When you uproot vines as you plant vines, you'll never harvest the grapes.

Foxes in My Vineyard

One fair even, at the eve of last summer,
In the green and fertile country fields
Where grew luscious ears of 'eschol' grapes
I lingered by the Ploughman's hedge
Held in glee as plush tendrils cloaked tall stakes
And far afield, an endless pleach of virid vines.

I sought to see the blest, plush plums
Sired by those lustful ears of vine
''Those too, ought be plummy plush'', thought i
For to strum of the grapes there borne i craved
But lo, the vines though lush, the grapes...? All gone!

I scarce could take it true
For harvest yet looms a distant far!
But who had wrought this spiteful deed,
And where had all the green grapes gone?
But soon lunged forth a fox for the brushes green
Twas meet to set my curious soul yet agrief.

And so mused i, how like this vineyard green
A many a fellow, squalor within, splendour without!
Bade bare by ravenous foxes lot
For whilst we shy behind swaddling folds at the blush of dawn
A vixen creepeth in the meadow without!

Vines Collide

Looking out my castle window and what do I see,

bright green vines growing up a tree.

Vines are now climbing up my screens,

they form a web to protect me.

From the Troll that lurks outside,

He lives under a bridge is where he does resides.

Now Troll was forbidden to enter the castle once again,

He did not keep his word so he lost his princess friend,

Princess Melodie who does stay inside,

looking out her window where all vines collide,

Collide into each other so they will hide,

the princess’s magic castle where you will find.

Find all sorts of magic books that she has written,

Troll wants to be in one, for he is smitten.

Yes, troll you will know,

that soon it will be sold,

the Story of how the vines did grow,

to keep you out with your Big Stubby toe.

Root, uproot!

The time to plant and,
The time to uproot;
Root, uproot!
The effect,
The universal truth,
Of this activity;
But, i am free on Friday!
The easy one,
Bend, unbend!
The difficult one,
To, too!
With past memories;
But, there ie the time to pland and,
The time to uproot.

We found vines of a large size, and in some cases quite loaded with grapes; we also found an abundance of roses, which appeared to be like those of Castile.

A Glimpse Of Pan

I caught but a glimpse of him. Summer was here.
And I strayed from the town and its dust and heat.
And walked in a wood, while the noon was near,
Where the shadows were cool, and the atmosphere
Was misty with fragrances stirred by my feet
From surges of blossoms that billowed sheer
Of the grasses, green and sweet.

And I peered through a vista of leaning tree,
Tressed with long tangles of vines that swept
To the face of a river, that answered these
With vines in the wave like the vines in the breeze,
Till the yearning lips of the ripples crept
And kissed them, with quavering ecstasies,
And wistfully laughed and wept

And there, like a dream in swoon, I swear
I saw Pan lying--, his limbs in the dew
And the shade, and his face in the dazzle and glare
Of the glad sunshine; while everywhere,
Over across, and around him blew
Filmy dragon-flies hither and there,
And little white butterflies, two and two,
In eddies of odorous air.

Berrying

"May be true what I had heard,
Earth's a howling wilderness
Truculent with fraud and force,"
Said I, strolling through the pastures,
And along the riverside.
Caught among the blackberry vines,
Feeding on the Ethiops sweet,
Pleasant fancies overtook me:
I said, "What influence me preferred
Elect to dreams thus beautiful?"
The vines replied, "And didst thou deem
No wisdom to our berries went?"

Like Goads

The words of the wise are like goads,
And of words of delight that lights the heart!
But you went very deep into me like well driven nails,
For your vines tendered grapes for me to be around you.

By night on my bed i sought out for him who i love,
But i couldn't find you among the lilies;
And in my sweet dreams i held your arms,
And today you are my beloved and i am yours.

Passion

Oh! this passion I feel for thee
I do believe it's taken me
back to days of younger times
where love is ripe like grapes on vines,
bursting with sweetness in the sun,
waiting to be picked one by one.

