Generalizations, like brooms, ought not to stand in a corner forever; they ought to sweep as a matter of course.

Emily Dickinson

She sweeps with many-colored brooms,

She sweeps with many-colored brooms,
And leaves the shreds behind;
Oh, housewife in the evening west,
Come back, and dust the pond!

You dropped a purple ravelling in,
You dropped an amber thread;
And now you've littered all the East
With duds of emerald!

And still she plies her spotted brooms,
And still the aprons fly,
Till brooms fade softly into stars --
And then I come away.

Stuck In Doubtful Visions

Jobs coming and created...
Will instill an appreciation,
For the infrastructure...
Long depreciated.

And disciplined these millions will be.
Trained to respect...
The 'We Can' vision,
President Obama expects.
A fresh horizon is what's next!

Changes to all aspects,
Of a way of life many neglected.
Come!
And everyone,
Will do their part...
With a deeper understanding.
Felt in their minds and hearts.

A new dawn will find many,
Clinging on...
To their mops and brooms,
To make room for it when it appears.
Making it clear to those,
Stuck in doubtful visions...
As they sweep in a uniformed awareness.
Executed like nothing known before!

The new broom sweeps well

'Yes sir, it's true but when I get old that won't be applicable.
You too seems to be wearied like me by sweeping.
If they do not throw the dirt on streets
Then both of us can stay together freely.'
'Where did you study? ' I asked.
'Boss! You never learn such things in the school
We are brooms and sweep others dirt by heredity? '

Pick Up That Broom and Sweep, Boy

Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.
If you wanna eat.
You gotta get sweepin'
Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.
If you wanna eat.
You gotta get sweepin
And if you don't sweep,
You ain't going to sleep.

Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.
If you wanna eat.
You gotta get sweepin'
Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.
Nobody's peepin' on the way you sweep.
And if you don't sweep,
You ain't going to sleep.
And you wont sleep,
If you don't eat.
So I suggest get off your seat...
Grab that broom and commence to sweepin'

Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.
If you wanna eat.
You gotta get sweepin'
Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.
Nobody's peepin' on the way you sweep.
And if you don't sweep,
You ain't going to sleep.
And you wont sleep,
If you don't eat.
So I suggest get off your seat...
Grab that broom and commence to sweepin'

Pick up that broom and sweep, boy.

If you wanna eat.
You gotta get sweepin
And if you don't sweep,
You ain't going to sleep.
So don't try sneakin' tippy toe on your feet,
Across this floor because it creaks.
And when that happens...
My dog Pete,
Will do his best to sink his teeth.
Right into your funky meat.
And you'll go screamin down the street.
And I'll report you to the police.
Who will bring you back here...
Once again until you sweep.
And it you don't do it,
You'll join those who've been deleted!

'You better pick up that broom,
And sweep, boy! '

~I gotcha 'boy' ol'man! ~

Gestapo

You had life so easy...
You thought you were the chips and cheese.
And you mocked,
Those who were not!

You thought it a breeze,
To do just what you pleased.
And you shopped...
'Til you dropped.

You stole what you had,
And you thought it would never stop.
When you thought your life was threatened...
You would call the cops.
Now that things have turned around...
A mess is all you've got,
To show.
And you know...
Your back's broke.

A gestapo is on the march.
Soon to knock on your door...
With a broom and mop.
To clean up your slop!

A gestapo is on the march.
Issuing brooms and mops.
To clean up the slop!
Believe it or not!

And the ones who sit on stoops...
Will be grouped,
And pooped from pushing.

'Lock step! Mops! Push! '

A gestapo is on the march.
Issuing brooms and mops.
To clean up the slop!
Believe it or not!

A gestapo is on the march.
Issuing brooms and mops.
To clean up the slop!
Believe it or not!

You had life so easy...
You thought you were the chips and cheese.
And you mocked,
Those who were not!
But...
A gestapo is on the march.
Issuing brooms and mops.
To clean up the slop!
Believe it or not!

'Lock step! Mops! Push! '

A gestapo is on the march.
Issuing brooms and mops.
To clean up the slop!
Believe it or not!

And the ones who sit on stoops...
Will be grouped!
And pooped,
From pushing.

Debris Leavers

Debris leavers,
Are first to suggest...
Rodents infest their dwellings.
And their taxes are paid,
But don't seem to get rid of pests.
And yet not one of them protests,
When throwing their own garbage in the streets.
Nor do they take brooms to sweep,
The floors in their own homes.
The only thing that is missing,
Is the mud for these pigs!
Although...
That comparison to pigs is quite an unfair one!
Since I am told,
Pigs do use mud to cool and protect themselves from Sun.
And when they snort...
Not one of them is trying to get high,
To escape from lies they manifest to tolerate their own mess.

'Why are you so pessimistic? '

Isn't pessimism connected to some emotional attachment?
Or a negative reaction to that which one can not accept?

'Yeah!
Yeah, something like that? '

I apologize if I offend you in your beloved environment.
However...
If I have to step over trash.
OR clear it before knocking on your front door.
I can just imagine what is hidden in the back!
And out of my sight.
Trust me...
Blight is not one of my top tens.

