One of the secrets of life is to make stepping stones out of stumbling blocks.
Im Stepping Out
Woke up this morning blues around my head
No need to ask the reason why
Went to the kitchen and lit a cigarette
Blew my worries to the sky
Im stepping out
Im stepping out
Im stepping out
Im stepping out
If it dont feel right you dont have to do it
Just leave a message on the phone and tell them to screw it
After all is said and done you cant go pleasin everyone
So screw it...
Im stepping out
Im stepping out
Im stepping out baby
Im stepping out
Babys sleeping the cats have all been blessed
Aint nothing doing on tv (summer repeats)
Put on my space suit I got to look my best
Im going out to do the city
Im stepping out
Im stepping out
Im stepping out babe
Im stepping out (boogie)
Im stepping out (hold it down)
Im stepping out
Im stepping out
Gotta gotta gotta gotta get out
Im stepping out babe
Just awhile
Aint been out for days...

I'll Get Even With You
For all the nights you held me close
Warmed my heart when it was cold
When I was giving up
You gave me love
From some dark alley in my mind
You made a hidden dream unwind
Turned my stumbling blocks
To stepping stones
I'll get even with you
For the hard times you helped me through
I'm giving back to you
All the love you've given me
For the rest of my life
Everyday and everynight
If it's the last thing I ever do
I'll get even with you
When the odds were against me
And I was lost with no will to go on
You wrapped your loving arms around my heart
Took my losin' hand and led me home
I'll get even with you
For the hard times you helped me through
I'm giving back to you
All the love you've given me
For the rest of my life
Everyday and everynight
If it's the last thing I ever do
I'll get even with you
If it's the last thing I ever do
I'll get even with you.

(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
You're trying to make your mark in society
Using all the tricks that you used on me.
You're reading all those high fashion magazines
The clothes you're wearin' girl are causing public scenes.
I said
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
Not your stepping stone,
Not your stepping stone.
When I first met you girl you didn't have no shoes
Now you're walking 'round like you're front page news.
You've been awful careful 'bout the friends you choose
But you won't find my name in your book of Who's Who.
I said
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
I I I I I'm not your stepping stone
Not your stepping stone,
Not your stepping stone

Im Stepping Out
A one, a two, a one, two, three, four!
This here is the story about a househusband who, you know,
Just want to get out of the house, has been looking at you,
You, know, the kids, days and days, hes been watching the
Kitchen and screwing around or whatever it has to be till
Hes gone crazy!
Woke up this morning, blues around my head.
No need to ask the reason why.
Went to the kitchen and lit a cigarette,
Blew my worries to the sky.
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out, yeh!
If it dont feel right, you dont have to do it.
Just leave a message on the phone and tell them to screw it.
And after all is said and done,
You cant go pleasin evryone so screw it.
Uh-uh-uh,
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out, baby,
Im stepping out.
Babys sleeping, the cats have all been blessed,
Aint nothing doing on tv. (some old repeat!)
Put on my spacesuit, I got to look my best,
Im going out to do the city.
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out, babe,
Im stepping out.
Boogie!
One more!
Im stepping out, hold it down,
Im stepping out,
Im stepping out,
Gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta get out!
Im stepping out, babe, just for a while.
Aint been out for days! got to do it tonight!
Give me a break! give me a break! gotta get out!
Gotta get out!
Just for a while, just for the night.
Ill be in before one, or two, or three.
Goodbye.

A Heavy Load
You travel down the road
carrying a heavy load
and hit a stumbling block that's new.
It doesn't even surprise you
for there's been more than a few.
Looking back you realize
it's a miracle you're still here.
Sickness, pain and loss
have brought too many a tear
on each additional year.
When you hear of other's plights
your load seems not as bad.
There are always other people
whose loads are much more sad
than what it is you've had.
That cross that's on your shoulder
will be lifted eventually.
And all the stumbling blocks
will be removed momentously
as you meet eternity.

