Candles
The days of the future stand in front of us
Like a line of candles all alight----
Golden and warm and lively little candles.
The days that are past are left behind,
A mournful row of candles that are out;
The nearer ones are still smoking,
Candles cold, and melted, candles bent.,
I don’t want to see them; their shapes hurt me,
It hurts me to remember the light of them at first.
I look before me at my lighted candles,
I don’t want to turn around and see with horror
How quickly the dark line is lengthening,
How quickly the candles multiply that have been put out.

Promises
Remember how it used to be,
Remember how you promised me,
That life would always be good,
You forget the fact you lied to me,
You locked my heart and threw the key,
I'm so misunderstood,
What to say when all the words have gone,
Promises, promises,
What to do when all our thoughts have flown,
Promises, promises,
Remember how I gave my heart,
And all at once we fell apart,
Was I supposed to forgive you,
You forgot the fact you said to me,
That we were for eternity,
You're so easy to see through,
What to say when all the words have gone,
Promises, promises,
What to do when all our thoughts have flown,
Promises, promises,
Remember that I'm over you,
And know that I will make it through,
Hope you never forget it,
The promises you made to me,
Were really lies and fantasy,
Hope you come to regret it,
What to say when all the tears have dried,
Promises, promises,
What to think when all our love has died,
Promises, promises,
The promises we used to keep have gone,
And with them all the words,
That kept us both from seeing what was wrong,
The rest is silent, What to say when all the words have gone,
Promises, promises,
What to do when all our thoughts have flown,
Promises, promises,
What to say when all the tears have dried,
Promises, promises,
What to think when all our love has died,
Promises, promises.

There Are More Stars Than Poems
There are more stars than poems-
More vast silent worlds
Than small verbal ones-
Masses and masses of mass and fire
Masses and masses of darkness and death-
And against this millions and billions of words and more little words -
More stars than poems
And far too many of both
For human comprehension

Candles
i dreamt of candles
shimmering, dainty, romantic
....candles
all aglow lighting my path
melting away longingly
velvet ivory wax
licking the soft soles of my feet
...u came home to me
with diamonds and roses.
i dreamt of candles
ablaze, threating, ominous
....candles
all licking hungrily at my clothes
wanting to consume me
make me one with them
a charred cinder
.....u told me of her
with acerbic finality
i dreamt of candles
silent, suffering, perservering
....candles
all burning no longer a pretty yellow
just icy blue
plotting with precision
to set the stage on fire
....u called me repentent
i answered with laughter.
....'what goes around comes around'...

Promises Made
(mark paul/john duarte)
You said goodbye
And broke this heart inside of me
Teardrops fell
Like hours to eternity
The room was silent
As some forgotten melody
Your words of steel
Still echo in my memory
Promises made, promises broken
Promises made, promises broken
I thought we had a chance
To really make it last
Now the future looks to me
Like some unwelcome guest
Ill be alright
As soon as I get over you
But this time it wont be
Such an easy thing to do
Promises made are
Promises broken
Caught up in the sorrow
Tangled in dreams
In the lonely hours
Of silent screams
In the heart of the darkness
I break down
I feel the spirit of you
All around
Promises made are
Promises broken
Promises made are
Promises broken

Promises Promises Promises
promises promises promises
sounding like
the biblical rameses rameses
rameses
so noble, and so
adorable
but like promises promises and
more promises
they are made more
to be broken
sounds
like a broken hymen

I Think That...(thoughts on words and promises)
Words… are so easy to say
Promises, ne’er so hard to keep
Words… easily written
Promises, not to be shallow or deep
Words…so effortlessly uttered
Promises, should never be broken
Words…so unthinkingly muttered
Promises, not given only in token
Words…so empty… so easy to say
Promises… never just idle notions
Words should be true in every way…and
Promises be pledges of devotions

Your Hero
The heroes of the masses they live for their renown
And the masses create their heroes and then drag their heroes down
And the masses are unpredictable they change from day to day
And some of their heroes like the Autumn flowers are quick to fade away.
Yet there are millions of unsung heroes and they live on every street
And every day a hero I feel privileged to meet
True heroes male and female yet by the masses unsung
The World is full of heroes of heroes old and young.
Some heroes of the masses are arrogant and proud
And their egos over-swollen from the adulation of the crowd
But give me the unsung heroes who go their own quiet way
Who out of the kindness of their hearts perform one good deed every day.
Many heroes of the masses are not heroes to me
Though every day I walk the street some true hero I do see
Your hero is chauffeur driven and drinks the most expensive wine
And you can have your hero but your hero isn't mine.

Promises
Promises are comfort to a fool.
And I'm that fool.
In our many years of existence we have all had the leading role of being that fool.
Onto promises.......
I have numerous Oscar's for I know I play that role oh so well.
I wondered why do I fall victim to this.
The purpose of a promise was never to break it
BUT.....
If it is broken it becomes a lie.
I wondered why do I fall victim to promises.
It is maybe because I'm a Promise Keeper.
I am an addict for promises.
I could never stay away from it.
Never stop believe in it.
A promise is equivalent to 'say what you mean' and 'mean what you say'.
So when a promise is made to me it is align with the saying,
'It's like taking candy from a baby'.
Not naive for I know never to believe in Promises.
Optimistic, maybe.
I always believe in promises.
WHY? ?
Because when I make them I do my best to keep them no matter the circumstances.
Promises are my Opium.
But I must say most of the promises made to me were kept.
But as for now, , , I'm getting the bad side effects.

