Get Your Rocks Off

by Bob Dylan
You know, there's two ol' maids layin' in the bed,
One picked herself up an' the other one, she said:
"Get your rocks off!
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off-a me! (Get 'em off!)"
Well, you know, there late one night up on Blueberry Hill,
One man turned to the other man and said, with a blood-curdlin' chill, he said:
"Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off-a me! (Get 'em off!)"
Well, you know, we was layin' down around Mink Muscle Creek,
One man said to the other man, he began to speak, he said:
"Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off-a me! (Get 'em off!)"
Well, you know, we was cruisin' down the highway in a Greyhound bus.
All kinds-a children in the side road, they was hollerin' at us, sayin':
"Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off! (Get 'em off!)
Get your rocks off-a me!

Abiyah

Lay my bones next to his bones and,
Let the love of the muse arise!
Lay my bones next to her bones and,
Let the mind of peace be shared!
For i am Abiyah from the land of love and,
I am here to love you.

Immigration

Now Jordan's land of promise is the burden of my song.
Perhaps you've heard him lecture, and blow about it strong;
To hear him talk you'd think it was a heaven upon earth,
But listen and I'll tell you now the plain unvarnished truth.

Here mutton, beef, and damper are all you'll get to eat,
From Monday morn till Sunday night, all through the blessed week.
And should the flour bag run short, then mutton, beef, and tea
Will be your lot, and whether or not, 'twill have to do, you'll see.

Here snakes and all vile reptiles crawl around you as you walk,
But these you never hear about in Mr. Jordan's talk;
Mosquitoes, too, and sandflies, they will tease you all the night,
And until you get quite colonised you'll be a pretty sight.
Here are boundless plains where it seldom rains, and you'll maybe die of thirst;
But should you so dispose your bones, you'll scarcely be the first,
For there's many a strong and stalwart man come out to make his pile,
Who never leaves the fatal shore of this thrice accursed isle.

To sum it up in few short words, the place is only fit
For those who were sent out here, for from this they cannot flit.
But any other men who come a living here to try,
Will vegetate a little while and then lie down and die.

Where Are The Lionheart

Destiny took me in her arms and told me:
"You're a little lost on the fall.
You fall for all the men
You shouldn't fall for all at all."
Ooh, I know she knows, but still I go on,
Well, I'm a fool.
Climbing up the ladders
To slide down the adders
On the rocks,
On the rocks,
On the rocks,
On the rocks...
Joan of Arc walks into my mirror,
A burning sword.
I'd like to cry.
I look into her eyes.
I see she's seen the long days and night.
"Ooh," she says,
"The games are still the same, I see,
But they've changed the names now.
Are all Lionhearts put in parks, apart?"
Lionhearts in the asylums,
Lionhearts tossed at sea,
Lionhearts who've lived their lives, like Arthur.
Lionhearts in cathedrals,
Lionhearts at mournings,
Lionhearts in every seed
But they're sown
On the rocks,
On the rocks,
On the rocks,
On the rocks...
Somebody I couldn't see
Tied me up and put me away,
Here on the rocks,
Here on the rocks,
Here on the rocks...

The Rocks

I was a timid little antelope;
My home was in the rocks, the lonely rocks.

I saw the hunters scouring on the plain;
I lived among the rocks, the lonely rocks.

I was a-thirsty in the summer-heat;
I ventured to the tents beneath the rocks.

Zuleikah brought me water from the well;
Since then I have been faithless to the rocks.

I saw her face reflected in the well;
Her camels since have marched into the rocks.

I look to see her image in the well;
I only see my eyes, my own sad eyes.
My mother is alone among the rocks.

The Shrine

Three rocks, rocks scorched, aged
In the undergrowth, they lie
Oblivious of time
Passed, histories made,
Unaware of ceremonies, done,
To be done
Here, between these rocks
The ashes, testimony, to sacrificial
Cattle and birds
Atop this mountain they,
Yes, they had come, and prayed,
And cleansed,
Their sons, who conquered
The, below picturesque land
That kisses Lake Victoria,
Yes,
This is the shrine
That the high priest would pray,
And harvest would be, and diseases would impede!
Here
In its mystic form I sit, cross my legs
Birds chirp, slithering are Lizards
Pssss! Thought I heard a serpent hiss
No!
Nothing, just what they said,
Here, green grass
Surrounding, grotesque rocks
Down a beautiful land spreads,
I descend!

