Lent, which seems so long, is short at other men's tables.

Show Tune II

That's the long and short of it
now you know
how I've been waiting all these years
where I'm coming from
that's the long and short of it.

That's the long and short of it
now you see
just how hot hot jazz was
how it turned about, my bookcase
that's the long and short of it.

That's the long and short of it
now you know
that my arrest record's
not my best record
that's the long and short of it.

That's the long and short of it
now you see
how the Past's like a love
you can neither leave nor live
that's the long and short of it

That's the long and short of it
now you know
it was no gun in my pocket
it was a rocket
that's the long and short of it.

That's the long and short of it
and you're wond'ring dear
how I kept so pure
hull, it was easy
that's the long and short of it.

That's the long and short of it
now you see
so bounce your head
into bed
that's the long and short of it.

That's the long and short of it
read the blues
in these tattoos
make a song of it
that's the short and long of it.

How I wish
there was a bridge-
then I could burn it;
or the train
of a refrain
then I could board it
but there isn't
no there isn't, so...

0016 Amphibrach

A tinker, a tailor, a soldier, a sailor...
‘A one and a two and a three and a four, guys…’

The amphibrach sings one of poetry’s basics;
a metrical foot – though a difficult one; it
is named from the Greek, meaning short at
both ends – that is, short, long, short, short, long short;
a poet can use it like this for a few lines, or longer;
however, it always seems trying to be something
else – like, some poor donkey who’s lame in one hind-leg;
it’s happier changing to dactyl or ana-
pest – see what I mean, now?

I used to walk around like
Nothing could happen to me
Life is a gamble so i
Should live life more carefully
But all I know is that i
Control my own destiny
I used to look at others
Instead of me blaming me
Bridge:
Dont ask yourself why
Just look to the sky
Believe that soon youll see the other side
Chorus:
I know
That through all the struggle
Theres a bright road
At the end of the tunnel
Now you should know
Whatever your dilemma may be
Youll learn
Life is worth it
Watch the tables turn
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Whenever you feel troubled
With problems coming your way
Dont ever get discouraged
Theres always a better day
We all dont know the answers
Believe and trust when I say
That havin faith is always
The way to make things okay
Bridge
Chorus
Thats right
Alright
Youve had your ups and downs but
It happened for a reason
Cause after april showers
There will come a change of season
So please dont give up now cuz
The suns shinin through the clouds
Its gonna be alright
I know
Chorus
Chorus
Watch the tables turn
(watch the tables turn)
Watch the tables turn
(watch the tables turn)
Watch the tables turn
(watch the tables turn)
Watch the tables turn

Walking Tables

How do tables walk as one?
And why do chairs seem to run?
How my rest is desired, and how
Do I kick in the air for relaxation?
My chimney is found with the soot
Of a black utterance, as seemly as light;
The light travels up and down the world,
With smoke, crime is committed, like walking
Chairs and turning tables, this world is one.
With this house may I live alone,
Where wolves like criminals detest you.
Anyone walked a long distance, anyway,
Justice must be allowed, and searched
By the home and heaven.
How do tables and chairs move?

What is Lent?

Lent’s a special soul-time, God-lent!
Fervent prayers should rent the air to heaven;
Meant is Lent to mend and make amends in spiritual life;
Repent, empty your sins pent up;
Spent life should make way for an improved one.

Ask God’s forgiveness for all sins to the very last;
Control your mind and body through more fast;
Charity must become your life-ship’s main mast!
Bury the iniquities and life’s short-falls of the past;
Enrich your soul with grace of God vast!

Gain victory in your spiritual war;
Heal the soul’s sinful scar;
Prepare for heaven that’s not afar.

Mental Arithmetic

Twice two is four twice four is eight.
I do not need to calculate.
I learnt my tables long ago.
I need not think because I know.
The check out girls rely on tills
because they do not have the skills
Which I was taught in junior school.
They’ve always been a useful tool.
Without the till they would be lost
they cannot calculate the cost
of groceries I want to buy.
I think I know the reason why.
They don’t learn tables any more
and consequently can’t keep score.

The lofty legs are the beauty.

Short legs and short waist are the ducks.
Long legs and short waists are the geese.
Short legs and long waists are the penguins.
Lofty legs without waists are cranes
Who is graceful?
The crane stands out; the tall woman stands out.

