' says you. 'What shanty?'
Why, Mulligan's shanty.
I says 'Whisky'; Bill says 'Brandy';
But there wasn't either handy,
For the boss was out of liquor in that line.
'Well, I'll try a rum,' says Billy.
'Got no rum,' he answers, chilly,
'But I'll recommend a decent drop o' tine.'
'Tine?' says Bill; 'what tine?'
'Why, turpentine!'
'Blow me blue!' says Bill the Pinker,
'Can't yer give us a deep-sinker?
Ain't you got a cask o' beer behind the screen?'
Bill was getting pretty cranky,
But there wasn't any swanky.
Says the landlord, 'Why not have a drop o' sene?'
'Sene?' says Bill; 'what sene?'
'Why, kerosene!'
Well, we wouldn't spend a tanner,
But the boss's pleasant manner
All our cursing couldn't easily demolish.
Says he, 'Strike me perpendic'lar
But you beggars are partic'lar,
Why, the squatter in the parlor's drinking polish!'
'Polish?' says Bill, 'what polish?'
'Why, furniture-polish!'

If by politeness then is meant goodness, it is appreciated by me as I trust it always has been, but if it is to mean the string of ceremonies generally used for concealing ill nature, and which have been
found necessary to the existence of every society whose members are wanting in self respect and morality, I detest it more than ever. My prominent idea of a polite man is one who is nothing but polish. It is an unenviable reputation. If there was anything else in him the polish would never be noticed. He is a bad drawing finely worked up, and Gérôme says that every attempt at finish on a bad design serves only to make the work more contemptible.

The Hearts!
If the heart is made of gold,
We can sell it to get the profit.
If the heart is made of diamond,
We can cut and polish it.
If the heart is made of polyethene,
We can hold it as an inert umbrella.
But the heart is made of flesh and love,
Don't hurt, cut, polish, use and sell it.

I Have a Dog
I have a dog, I have a dog
that jumps about and leaps like a frog.
I have a dog, Yes, a pure black dog
who leaves behind brown turd logs.
I have a dog, a big black bitch
in hygiene and wits she's really not rich.
I have a dog, who doesn't know her name
who's known for being helplessly lame
To own her is a curse and a terrible shame
But she is my dog and in my care of course
so I must majestically attend her by sheer force.