I Think I Understand
Daylight falls upon the path, the forest falls behind
Today I am not prey to dark uncertainty
The shadow trembles in its wrath, Ive robbed its blackness blind
And tasted sunlight as my fear came clear to me
I think I understand
Fear is like a wilderland
Stepping stones or sinking sand
Now the way leads to the hills, above the steeples chime
Below me sleepy rooftops round the harbor
Its there Ill take my thirsty fill of friendship over wine
Forgetting fear but never disregarding her
Oh, I think I understand
Fear is like a wilderland
Stepping stones and sinking sand
Sometimes voices in the night will call me back again
Back along the pathway of a troubled mind
When forests rise to block the light that keeps a traveler sane
Ill challenge them with flashes from a brighter time
Oh, I think I understand
Fear is like a wilderland
Stepping stones or sinking sand

Stepping Stones
Baby youve been up, broken down
Every man knows your name in this whole damn town
In every bar they know your drink, what should I think
I turned around to look and you gave some dude a wink
I thought Id be happy with a woman like you,
But you walked on my pride and my manhood too
I dont know too much but one thing I know
A man stuck on you is like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
What you forgot to mention, what was your real intention
Did you want a man to love, or someone to prop and carry you up
To a higher status, but the matter of fact is, your detachment
Will bring you further down and now youre all used up
Dont bother coming round
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Well, I remember back to waht you put me thru
I keep thinking to myself
Whats wrong with you
Aint it enough to have a man for a lover and a friend
Tear him up and leave him when the moneys spent
Well, youre just like delilah sittin in her den
You take the strongest man and break em down again
But I have gained some knowledge
Go on pack your things and move back to college
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone
Because you keep using me like a stepping stone

Aspirations To Be Met
Poetry is me.
I write about the struggles in life
and all my calamities.
The obstacles beset by and all of life's anxieties.
Or I may write of my success,
The fights fought and won,
How I would have raised my head above the water.
Things that I would have thought were stumbling blocks but turned into stepping stones.
I will write of how I became successful.
But I have a dream.
A dream that I will be able to write about the seemingly less important things in life.
Things that society did not stamp their stamp on as priority.
Like a ball, a tree, a toothbrush or even a bicycle-tyre.
To be able to write on the little things that add meaning to what it means to live.
These are things to be accomplished,
Visions to see,
Goals and aspirations to be met.
But I am a babe in the world of poetry.
I am like a kid who says-
'When I get big I want to be just like the poetic legends.'
I shake my head when I read the work of the professionals
Like Pablo Neruda, Maya Angelou and my favorite
Lawrence S. Pertillar.
I ask myself when will this be me?
But I have a vision
And I can see that I will graduate from being just a kid who writes to express herself freely
Into a Juggernaut of poetry.
The world will not be able to hide from my words.
They must hear me.
I foresee that my work will raise to the heights of the statue of liberty
And all of my sayings, all of my poems will shine just like that torch,
So radiantly.

What is the difference between....?
What is the difference between black and white?
What is the difference between day and night?
What is the difference between love and hate?
What is the difference between a woman and a mate?
The answers seem to be so easy
as the difference between to be free and to be busy.
But! Can you tell me the difference between a lie and a truth?
Can you tell me the difference between old age and youth?
Will you tell me the difference between a grant and a sob?
If you don’t know this difference you can flop.
I would like to know the difference between wrong and right,
I would like to know the difference between a war and a fight.
If you know the answers please, write.
It will be interesting to know your opinion,
And may be I will find it to be brilliant.

Jigsaw of life
Square peice of sorrow
Round peice of happiness
Diamond peice of faith
Jagged peice of hate
Oblong peice of hope
Stepping stones
Peices of paper
Wooden blocks
Many roads to wander
Many turns to take
Many mistakes to ponder
Many joys to shed tears
Sorrow, happiness, hate, faith and hope
Fit together at times
Easier than others
Patience they say
Will win at the end of the day
Whatever your picture
Please remember
Many goes it may take
To put your picture together
Lifes jigsaw puzzle is no easy task

Your failures could be stepping-stones to success.
Men may rise on stepping stones of their dead selves to higher things.