Shakespeares Sister

Young bones groan
And the rocks below say :
Throw your skinny body down, son !
But Im going to meet the one I love
So please dont stand in my way
Because Im going to meet the one I love
No, mamma, let me go !
Young bones groan
And the rocks below say :
Throw your white body down !
But Im going to meet the one I love
At last ! at last ! at last !
Im going to meet the one I love
La-de-da, la-de-da
No, mamma, let me go !
No ...
I thought that if you had
An acoustic guitar
Then it meant that you were
A protest singer
Oh, I can smile about it now
But at the time it was terrible
No, mamma, let me go
No ...

To The Land

To the land of bribes,
To the land of telephones,
To the land of corruptions,
To the land of trains,
To the land of shops,
To the land of thieves,
To the land of connections,
To the land of drugs,
To the land of trucks,
To the land of cats,
To the land of Banks,
To the land of dogs, To the land of footballers,
To the land of dragons,
To the land of hope,
To the land of ice-cream,
To the land of potatoes,
To the land of chocolates,
To the land of tomatoes,
To the land of apples,
To the land of coffee,
To the land of lights,
To the land of ships,
To the land of birds,
To the land of tigers,
To the land of carpets,
To the land of pillows,
To the land of lions,
TO the land of toys,
To the land of horses,
To the land of beds,
To the land of roses,
To the land of love,
To the land of passion,
To the land of romance;
I never new women do snore until i married one.

Skeletons In The Closet

Woah-oh, woah-oh
Skeletons in my closet
Woah-oh, woah-oh yeah
Skeletons in my closet
Skeletons in my closet
Skeletons in my shoes
Skeletons I can only see
I said woah-oh, woah-oh
I got skeletons in my closet
I said woah-oh, woah-oh yeah
Skeletons in my closet
Skeletons I can lose
Skeletons in my basement
Loitering on my streets
Wearing my best pajamas
Sandwiched between my sheets
I said woah-oh, woah-oh yeah
Skeletons in my closet
I said woah-oh, woah-oh yeah
Skeletons in my closet
Ooh, I see bones
I see bones, icy bones
Ooh, I see bones
Say say bones - say boys don't you see them bones?
Rattle them bones at midnight
Shaking my bed, no sleep
I find fingers in my coat pocket
Skeletons from the deep
I said woah-oh, woah-oh
I got skeletons in my closet
I said woah-oh, woah woah-oh
I got skeletons in my closet
Ooh, I see bones
I see bones, s-see bones
Ooh, I see bones
I see bones
Say boys don't you see them bones?
No?
Heart bones, leg bones, ankle bones, arm bones,
finger bones, dogie bones, head bones
Skeletons in my closet
They even know when I'm in my closet
It's my.. my closet
Not your closet
My closet
You can have it though
Alice we want you
Alice
Alice
A-Alice
What?
Whaddya want

Fake Doctors And Fake Lovers

Fake doctors and fake lovers,
Waa it more to expose your degrees of your love? !
For your cultures are now seen around us,
And like the Red Devils in the land of your muse.

Blues, use, bus, be, sub, sue, us;
Of the fake doctors and the fake lovers!
And like the bones scattered at the mouths of the graves,
But among the rocks i will sit and watch your steps.

A Sun So Fair

The rocks stored up sun
For so long, and so long;
In their rocky hearts
Since time’s begun.

Tumbled and polished;
So rare, so rare-
They could tell a tale
From when we weren't there.

I'm saving these rocks
Born before earth,
Pieces of mantle
That gave me birth.

