The rabbi is just the man who knows the torah - he is not the torah itself.

Red Lobster Tonight
Shrimp on the Kosher Bar-b-que
The thought of kosher water went out the door,
When a Rabbi from New York said 'No More'.
Apparently that one shrimp, a small shrimp,
a shrimp could possibly be
was in the water?
After the water was treated at the water facility.
It was uproar that swelled upon the CHASSIDIC community,
For if they drank from water that shrimp touched
they've violated
The Rules of the Torah,
Oy Vay!
They must atone forever and a day.
But need not fret For the Lord has given mankind,
All that is dear,
For example, the endless shrimp at Red Lobster.

Return me my lord, mend my wounds,

The torah can be interpreted in 49 different ways. god told moses, 'decide according to the majority.'
The observant Jew has his own sense of values. Torah Judaism is his blueprint for this life, his target for existence.

Torah
The Book of the Torah is beside you!
But, you've left it and gone out for your lovers;
And now, your nakedness had been exposed to all! !
Noted by us in this village as well,
However, when will you change and learn for the better?

I Am A Man Overwhelmed By My Own Feeling
I am a man overwhelmed by my own feeling
Wherever I walk I see people I knew
On Yanovsky St. I think of Yosef ben-David
Who so much wanted to live
And who appreciated my caring for him-
Always in Shul on Shabbat near Mincha time
I think of my good friend Moshe Bobrovsky
He was the most optimistic person I have known
He always had time for the degree he was going to get
He will have to get it now in the world to come-
The Holy Teacher David Herzberg always appears to me
When I am at the Kotel
We used to meet there
The highest Torah he would say is the conversation of friends-
Rabbi Pearl with his shulmanship
In French Hill at Ramot Tzion so so many -
Ruth Barness who was so kind to me
In my most lonely years.
I am an old man now
And have had many good friends in my life
I miss many of them
I see my parents long gone
Time and again
It is too much
And I don't want to live in grief
But wherever I walk I see them
And I miss them-
I am a man overwhelmed by my own feeling
And often that feeling is the grief and the missing
Of those I knew in this world
No longer here-

We know that the Jews were prohibited from investigating the future. The Torah and the prayers instruct them in remembrance, however. This stripped the future of its magic, to which all those succumb who turn to the soothsayers for enlightenment. This did not imply, however, that for the Jews the future turned into homogeneous empty time. For every second of time was the strait gate through which the Messiah might enter.

It Is as Much a Sin to Not Recognize One's Own Strengths
The Torah teacher taught on Tisha B’Av
‘It is as much a sin to not recognize one’s own strengths
As it is to not attempt to correct one’s weaknesses
The spies refused to see the strengths of the people and the land of Israel
They reported on weaknesses and fears only’
Am I the spy of myself?
And do I do nothing but lament what I am not?
Why don’t I recognize
What I have done and what I can do?
I can after all write another small poem
Even if it means using the wisdom given on our day
Of greatest national tragedy
For my own small good.

I Cried Seeing My Old Friend Out Of His Mind
I cried seeing my old friend out of his mind
At first we talked in our old ordinary way
But somewhere along the way
He began to see and say strange things
And make impossible accusations-
I cried within myself
And went on talking as if nothing was really wrong
He had had such a good mind my friend
He had been interested in and known so much
And he still does now
Though more of his time is in an imaginary world
Of fears and recriminations-
Oh God please somehow miraculously restore him
There must be a medicine somewhere
He was so faithful to You and to Torah in his life
Such a devoted and enterprising man
God please bring him back to himself
And help his family also.

