You Are Dressed
you are dressed i see
like me
white as snow
and well ironed like
a kimono
i ask you
where are you going from here?
and you said
a question for an answer
how about you
where are you going from here?
and i ask too
a question to another question
do you know where you are going to?
and then i tell that man in white: i am staying.
and he went away without telling me where.
when i tell mother about it
she says
good my son, you did not go with him
by now, you would have been dead.
mother i know, as always, is superstitious.

To Alice-Sit-By-The-Hour
Lady in the blue kimono, you that live across the way,
One may see you gazing, gazing gazing all the livelong day,
Idly looking out your window from your vantage point above.
Are you convalescent, lady? Are you worse? Are you in love?
Ever gazing, as you hang there on the little window seat,
Into flats across the way or down upon the prosy street,
Can't you rent a pianola? Can't you iron, sew, or cook?
Write a letter, bake a pudding, make a bed or read a book?
Tell me of the fascination you indubitably find
In the "High Cash Cloe's!" man's holler in the hurdy-gurdy grind.
Are your Spanish castles blue prints? Are you waiting for a knight
To descend upon your fastness and to save you from your plight?
Lady in the blue kimono, idle mollycoddle dame,
Does your doing nothing never make you feel the blush of shame?
As you sit and stare and ditto, not a single thing to do,
Lady in the blue kimono, lady, how I envy you!

All Dressed Up
Dont you see
Im the one for you, youre the one for me
Dont you see
The love Ive got is the love you need
Dont you see
Im all dressed up
To be what you want
Me to be Im all dressed up
To be what you want me to be
Im all dressed up
All dressed up, all dressed up
Dont you see, dont you see
The infinite possibilities
Dont you need, dont you need
The kind of love that I need
Dont you see me, dont you see me
Im all dressed up
To be what you want me to be
Im all dressed up
To be what you taught me to be
Im all dressed up
All messed up, all messed up
You dont even notice me
Moving you like a ton of glaciers
You dont even notice me
Soothing you like a long lost sister
You dont even care
No you dont even care
All dressed up
With no place to go
But home, but home
Im all dressed up
To be what you want me to be
Im all dressed up
To be what you want me to be
Im all dressed up
All dressed up, all dressed up
You dont even comfort me
And carry on with the will of samson
You dont even comfort me
You keep your faith and you keep your phantoms
And you dont even care
No you dont even care
All dressed up still theres something wrong
Im all dressed up and youre just a song
Im all dressed up youre forever gone everlong
You dont even care
No you dont even care
You dont even care
No you dont even care
You dont even care
No you dont even care
You dont even care
No you dont even care
You dont even care
No you dont even care
You dont even care

All Dressed Up For School
Doot doot doot-doot doot
Doot doot doot-doot doot
Doot doot doot-doot doot
Doot doot doot-doot doot
Well she first caught my eye a runnin' round in shorts
But she never bothered with her hair
Just a barefooted chick with all skinned up knees
Yeah she didn't care what she'd wear
(All dressed up for school)
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
All dressed up for school
All summer long she had a crush on me
But I just couldn't care at all
But new to school threads really did it for me
Yeah she's turned into a doll
(All dressed up for school)
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
All dressed up for school
Weah
Goes out every night 'cause she's a sharp little doll
And the guys can't leave her alone
Now she hardly finds the time to talk to me
She's not the little girl I've always known
(All dressed up for school)
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
Dressed up for school, ooo what a turn on
All dressed up for school

Observations.
Observations
I think that I may never see.
A hippo in a kimono.
I rather think that it would be
a rarity in Tokyo.
Nor do I expect to see
gorillas wearing pink tutus.
Because it seems apparently.
They’re not what a great ape would choose
But I have seen humans dressed
just as inappropriately.
In their attempts to look their best.
But sadly they fail miserably.
I think perhaps you will agree.
That some have flair and some do not
There are some things I’d like to see
but many more I’d rather not.
Aging mutton dressed as lamb.
Is something I see frequently.
Some women do not give a damn
What others think it’s plain to see.
You can’t hold back much less erase.
The signs that living leaves behind
The lines and wrinkles on your face.
I do not mean to be unkind.
Why is it that you can’t accept
The fact that you are growing old.
And creams and lotions won’t protect
Despite the lies that you are told.
By advertisements that promise to
make you look younger than you are.
You know quite well they are not true.
Cosmetics only go so far.
Accept your lines and wrinkles show
You have attained maturity
and you are wise enough to know.
How to dress appropriately.