There's sun in my bones,
And sun in my hair-
Rock crystals- and beauty-
From a sun, so fair

Rocks In My Bed

My heart is heavy as lead
Because the blues has done spread
Rocks in my bed
Of all the people I see
Why do they pick on poor me
And put rocks in my bed
All night long I weep
So how can I sleep
With rocks in my bed
Theres only two kinds of people
I cant understand
Theres only two kinds of people
I cant understand
Thats a deceitful woman
And a hard faced man
She took my man away
And aint goin bring him back
She took my man away
And aint goin bring him back
Shes lower than a snake down in a wagon track
(bridge)
I got rocks in my bed
I got rocks in my bed
Rocks in my bed
I got rocks in my bed
Under-loved, over-fed
My mans gone, so instead
I got rocks in my bed
Under-loved, over-fed
My mans gone, so instead
I got rocks in my bed

Desert Ditty

I’m walkin’ through the desert
Sand gets in your toes
Scorpions come bite your feet
And dust gets up your nose

But I’m walkin’ with my baby
We’re travellin’ hand in hand
We’ll make this trip together
And reach the Promised Land

I’m climbin’ up the mountain
Stumblin’ on the rocks,
Little critters bite your flesh
Runnin’ like a fox

But I’m walkin’ with my baby
We’re travellin’ hand in hand
We’ll make this trip together
And reach the Promised Land

I’m walkin’ in the wadi
Dry as prophet bones
Sudden clap of thunder –
Flood sweeps sodden stones

But I’m walkin’ with my baby
We’re travellin’ hand in hand
We’ll make this trip together
And reach the Promised Land

I’m walkin’ through the nighttime
Countin’ on the star
Clouds come coverin’ heaven
Don’t know where we are

But I’m walkin’ with my baby
We’re travellin’ hand in hand
We’ll make this trip together
And reach the Promised Land

We’ll reach the land together
Oh baby you an’ me
We’ll see it from the Golden Heights
From desert to the sea

I’m walkin’ with my baby
We’re travellin’ hand in hand
We’ll make this trip together
And reach the Promised Land!

A Dry and Thirsty Land

Parched and barren,
A dry and thirsty land
Filled with the haze of death
The forgotten bones of man

The tongue swells in the mouth
The sweat pours out his brow
Weary traveller falling down
Weary traveller dying now

The white bleached bones
The bones of those before
Lie about him spinning round
Bleached bones on the desert floor

His brown shrivelled skin
Turns black under the sun
He is lost and doomed
What is done is done

Thou are cruel, Dry thirsty land,
Slowly killing those who flee
Drying them from the inside
A miserable gutted tragedy

Weary traveller, there is rest
There is rest for you head
There is a place where you can rest
Where you can drink and be fed

Don’t push on any longer
For the dry thirsty land
Will eventually be stronger
Than thy inner man

Come to the one oasis
That inhabits this world
Find the well of water
From which life doth unfurl

Come thou weary and faint
Sojourners in a dry weary place
Come thou empty and dead
Come with all due haste

Come to the well
Strength and energy it gives
Come to the well
If you want to live

Come if you feel tired
Come if you need a refresh
Come if you need life
Come if you want energy afresh

A well for all who wish
A dry and thirsty land
Come thou faint
Come thou weary man

Who is the cause?

Mountains to valleys and valleys to mountains,
Once ocean now land, once land now ocean,
Rocks reduced to soil, soil compacted into rocks,
man goes to dust and dust to man,
All in cycles, who makes? At whose will?
Then why am I smeared with calumny or harmony
While none of my deeds are independent?
Arrow, Bow, Hunter, his hunger, his birth
Or its birth, which is the cause for the one hunted?

The Rocks And The Cliff In Front Of Me

the rocks in front of me
are layered like sheets of paper works
a load i must suppose for
centuries unread
the grasses of the desert
have come to cover
a part of the history of their
shale
i am the shadow at noonday
asking
what these rocks can do for me?
or shall i say
rocks, rocks, boulders of rocks
tell me the heaviness of your
burden
tell the secrets of your
strengths
the echoes keep on rebounding
sounding like the
laughter of a madman
asking the questions and
figuring out the answers
from the same sound
