Early Works - The Victors Have A Ball

Coloured lights shine across the cloister
on the dancers on the floor.
While on the stage a soloist is singing
of life’s lost cord.
In the corner sits a young man
with a moustache on his upper lip
trying so hard to look hip.
While an old, man is saying freedom
with happiness to all.
Let wars die of stagnation
and the victors have a ball.

The silkiness of a wayward light
makes shadows on the door
while creatures in their lustfulness
gather by the hoard.
In the room of bedlam, a young man sits
eating a stick of rock
and breaking it into bits.
While an old, man is saying freedom
with happiness to all.
Let wars die of stagnation
and the victors have a ball.

Date unknown.

Author’s note:
I have a feeling that this bit of nonsense was written in 1967. It is a guess, but because of certain things written in it sounds about right for that era.

Abba Eban

I think that this is the first war in history that on the morrow the victors sued for peace and the vanquished called for unconditional surrender.

Irrelevant

The history we learn at school.
Is mostly untrue as a rule.
A rather biased point of view.
Recorded by the victors who,
in an attempt to justify
their actions are prepared to lie.
The losers cannot air their views
and so we have no chance to choose.
Which version is more accurate.
Which gives me confidence to state.
The rubbish taught as history,
should not be taken seriously
Not only probably untrue
it is distinctly boring too.

An interview for Hangman

'Yes, your qualifications are more than enough,
But you have skipped purposely the mandatory question.
What is your religion? '
He said; 'Humanism'
'There is no religion called on such 'ism'.
'Yes, it's everywhere but nobody aware.'
'Sorry Mr.So & So and we cannot offer you the job unless you fill one of the religions.'
'Then you write down, favoritism Sir.
And I have a dilemma perhaps you may have an answer in your heavy books.
When a person dies if he requests the life once again? '

* I dedicate this poem to my friend the silent songster Denis Joe.

[You conjure a poignant observation of hypocrisy and prejudice which is present in any ism. I especially enjoyed the line of questioning 'ism 'and the arrival of favoritism which is the prevalent ingredient of predominance. History and religion is written and exercised by the victors. You my perspicuous friend are truly a Sage. Your friend, George]

What did we do?

What did we do?
What did we do?
From History it was all Written,
That man must never live to die,
But dieing to live,
Blinding to see,
Christ said of the man that will get the Key's,
I can never change the World,

What are Humanity doing today?
That what was done is going back to History,
The Genius are asking why Humanity is not getting blessed,
I think all things clearly,
God is Real,
Share love Humanity,
Love and Mercy is Worth the Lord's timing,
Merciless is only the Profanity of bad History,
Think of the Conquer,
Love one another just as Christ love's you,
Why deny the throne?
Heaven is where we all Dwell,
The stories that are Beyond Good and Evil came in Parables,
Whilst we Ignore the Word that was Written,
The BOOK live's forever.

Black History Month

In January...
There they are making history.
In February...
There they are making history.
In March...
There they are making history.
In April...
There they are making history.
In May...
There they are making history.
In June...
There they are making history.
In July...
There they are making history.
In August...
There they are making history.
In September...
There they are making history.
In October...
There they are making history.
In November...
There they are making history.
In December...
There they are making history.

But...
It's nice to know
The shortest month of the year
Was chosen to celebrate
The great deeds of African-Americans!
However...
It is those LEAP YEARS,
That really have the blacks jumping for joy!

Take me to History,

Take me to History,
Take me to History and never see the mistakes,
Take me to that Killings,
Moving on silent,
Like I never knew all that I was doing,
It was mine,
That you saw the your’s coming in the World,
It was Written,
That your’s was never taken,

Take me to History,
That you never meant to Kill Christ,
Humanity is going to foolishness in losing one sheep,
Death is gonna be easy cause life is Hard,
Take me to History,
That the Cowards of Truth will never see the son,
Whatsoever Conquers,
Is the son that is never determined to lose?
It ain’t hard to tell,
That the lacing was all black,
The lace was more than never enough,
You are not the dude that is all losing like foolishness.

History why do we care

History
a famous person dies
History
a war rages
History
a new invention
History
a building opens
History
what happens if something happens to me
is that history?
no....
So why do we care.....

Lies are held as truths

History is full of lies,
written by winners.
Scriptures are full of lies,
written by hypocrites.
Epics are full of lies,
written by oppressors
Romances are full of lies,
written by perverts..
These are full of truths,
we are led to believe.