Darkness Is Falling
Verse 1:
When darkness is falling and shadows grow long
Its time for the children to sing this old song
It tells of the coming of wonders untold
Forgotten is winter, its fury and cold,
Hi-ho, hi-ho, well soon see the candles glow
Hi-ho, hi-ho, well soon see the candles glow
Repeat verse 1
When darkness is falling and stars fill the sleigh
The waiting is over and we all know why
Its time for celebrating and having a feast
Because of the tidings that come from the east
Hi-ho, hi-ho, well soon see the candles glow
Hi-ho, hi-ho, well soon see the candles glow

Intimated
do not speak about
an intimidation for such a
word is not poetic,
not romantic, not lovely,
speaks more of the anarchy
and the oppression of the
masses, a cousin of fear,
child of insecurity,
speak to me in whispers
inside a room, scented with
lotus candles, incense and
prayer,
let us get a little of intimation
friends, and/or even
hard core lovers.

A Cook’s Battle
The ship -cook was tired it had been a long day, the ship was old
full of cockroaches, one had found its way in his bread dough and
when the captain cut a slice of bread it was there, a brown raisin;
the old man had been very angry. The cook’s trouble was roaches
they were everywhere. He had asked to have the galley fumigated
when the ship was in dry dock, but no it was far too expensive.
Every week he boiled a big pan of water and squirted into corners,
it helped a bit and he had buckets full, but soon they were back
encroaching his galley. Then there were mites in the flour which
he had to sift before baking bread, not his fault yet he had to take
the flack. He often worked till late evening to keep the galley clean
he had even painted it so on the surface it looked bright and nice.
He was losing the battle against insects he often felt he was losing
his mind as well, they appeared in his dreams strangulating him.
Time was hard not easy to get a job, still when his ship docked in
Bombay he was off and the crew could get someone else to insult.

The Field Of Mortality
The Field of Mortality
On a field, not far from here, I see millions of lit candles in long rows,
but only at night; in daylight it is a potato patch. A man, you may call
him god if you like, walks among the candles every so often he stops
and with his thumb and index finger snuffs out light; the skin on his
fingers are corned from this arduous work. Behind him new candles
spring up, sometimes he turns and go back waste some of them too.
He is heading for the part where the candles have been burned out,
only the wick flickers. He uses he thumb to bump them off; a spiral of
grey smoke in still air. He is old as time, sometimes he misses candles
that keep on burning, although they have no wick. As dawn begins,
behind the easterly mountain, the field of mortality turns into a potato
patch again, where an old man is harvesting spuds.

Hard Promises To Keep
(kimmie rhodes)
Im trying to believe in forever
Im trying to believe in the little jewel box life we lead
Babe, I get so close sometimes
But all I really know is
I believe that weve been making hard promises to keep
You want me to believe in forever
Do you know how tight Im holding
Just to keep my grip on yesterday?
Im trying hard to see the pretty pictures that you paint for me
Do you know how tight Im holding to hard promises to keep
Promises are like little diamonds
Promises are like little hearts
We meant to give away
I thought youd want them back someday
Ive kept them for you anyway
But I know when Ive been given hard promises to keep
Promises are like little diamonds
Promises are like little hearts
We meant to give away
I thought youd want them back someday
Ive kept them for you anyway
But I know when Ive been given hard promises to keep
And I know that Ive been given hard promises to keep

Thank You For The Promises
Thank you for the promises we make
I know I cant complain
I think I did all right
No failures are in sight
Only now and then
Id like to reminisce
Do you remember when
Even if were angels we cant ask
To wander through the past
The future is our goal
The night is black as coal
If I could pay the price
Id like to love you once
Id love to love you twice
Thanks
We cannot say enough
The road is sometimes rough
But we can get along
The going will get tough
But we wont be afraid
Of the promises we made
Thank you for the promises you keep
When I am fast asleep
To be where we belong
Is all that I can ask
We can do it in the shade
As long as I have you
And the promises we made
Thank you for the promises we break
If you made a clean mistake
Well thats what loves about
No need to stand and shout
The truth is in your eyes
The answer lies within
No need to criticize
Thanks
For the promises at hand
The abuse that we must stand
Is often heaven sent
They may not pay the rent
You never can be sure
When promises get bent
Thank you for the promises that live
This is all that I can give
Forever in my mind
To leave the past behind
And seal it with a kiss
Forever in my soul
I will remember this

The man who promises everything is sure to fulfil nothing, and everyone who promises too much is in danger of using evil means in order to carry out his promises, and is already on the road to perdition.
There Is No Substitute For Presence
the promises of promises
are nothing but promises
it is absence looking for
the perfection of presence
when you leave i shall not
keep on remembering you
i shall close the door and
ring the phone for by then
she will come and take care
of what you have not done.