Oh! this passion, it does not wane.
Sometimes it drives me quite insane.
For should it not quiet down with age?
Should I not be content to let it rage?
No! I say. It's a life all its own.
It is all consuming from whence it's grown.
Oh! ! this passion.

A String of Simile

Words bind me, wrapping around me like vines
And like vines they grow, and constrict, like a boa
And like a boa they hiss in my ear, the most wonderful things.

Words chain me, tethering my wrists and ankles like iron
And like iron they do not rot or wither, like Eternity,
And like Eternity, I do not know when they will end.

Words shackle me, holding me down like paralysis,
And like paralysis, they have no immediate cure - like Love,
And like Love, within them I am free and beautiful and alive.

Ch 02 The Morals Of Dervishes Story 49

A sage having been asked whether liberality or bravery is better replied: ‘He who possesses liberality needs no bravery.’

It is written on the tomb of Behram Gur:
‘A liberal hand is better than a strong arm.’
Hatim Tai has passed away but for ever
His high name will remain celebrated for beneficence.
Set aside the zekat from thy property because the exuberant vines
When pruned by the vintner will yield more grapes.

The Grove

Blueberries and vines over the fence
like wayward lines passing over the rigids and boundaries
and bleeding;
it's skin holds the blood of the divine.
And beyond it,
the beige and tan fields swooping up and down,
down in the valley floor,
the dry brittle grain,
exposed to the sun.
'One begins to wonder in times of greater discomfort.'
The valley opens and closes for miles,
only imagining it's touch;
the distant ridge line
holds breathlessly still.
It's autumn leaves beginning,
to fall against the curtain
past the crimson red vines,
meandering through beside
The setting sun.

You Have Raised These Weeds

I don't make this statement
To have you agree with me...
I make this comment,
Because this is what I see.

You can't raise children to be men and women!
The children of today have been spoiled
By what has been given!
They are nurtured like a plant or a pet
Around the house.
They are fed much nonsense and reflect,
What we have put out!
If it's garbage in our minds and garbage that we eat...
What do you expect to find on the streets?
Pansies and Roses?
Lilacs and Hibiscus?
Pruned trees and bushes...
And manicured lawns we sweat to treat?
If you have not encouraged your 'crops' to grow,
How do you expect your harvest to 'glow'?
You have raised these 'weeds'...
And that's the point I want to make!
You ignored advice from the 'gardener',
And that has been YOUR mistake!
Those choking 'vines' that grew from your home
That have driven you to heartbreak...
Have been your responsibility,
And it now shows upon your face!
And now you want them to leave you alone?
These 'creatures' are yours...
Reflecting what you have condoned!

Shallow Thoughts...

along the shores
where the salty vines have covered our tracks
the coconuts are growing tall
and being so nearly planted
their leaves reach for each other

in a little distance
the heaps of dry leaves and husks
make a mountain
and now covered by the vines
and so concealed

beyond this place is a grass-less space
it is where most of the strangers stay
the mass of people gather
and bask under the sun

the gates here are closed more often
there are no kids
neither are there old people who take
their leisure here

this is my own place
so private and so deserted
i would like to call it another solitude
but the coconut trees without nuts
on this rainy December
signify otherwise

it is lonely, the hut speaks.

Harvest For The World

All babies together
Evry one a seed
Half of us are satisfied
The other half of us in need
Loves bountiful in us
Tarnished by our greed
Oh, when will there be a harvest.. for the world?
(harvest for the world)
A nations planted
So concerned with gain
As the seasons come and go, we wont wait in vain
Far too many, feelin the strain
(chorus)
(a harvest.. a harvest)
(a harvest.. a harvest)
(a harvest.. a harvest)
(a harvest.. a harvest)
(a harvest for the world)
Dress me up for battle
When all I want is peace
Those of us who pay the price
Come home with the least
And nation after nation, tuning into beasts
(chorus)
When will there be.. a harvest
When will there be.. a harvest
When will there be.. a harvest
When will there be.. a harvest
When will there be.. a harvest
When will there be.. a harvest
When will there be.. a harvest..