2010/02/18 Beautiful Pink Kimono
Beneath my jet-black pullover
I wear a pink kimono beautifully
revealed as I drift daintily down
street – the watery way I mean
An exotic butterfly, a lady taking
small Japanese steps while my
favourite soprano sings Les Oiseaux
Dans La Charmille in my ears
Head demurely bent sans sunglasses
they’d have spoiled the effect, my eyes
on a sheer pink orchid petal kimono
rustling enticingly
A sun-screen between me and real
world traffic, I see only pink and feel
myself floating in a Japanese scene
of unequalled beauty…

Pseudo Silk Kimono
(fish / marillion)
Huddled in the safety of a pseudo silk kimono wearing bracelets of smoke
Naked of understanding
Nicotine smears, long, long dried tears, invisible tears
Safe in my own words, learning from my own words
Cruel joke, cruel joke
Huddled in the safety of a pseudo silk kimono a morning mare rides
In the starless shutters of my eyes
The spirit of a misplaced childhood is rising to speak his mind
To this orphan of heartbreak, disillusioned and scarred
A refugee, refugee

Better to wash an old kimono than borrow a new one.

Writing is a kind of performing art, and I can't sit down to write unless I'm dressed. I don't mean dressed in a suit, but dressed well and comfortably and I have to be shaved and bathed.

A man who always wears his best kimono has no Sunday clothes.

Asked how old he was
Asked how old he was,
the boy in the new kimono
stretched out all five fingers.

The millstone that lies undermost also helps to grind.
Dog Life
It`s too painful to continue this dog life,
for all the doghouse walls are like the edge of knife, he had thought.
A collard hound prowling around a cruel, immortal millstone,
-rounding by an old dogmatic dog in the manger-
Looking for daily bread and far-fetching collar string,
-a pre-existent, invisible and really inflexible string-
Was dogging his doggish days down the drain.
The dog-tired dog while his dogs were barking,
Couldn`t hunt, neither the bread nor the string.
Submerged and completly deaf and blind,
Under the shady shadow of dogged millstone,
He was willingly barking his last barks,
While vomiting his former-life, by his own string.
His barks let sleeping dog lie, while
He can`t rememberhis putrid nightmare…
Even the vultures, having dogfight above it,
Don`t ask for whom the bells toll at night;
And I am still gazing at the poor pointer forget to breath,
Stopped on at eleven, at rest…

Ghetto Dressed
Ghetto dressed...
Is still the same mess,
Ghetto dressed.
It may not be politically correct,
To address this publicly.
Or expect this confessed.
But some who lack a certain finesse...
With social graces limited at best.
May acquire an appearance,
That might impress.
However...
If there is no consciousness,
That understands there is more to success...
Than 'things' one possesses.
Ghetto dressed...
Is still the same mess,
Ghetto dressed.
And 'if' left unaddressed...
It will never progress,
To heights of one's accepted satisfaction.
That's just the way it is,
Without polish, sacrifice and a few tears!

Against the beautiful and the clever and the successful, one can wage a pitiless war, but not against the unattractive: then the millstone weighs on the breast.

Kimono
The Kimono
I was joining a ship in another town; mother followed me the railway station,
which was not far as we lived nearby? From the train I looked down at her and
saw what I had never seen, a woman with unkempt hair, in an old overcoat
with missing buttons and shoes that needed heeling. There were many other
people on the platform, but she stood out looking like a bag woman.
I felt ashamed and guilty for feeling embarrassed. When returning I will have
money to buy her a new coat, shoes and send her to a hairdresser, I thought.
The train moved forward and I waved as long as I could see her.
A year later my ship had just left Tokyo, bound for the Panama canal, when
the radio operator came into the galley with a cable, I could see in his face he
had no glad tiding. I sat in my cabin grieving, took out the kimono I had bought
her it was made of silk and was as soft as a mother’s embrace; and I cried.
A knock on my door it was the captain who said: “No time for tears son, crew
needs to be fed and you are the cook.“ That night and many nights thereafter
I was lulled asleep by the ship’s steady heartbeat.

The neck is kind of what's sexy in Japan, so you have to have the kimono a little bit back. It was just a whole different way of appealing to what was sexy.
