The Cockatoo and the Kangaroo
The happy cockatoo asked the hopping kangaroo,
“Does everyone in your family have a purse like you? ”
The hopping kangaroo stopped and smiled at the bird,
Saying, “Calling it a pouch would be a better word.”
The happy cockatoo was interested in learning more
And asked, “A pouch? Please tell me what it’s for.
The kangaroo explained that she had become a mother.
This pouch was the home of this new precious other.
Out of the pouch the precious baby popped his head;
Looked at the cockatoo with a funny smile and said,
“You make me very nervous Mr. Happy Cockatoo.
Flying in the air with those arms on top of you.”
Mother kangaroo said, “Don’t be afraid of such things.
Since this cockatoo is a bird, those are called wings.
Just as we kangaroo hop on our legs to get around,
The cockatoo uses its wings to fly above the ground.”
The cockatoo said, “I guess it’s like my nest in the tree
Where I lay and hatch my eggs, then raise my family.”
Your ways seem strange. It’s different from what I see.
Though when I get to know you, you’re a lot like me.
We both have our babies and help them find their way
So they can love and raise their own families another day.
It’s this love we all share that shines brightly as a flame
Whether pouch, feather or wing, we’re all much the same.”

California Sex Lawyer
I'm going coast to coast
I'm going nation-wide
I've got my hand on the trigger
Got my girl by my side
I've got the looks that kill
I've got a license to love
I've got a german shepard
And his name is Doug
I'm heading for the sun
I'm gunna become
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
Well it's not fair, but baby I dont care
I've got big ideas
I've got back up plans
I've got the cha-cha-charisma
Got the slight of hand
I'm gunna do some damage
Gunna bust some heads
I'm gunna go the distance
Then I'm going to bed
I'm heading for the sun
I'm gunna become
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
Well it's not fair, but baby I dont care
I'm heading for the sun
I'm gunna become
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
A California sex lawyer, oh yeah
Well It's not fair
It's not fair

Yeah
Yeah
Baby, baby, come on keep it up
I found myself at the drugstore,
Baby rapping with my funky friends
Shed tears of joy for a soul of sadness, ah ah
My mind was made up now baby
But my mouth kept talking
What the hell am I gonna do,
Gonna do
I said how the hell did they get there, baby
How the hell did they get there, baby
I met this thing called Carrie
She kinda smoked those long French cigarettes (know what I mean boys)
She tried to get me upset
By saying silly little things
My mind was made up now baby
But my mouth kept talking
The hell am I gonna do,
Gonna do
I said how the hell did they get there, baby
How the hell did they get there, baby
How the hell did they
I say how the hell did they
How the hell did they get there, baby
Come on, keep it up
Um, No matter hard I try, try, try, try
Yes, I was Marti, Marti, Marti, Marti, Marti, Marti, Marti
Try a little tenderness,
Come on try, A little tenderness
Same thing
Makes you do wrong
Makes you do right, yeah, yeah, baby baby,
Come on Gimme some groove thing
Groove thing
Horns, horns
Oh try tender, ah oh
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Mind was made up now baby
But my mouth kept talking
What the hell am I gonna do,
Gonna do
I said how the hell did they get there, baby
How the hell did they get there, baby
The hell did they
I said how the hell did they
How the hell did they get there, baby
Gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta
Get there baby,
Baby, baby
Gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta
Get there baby,
Baby, baby, yeah
How the hell did they
I said how the hell did they,
I said how the hell did they,
Get there baby

It is better to be a mouse in a cat's mouth than a man in a lawyer's hands.
Unless Hell is full, no lawyer will ever be saved.
Unless hell is full no lawyer will ever be saved.
So that in 1974, when I graduated as a lawyer, I figured I'm not going to be a lawyer under a military regime.

The God Is Safe
I went to the doctor and the God.
The disease was cured; I thanked the God.
I went to the lawyer and the God.
The case was lost and I cursed the lawyer.

Temperamentally, Sam and I are very much alike. He's a lawyer, my father's a lawyer, and I always wanted to play one. On so many levels the role just felt right. I fell in love with it as I would a woman.

The Brothers
Scene-_A lawyer's dreadful den.
Enter stall-fed citizen.
LAWYER.-'Mornin'. How-de-do?
CITIZEN.-Sir, same to you.
Called as counsel to retain you
In a case that I'll explain you.
Sad, _so_ sad! Heart almost broke.
Hang it! where's my kerchief? Smoke?
Brother, sir, and I, of late,
Came into a large estate.
Brother's-h'm, ha,-rather queer
Sometimes _(tapping forehead) _here.
What he needs-you know-a 'writ'-
Something, eh? that will permit
Me to manage, sir, in fine,
His estate, as well as mine.
'Course he'll _kick_; 't will break, I fear,
His loving heart-excuse this tear.
LAWYER.-Have you nothing more?
All of this you said before-
When last night I took your case.
CITIZEN.-Why, sir, your face
Ne'er before has met my view!
LAWYER.-Eh? The devil! True:
My mistake-it was your brother.
But you're very like each other.