By Those Interested In War History

By those interested in war history war history is read
But the winners write the war history or so it is said
That is how it is and will always be
What is true to one is not to another that's how it seems to me
Of war and war heroes many stories are written and many poems to recite
And mostly of war winners that war writers stories do write
And readers believe what they want to believe
And the mothers of the war dead for their dead children grieve
In war as in life 'tis the winners who count
And the stories of losers to little amount
For the dead war heroes many a parade
And far too many films of war have been made
And 'tis mostly the winners write the war history
That is how it is and always will be.

Carl Sandburg

History is a living horse laughing at a wooden horse. History is a wind blowing where it listeth. History is no sure thing to bet on. History is a box of tricks with a lost key. History is a labyrinth of doors with sliding panels, a book of ciphers with the code in a cave of the Saragossa sea. History says, if it pleases, Excuse me, I beg your pardon, it will never happen again if I can help it.

The History Teacher

Woman!

Where exactly
Did you put me
In the women's history?

Am I History?
Or a part of it?

And for how long you are lacking me in;
Between
Your History,
Women's History, and
Your archives?

Does time make sense to you
As a History teacher or
As a History professor?

Cause', History, buying time, and rejuvenation
Are for emperors.

Are you making me
An emperor?

Or a Faeroe?
If so,
How precise your are?

And if you can't feel my present presence
how possibility could you feel me through your archives?

History Lessons

Notoriously, history books are warm
and bland.
This one is smaller, neatly compacting
years into large print pages.
Somehow, the near coverless book
reappeared from the long, dim
Nun's library, dug up, specifically for
a reprisal of the 1918 Influenza Revisited.

It was a custom to pass out last editions.
A clear out of the aging history Teacher's
Library section.
An acknowledgement of the past
pressed onto a pupil for a masked honor.
Smells of old lockers, chesty
coughs, and fatigue. So many class
smiles and collective ease.

The book holds the marks of many
boys' notes, hen-pecked bits of scratch paper.
History written within history.

The Heroes Of Tureengarriffe

'Tis part of Duhallow and Sliabh Luacra history now how Sean Moylan and his men
Ambushed and inflicted heavy losses on the Black and Tans at Tureengarriffe Glen
Almost three decades before I was even born and all but nine decades ago
Since the heroes of North Cork and East kerry into the status of legends did grow
One thing that can be said of war is that heroes it never does fail to create
And even the victors of the smallest battles we always do see fit to celebrate
The winners write the history of the battles that's how it is and will always be
In the annals of Sliabh Luachra and Duhallow the heroes of Tureengarriffe created their own history
Around the fire-grate when I was a young boy the old men stories of battles told
They took up arms for Irish Independence when they were younger men in days of old
Long past their prime and they had done their fighting but at the end did it matter that much at all
The British left and the civil war then started which gave rise to the birth of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail,
The heroes of Tureengarrife now are resting in their towns and villages in cemeteries far away
Eventually they fell to the scythe of the reaper it can be said of them they had their day.

Rochester Cathedral 2005

Pass by this ancient door and pause
Look upon it very history etched in stone
Wonder at its age and all who stood,
As you are standing now, looking.
The good and great of history
Have passed its portals just like you
Kings and Queens of every age
Have worshiped here, the Christ King.
Sit, be still, as voices young and old
Raise in perfect sound, the alleluia’s
To echo round the vaulted heights.
Kneel and pray as others have
So many times before through history
Evidence of the living God worshiped still.
Here Justus placed his knee in prayer
When all was daub and wattle
The imprint of history remains however
A time line of experience, and calling.
Today its mission written large in stone
To worship the alpha and omega
We see its beginnings, its end?
Is always in the future, waiting.

The Moment (barack Hussain Obama’s Inauguration)

The moment of Obama’s inauguration
Was a fluke of fate written for the nation

It was a moment to be cherished
For all citizens including the perished

It was a moment that brought glory
For abandoning the discriminatory

It was a moment that scribbled in history
And will be every child’s bed-time story

It was a moment that castigated treason
And brought in for the future, a reason

It was a moment that penalized felony
A moment the history foresaw

It was a moment that put an end to racism
Making every black and white equally blossom

It was a moment for the South Africans
A moment that promised the world would awaken

(written for obama, who will bring a change to the world dominating US)