Its All Over Now

(bobby and shirley womack)
Baby used to stay out all night long
She made me cry
You know she done me wrong
She held my eyes open and thats no lie
Tables turned and now its her turn to cry
But then I used to love her but its all over now
Yes it is
But then I used to love her but its all over now
Listen
She used to run around with every single man in town
Spent all my money playing her fast game
She put me out, it was a pity how I cried
But the tables turned and now its her turn to cry
Because I used to love her but its all over now
Aint no lie
Because I used to love her but its all over now
Listen
Well I used to wake the morning get my breakfast in bed
When I got worried shed ease my aching head
But now shes here and there with every single man in town
But the tables turned and now its her turn to cry
Because I used to love her but its all over now
Yes it is
Because I used to love her but its all over now
Listen to this one
Because I used to love her but its all over now
But then I used to love her but its all
Now wait a minute
But then I used to love her but you know
But you know its all over now
But then I used to love her but you know its all over now

Waitresses

At a restaurant there are young girls
playing waitress
and with firm breasts
and long legs
sticking out of
short dresses,
trying to catch
anyone’s eye

They stand and talk together
near to entrances
and bend low over tables,
while they serve orders
in a way that men can see
their womanly curves better.

I wonder where
all their young girl innocence went,
while one stand at my table
with big eyes
and smiles as if
the sun sparkles in her teeth
and she looks shameless
inviting at me

The Truth About Forever

How long is forever really?
You told me you'd love me forever and ever.
I actually believed you.
Forever is really short if its how long we made it.
Which was not long at all.
I gave you my heart,
And you took it for granted.
I can't believe I was that blind
That I did not see that we would never make it.
Forever sounds like a long time,
But you have proven it is really really short.
Forever sounded like a wonderful long time with you.
But now I see your real colors,
I am glad that forever is not long at all with you.

Sonnet: Lenten Reflections

Remove the thought(s) that lead to evil deeds;
Instill the mind with thought(s) to do things good;
Do acts of charity to sow love-seeds;
Remind often the Saviour's Cross of wood!

Lent is the time to start afresh and pray;
Lent is the chance to make amends in life;
Lent is the season when you try to fast;
Lent offers more closeness with God through strife!

Afill the soul with grace through confession;
Allow the Word of God to work its ways;
Reflect about the Lord Jesus' passion;
Relive the love of God by nights and days!

Lent is the special time of year for soul;
Rethink, repent and make divine your role!

If I should die tonight

"If I should die tonight
And you should come,
And stand beside me,
Lying cold and dumb,
And if while standing there,
You whispered low,
'Here's the ten pounds
You lent me years ago,'
I would arise, although they'd laid me flat,
And say, 'What's that?'

If I should die tonight
But rose to count
With trembling fingers,
That long lost amount
I might live on;
But when
You said' Here's your umbrella
And your fountain pen,'
For one short space
I'd gaze into thy face
And then
Drop dead again."

Magnificent Obsession

(frankie laine, fred karger)
Youre my magnificent obsession
The greatest wonder on this earth.
The taj mahal and other spendors
To me really have no worth.
Youre my magificent possession,
A treasure lent me from above.
As long as I have breath within me,
Youll be my one and only love.
(interlude)
Youre my magificent possession,
A treasure lent me from above.
As long as I have breath within me,
Youll be my one and only love.

Mouse and House

Underneath the tables responds the mouse,
Inside it weeps, and soaks up water in its house.
Its house is a follower’s abode, of stealth,
May the tables bend and steal the wealth.

In its house we found the treasure of cool surroundings,
There was gold, water and many, many beginnings.
The gold was stationary, like the hostility in the tables,
The real dining occurred in this hole for animals.

Time for a short poem

Short poems are great
they don't take very long
as they're only a few verses
the words won't be spelt wrong.
They can be about anything
as long as they rhyme
and because there short
it don't take much time.
This one isn't about much
in fact nothing at all
the reason it isn't long
is because I'm off to the Football.
So that's the end of this poem
as I'm now off to the match
but before the game kicks off
time for a few beers and a batch!

Loss is preceded by gain

When you return a pen,
borrowed from your friend,
you are to him grateful,
for having lent it for a while.
Why are you grief-stricken
when taken away is your kin
By Him who had lent him?
Remember this when you grieve.