Lay Me Down
(l. stansfield/i. devaney/a. morris)
Hes warmer than the radiator
Sweeter than caramel
The way he weaves his madness
And it puts me in a spell
He twists me round his finger
And I enjoy it so
Hold me in his tender arms
And never let me go
Hell never let me go
Never let me go
Never let me go
Chorus:
Do, down, lay me down (x4)
Theres never complication
Hell never compromise
His kisses never ending
And they send me to the sky
Hes understanding
And hell never let me down
He fills me up with passion
And hell always be around
Hell always be around
Hell always be around
Always be, he will always be around
Do, down, lay me down (x2)
You hear what I say
Do, down, lay me down (x3)
Hell never let me down
Do, down, lay me down
Do you know what it means to me
Do, down, lay me down
And hes everything, oh baby
Hell always be around
Hell always be around
Hell always be around
Hell always be, hell always be around

The Man Who Was Away
The widow sought the lawyer's room with children three in tow,
She told the lawyer man her tale in tones of deepest woe.
She said, "My husband took to drink for pains in his inside,
And never drew a sober breath from then until he died.
"He never drew a sober breath, he died without a will,
And I must sell the bit of land the childer's mouth to fill.
There's some is grown and gone away, but some is childer yet,
And times is very bad indeed -- a livin's hard to get.
"There's Min and Sis and little Chris, they stops at home with me,
And Sal has married Greenhide Bill that breaks for Bidgeree.
And Fred is drovin' Conroy's sheep along the Castlereagh
And Charley's shearin' down the Bland, and Peter is away."
The lawyer wrote the details down in ink of legal blue --
"There's Minnie, Susan, Christopher, they stop at home with you;
There's Sarah, Frederick and Charles, I'll write to them today,
But what about the other son -- the one who is away?
"You'll have to furnish his consent to sell the bit of land."
The widow shuffled in her seat, "Oh, don't you understand?
I thought a lawyer ought to know -- I don't know what to say --
You'll have to do without him, boss, for Peter is away."
But here the little boy spoke up -- said he, "We thought you knew;
He's done six months in Goulburn gaol -- he's got six more to do."
Thus in one comprehensive flash he made it clear as day,
The mystery of Peter's life -- the man who was away.

Eastern Grey Kangaroo
'Macropus Giganteus'
Is this your tribal name?
And we are human beings.
You live in Australian Green
And we like to hide in your secured pouch
To see our daughter and Son-in-law in Dandenong North
Oh! Our friends Alison and Jerry too.
All of them may surprise when we jump out to their premises.
Dear Kangaroo, You are so innocent like us
And we are friends indeed.
We reduce our weight and never give you a burden.
In your warm pouch we dream a cold pasture.
*To Tharindu & Kelum...............Alison & Jerry........!
[Tharindu, the stamp on your letter with two Kangaroos really amazed me.]

The Mouth Of Hell
Of a blind life within the brain,
Of sold chains of our shackles about the feet;
Foe nown i do see the true old times.
Of the bitter tears against a brow,
Of my grievous wounds;
Sad as it is,
It is like the glories of the winter moon.
I am back from the mouth of hell,
Where the fairest hady laid her head upon my lap;
'You are the tallest of them all',
She said it because of love.
With the sadness of my heart like,
A dream from the frozen hills;
So i said to her, 'Am i your dearest'?
With my handsomeness still in years increased.
Tell me if you love me,
Like eight summers old with a lover;
Of a sudden cry out of hell to sing to eternity,
Like the inventor of harmonies that swing the muse.
'I am her dearest',
That is what i heard;
Of hopes and dreams to come out of hell!
My dearest, my nearest;
You are like a butterfly with sweet love but,
I am now out of your hell.
Like words across a ridge,
The pen is mightier than the sword;
Like a voluble answer,
The tongue is more evil than you thought.
It will be a token for her,
Paying for her in the valley of death;
Yes, love had led many into the mouth of hell.
My grief and solitude have broken me,
But i will still bless you all that i have loved;
Like the fountains of sweet water in the sea,
Have you seen her of late?
Love had led many to death,
Hate had led many to war,
But i am now out of this hell.
