Sonnet- Stop Smoking, Could You Please!
Oh listen Sir, Oh listen please, will you?
“Cigarette smoke is injurious to health”,
And in the stages last what can you do?
Life pathetic turns, despite all your wealth.
Enough’s is enough, please draw the line, will you?
Give up your smoking habit, Now, today!
In life, there are much better things to do;
I plead to you to follow what I say.
All men on earth are imperfect, may be;
Our body, God gave us is so sacred;
It is not late to cease smoking- Be free;
Beware the Killer can pronounce one DEAD.
Oh listen Sir! cease smoking now, TODAY!
This is my Warning, Please and how I say.

Live Forever
(music: marillion lyrics: steve hogarth)
Well I gave up cocaine and I gave up smack
I gave up drinking alcohol and smoking crack
I gave up living on the never never
But I cant give up believing that Im going to live forever
Well I gave up computer games, I gave up meat
I gave up watching tv in my favourite seat
I gave up wearing fur and I gave up wearing leather
But I cant give up believing that Im going to live forever
Give it up, give it up
Dont you know youve got to lose?
The desires you were born with
And your talent to abuse
Give it up, give it up
Theres a better life to live
Give it up, give it up
Give it all youve got to give
Well I gave up sugar and I gave up spice
I gave up everything that feels allright
cos I feel that these addictions are a chain you have to sever
Im addicted to believing that Im going to live forever

Taking in and blowing out smoke? And now you see girls smoking cigars. It got to be such a fad. Girls on the covers of magazines, smoking cigars. Give me a break. I didn't want to be a part of that. I don't like ""popular.""

Why Are You Running?
Why are you running so far, so fast?
What are you running from, may I ask?
I don't know, it's just something I must do
Those others are running, do you want to come too?
Why are you smoking so often, so deep
Surely that smoke stings your eyes, makes you weep
I don't know, it's just something I must do
Those others are smoking, do you want to smoke too?
You're all running, all smoking, but you don't know why
You just do it and do it, but it makes me cry
Because I don't like to see people themselves kill
When they don't know why but they do it still

I was a militant smoker, and in my case, I think I particularly used smoking because what I felt was a kind of politically correct big brother assault on smoking.

Give Up Smoking Tobacco
A traveller walks with crutches,
passing by me with one leg stretches,
Other leg amputated above the knee,
Enquired I, Why? How?
Said he, one toe became black,
Reduced blood circulation to the little toe
and circulation to adjacent toes
also getting cut;
The history is that he was a smoker
of Beedi - rolled tobacco leaves -
Smoking of Beedi leads to narrowing of blood vessels
supplying the toes, results in clotting of blood;
The toes get gangrenous,
tissue death extends towards the hip
necessitating in amputation
of toes to midthigh;
Give up smoking tobacco
to escape from death of tissues
and removal of toes and lower limbs,
GIVE UP SMOKING TOBACCO!

The Chimney
this morning...this morning..this morning
the chimney of the desolate house in front of mine
is smoking...smoking...smoking
what a lovely sight
who may be there
on the snow
white smoke onthe white snow
the bare plum tree is
grinning...grinning..grinning
the black crow
on the hazel nut tree
crowing...crowing...crowing
as if life is newly beginning...beginning...beginning
guess..who is there...who is there
behind the yellow lignt seen at night
shining from the desolate window
someone...someone....someone
living. ..emerging from the house
ı wish all the chimneys of the lonely poor smoked
in the wilderness of the cold..cold of the snow
what a happy and a lovely sight
the desolate chimney is smoking...smoking...smoking
ı wish ı were in this old house too
with the mystery of the ancients
where they have come
ı never knew
the desolate house is reviving this morn
ı only see the shadows
growing...growing....growing..and moving

Smoking is the now the principal avoidable cause of premature death in Britain. It hits the worst off people hardest of all. Smoking is one of the principal causes of the health gap which leads to poorer people being ill more often and dying sooner.

Howling At The Moon
Sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la-la-la sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ships are docking planes are landing
A never ending supply
No more narco no more gangster
Conservatives can cry
I took the law and threw it away
'cause there's nothing wrong it's just for play
There's no law, no law any more
I want to steal from the rich and give to the poor
Sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la-la-la
It was glowing, glowing, glowing, glowing in the dark
It was sparkling, sparkling, sparkling, sparkling in the dark
I took the law and threw it away
'cause there's nothing wrong it's just for play
There's no law, no law any more
I want to steal from the rich and give to the poor
Winter turns to summer sadness turns to fun
Keep the faith, baby you broke the rules and won
Sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la sha-la-la-la-la-la
Keep it glowing, glowing, glowing
I'm not hurting any one keep it glowing, smoking, glowing
I'm howling at the moon
I took the law and threw it away
'cause there's nothing wrong it's just for play
There's no law, no law any more
I want to steal from the rich and give to the poor
Oh baby oh baby oh baby oh baby
I took the law and threw it away
'cause there's nothing wrong it's just for play
I'm smoking, baby
I'm smoking, oh baby
There's no law, no law any more
I want to steal from the rich and give to the poor

In His Corner
The Cut man and the manager
had seen this scene before.
Smoking Joe was staggering.
He looked destined for the floor.
His left eye badly swollen
from where a cut had bled.
For Fourteen Rounds
He'd matched his foe,
the greatest, many said.
Now it seemed he's have to yield
to this implacable foe.
Eddie reached and grabbed the towel
he was prepared to throw
Frazier glared with his good eye
to tell his corner ' NO'!
The minutes seemed forever.
He gave his all, they said
The fifteenth round has ended
and smoking Joe is dead.
In their last fight in Manila in 1975, Frazier and Ali traded punches with a fervor that seemed unimaginable among heavyweights. Frazier gave almost as good as he got for 14 rounds, then had to be held back by trainer Eddie Futch as he tried to go out for the final round, unable to see.
This is my tribute to Joe Frazier. In my scenario he goes out for that fifteen round against his opponent, Death

Of course, I also gave him the ineffable pleasures of pipe smoking. And no children, because when this character was created I did not yet have the four children I later had. I must add I also gave him a certain taste for food.

Smoking Serves a Host to Cancer
I was shocked to hear,
' Do you mind if I smoke? '
from a white boy in Melbourne Station
as I never heard it anywhere before
from people boasting of civilized manners.
The single moms here wanting a partner
say about themselves in plain:
' I smoke one or two times
and drink a glass of wine a day.'
Fine and frank wives they will be.
'Does smoking enhance your manliness? '
I asked him and he responded with a smile.
I gave up smoking
when my first grand child
told me of some bad smell
coming out of my mouth.
when I tried to revert
to that gentle habit after a gap,
a sense of vomiting, I felt
and said bye to it once for all.
Neither did I smoke in toilets
nor I blew plumes of smoke
on the faces of friends and elders.
Some boys say, they feel brave,
if they puff on cigars in open.
Some breathe out rings of fumes
before the girls waiting for the buses
but the girls these days exhale
curls of smoke to shock them.
A close friend of mine
who had been a chain-smoker
got the acquaintance of a sage
and was taught a fact of life:
' Lose one thing to gain another'.
so he has kept of smoking cigars
and brought in smoking marijuana.
He inhales the fumes into his lungs
and exhales through oral and nasal ways
to inflict a multi-pronged assault
on his fellow disciples.
Our boys feel elated being adored
for their smoking and gambling skills.
Once they serve a host to cancer
friends too won't pay a visit
to see them breathing last in tears.
Their souls will struggle to escape
from the engulfing fumes of cigars
and no more chance for them
to jiggle in bed or giggle in life.