'Listen...
That's how we live here.
If it is okay with us...
Why should you complain about it! ? '

Well...
Because I too pay taxes.
For the police protection you demand.
And the filth that's created by your mind and hands.
Tossing excuses about at my expense.
And...
I'm doing the best I can to be a true friend.
So don't push no buttons here!
Hopefully one day you will awaken.
To find fresh air to breathe that is clear.

'Hopefully you will learn to keep your mouth shut! '

You mean like 'you' and the rest of 'them'?
The ones who choose to sit on soft and fattened butts.

'No you didn't go there? '

Broom Poem

a history of the broom
a short one, or long
will see us down on the floors
in the streets and the corners;
a little excursion to the theaters
of farce and wayward husbands
beaten by outraged wives;
and if we included this poem
in this sweep of history
I hope a poem with a broom
does not fire the same ignorance
as beliefs did
conjuring women with brooms
supposed witches who flew in the sky…
you burned them, remember?

and you would again, given half the chance

On Being Popular

Lie!
Shake hands and smile in their faces.
Strip them of their natural resources.
Starve them to death!
Show them and the world how worthless they are!
Mock their existence!
Throw them sandwiches for photo ops.
Hand out bibles and teach them hymns!
And then select which ones are qualified...
To make brooms to sweep your floors!
Divide them into tribes to worship images of you!
Being popular is your motivating tool!
Eventually these actions,
Will make you the paying fool!
But who cares?
Since no one is aware of the things you do!

A Lady red—amid the Hill

74

A Lady red—amid the Hill
Her annual secret keeps!
A Lady white, within the Field
In placid Lily sleeps!

The tidy Breezes, with their Brooms—
Sweep vale—and hill—and tree!
Prithee, My pretty Housewives!
Who may expected be?

The Neighbors do not yet suspect!
The Woods exchange a smile!
Orchard, and Buttercup, and Bird—
In such a little while!

And yet, how still the Landscape stands!
How nonchalant the Hedge!
As if the "Resurrection"
Were nothing very strange!

Sonnet: People These Days

Sometimes, one knows not how one gets his wealth;
Sometimes, one forgets where it lies in mounds!
Sometimes, one slogs in spite of failing health;
The wealth unused becomes another one’s!

Some buy estates and grow fruit-trees in it;
Some build guest-houses, temples and show-rooms;
To save some tax, some donate by habit;
Some sweep the twigs and fallen leaves with brooms!

How people crave to make money some more!
They enjoy not as how a pauper does;
Some miserly live staying much indoors;
To give a nickel, they make such a fuss!

And yet, all know they leave behind all wealth,
Whether acquired by luck or by stealth.

Sweep Away Your Own Debris

So clear you were not here,
When the trenches were dug.
And when the heat appeared,
Not a dropp of sweat...
Came from your brow.
And you expect my attention,
To listen to your delayed intentions!
And you expect my time to mention this...
Now?

Too much of what you have,
And take for granted...
Has been made easy for you to judge.
Including my activities.
But in my life,
What you say and offer...
Has not been made my priority.
Not to influence me to budge!

Your seriousness is elementary to me.
And there is something to be said,
About those who toiled from the old school!
Who learned to use their minds...
And not toys to use as tools to advance fools.

My path has never been paved,
With options.
Nor was it ever paved before time to it I gave.
And any options appearing,
Are those I made!

You show up to discuss,
How I should approach 'my' adventure.
When you display no ambition...
To pick up a broom,
And sweep away your own debris!
That's why I prefer you not to be around me.
To distract with aspects of your own insecurities.

Don't attempt to use my energy.
Sweep away your own debris!
Sweep away your own debris!
Or go elsewhere to play.
Just get away from around me.

I Am Not Your Broom

Now broom, you must now sweep for me
The dust it fills my room
No, john, I will not sweep for you
For I am not your broom
What nonsense are you speaking, broom
My words you must obey
Another life awaits me and
Im leaving you today
I am not your broom
I am not your broom
Ive had enough, Im throwing off
My chains of servitude
I am not your broom
I am not your broom
No longer must I sweep for you
For I am not your broom

The Wings of an Angel

To sweep down like an angel
and enclose the heart of a soul,
lost and lonely and aching,
praying to be whole,
portrays a picture so lovely.
I can feel those wings on me.

Let those wings carry me
to a place that's far from here.
For I am that soul that's pleading.
The sound of your wings are clear.
Approaching me with care,
I appeal to you in prayer

to sweep down like an angel
with gossamer wings so strong,
Filmy and silky and beautiful
and carry me along
to the place where angels sing a song
and care for souls like me.

We'll Sweep Out The Ashes In The Morning

(Joyce Allsup)
Emmylou Harris & Barry Tashlin
We know it's wrong to let this fire burn between us
We've got to stop this wild desire in you and in me
So we'll let the flame burn once again until the thrill is gone
Then we'll sweep out the ashes in the morning.
We're two people caught up in the flame that has to die down soon
I didn't mean to start this fire and neither did you
So tonight when you hold me tight we'll let the fire burn on
And we'll sweep out the ashes in the morning.
--- Instrumental ---
Each time when we meet we both agree that it's for the last time
But out of your arms I'm out of my mind
So we'll taste the thrill of stolen love tonight until the dawning
And we'll sweep out the ashes in the morning.
Yes, we'll taste the thrill of stolen love tonight until the dawning
And we'll sweep out the ashes we'll sweep out the ashes
We'll sweep out the ashes in the morning...