Pretty Fly For A Rabbi
Veren zol fun dir a blintsa
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
And all the goyim say Im pretty fly for a rabbi
Meccha leccha hi, meccha hiney hiney ho
Our temples had a fair share of rabbis in the past
But most of em were nudniks and none of em would last
But our new guys real kosher, I tyhink hell do the trick
I tell ya, hes to dies for - he really knows his shtick
So hows by you? have you seen this jew?
Reads the torah, does his own accounting too
Workin like a dog at the synagogue
Hes there all day, hes there all day
Just say vay iz mir! and hell kick into gear
Hell bring you lots of cheer and maybe bagels with some shmeer
Just grab your yarmulka and
Hey! hey! do that hebrew thing!
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
And all the goyim say Im pretty fly (for a rabbi)
He shops at discount stores, not just any will sufice
He has to find a bargain cause he wont pay retail price
He never acts meshugga and hes hardly a schlemiel
But if you wanna haggle, oy, hell make you such a deal!
People used to scoff, now they say mazel tov!
Hes such a macher cause he worked his tuchis off
Yeah, he keeps his cool and teaches shul
Whats not to like? whats not to like?
On high holy days, you know he prays and prays
And he never eats pastrami on white breath with mayonnaise
Put on your yarmulka and
Hey! hey! do that hebrew thing!
When hes doing a bar mitzvah, now that you shouldnt miss
Hell always shlep on down for a wedding or a briss
They say hes got a lot of chutzpah, hes really quitehhhhhip
The parents pay the moyl and he gets to keep the tip
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
(how ya doin bernie? ) oy vey, oy vey
Meccha leccha hi, meccha meccha cholly ho
Hes doin well, I gotta kvell
The yentas love him, even shicksas think hes swell
Show up at his home, he says shalom
And have some cake - you want some cake?
Yah, he calls the shots, we really love him lots
Oy gevalt, Im so ferklempt that I could plotz
So grab your yarmulka
The one you got for chanukah
Lets put on our yarmulkas and
Hey! hey! do that hebrew thing!

Against the Weave
The Crack of Dawn
Rent the sky’s heavy grey winter greatcoat
From seam to boring seam,
Tore it the hard way:
Against the weave,
For all the world as if
God were revisiting His moment
Of Temple-curtain-tearing violence.
Now, as then,
Few people pondered
The sight or its significance
As day drilled down,
Linear and bright,
Upon the quick and the dead alike.
The Heavens opened
And for once it wasn’t rain
But light, streaming like stair-rods,
Breaking all the Torah
Of simile and metaphor.

Ode To Meaning
Dire one and desired one,
Savior, sentencer--
In an old allegory you would carry
A chained alphabet of tokens:
Ankh Badge Cross.
Dragon,
Engraved figure guarding a hallowed intaglio,
Jasper kinema of legendary Mind,
Naked omphalos pierced
By quills of rhyme or sense, torah-like: unborn
Vein of will, xenophile
Yearning out of Zero.
Untrusting I court you. Wavering
I seek your face, I read
That Crusoe's knife
Reeked of you, that to defile you
The soldier makes the rabbi spit on the torah.
"I'll drown my book" says Shakespeare.
Drowned walker, revenant.
After my mother fell on her head, she became
More than ever your sworn enemy. She spoke
Sometimes like a poet or critic of forty years later.
Or she spoke of the world as Thersites spoke of the heroes,
"I think they have swallowed one another. I
Would laugh at that miracle."
You also in the laughter, warrior angel:
Your helmet the zodiac, rocket-plumed
Your spear the beggar's finger pointing to the mouth
Your heel planted on the serpent Formulation
Your face a vapor, the wreath of cigarette smoke crowning
Bogart as he winces through it.
You not in the words, not even
Between the words, but a torsion,
A cleavage, a stirring.
You stirring even in the arctic ice,
Even at the dark ocean floor, even
In the cellular flesh of a stone.
Gas. Gossamer. My poker friends
Question your presence
In a poem by me, passing the magazine
One to another.
Not the stone and not the words, you
Like a veil over Arthur's headstone,
The passage from Proverbs he chose
While he was too ill to teach
And still well enough to read, I was
Beside the master craftsman
Delighting him day after day, ever
At play in his presence--you
A soothing veil of distraction playing over
Dying Arthur playing in the hospital,
Thumbing the Bible, fuzzy from medication,
Ever courting your presence,
And you the prognosis,
You in the cough.
Gesturer, when is your spur, your cloud?
You in the airport rituals of greeting and parting.
Indicter, who is your claimant?
Bell at the gate. Spiderweb iron bridge.
Cloak, video, aroma, rue, what is your
Elected silence, where was your seed?
What is Imagination
But your lost child born to give birth to you?
Dire one. Desired one.
Savior, sentencer--
Absence,
Or presence ever at play:
Let those scorn you who never
Starved in your dearth. If I
Dare to disparage
Your harp of shadows I taste
Wormwood and motor oil, I pour
Ashes on my head. You are the wound. You
Be the medicine.
