He gets his passage for nothing and then winks at the captain's wife.

Oh, My Captain
Oh, my Captain, my Captain
Where is that gleam in your eye?
Where is that sting
Whenever your colors fly?
Where is that thirst
for adventure you sail?
Where is that booming voice
Through oak will drive nail?
Oh, my Captain
Where could you be?
Thy gaze crosses
more than the sea
Where is the man
Who knows not any fears?
Who's cheated death
All these long years
Come Captain,
Where is thy cheer?
We sail into eternity
The rest is unclear
Oh Captain, oh Captain
Why such a sad soul?
It's treasure and loot
So much we have stole
Oh, master, my master
We are, and can no more be
Like the birds,
We are free as long as we breathe
Come Captain, my Captain
Give us command
Give 'weigh all the anchors'
Seek ye new harbors with warm golden sand

Lifeboats
The ship sinks.
And the naysayers on it,
Still have not blinked.
Those who praise themselves,
Are seen giving one another winks.
The ship sinks!
And even the captain...
Can not convince them,
Lifeboats have been created...
To enable them to survive and float.
The ship sinks.
And the naysayers on it,
Still have not blinked.
Those who praise themselves,
Are seen giving one another winks.
The ship sinks!
And even the captain...

I Think So.
yes i think so.
it lands.
it stays for a while.
it goes away.
it teases me.
it winks.
it flies away again
it stops
for a while.
it waits.
it winks again.
it dances.
it undresses.
it dresses up again.
it is going anywhere.
it is so beautiful
always from a certain distance.you.

Captain Hook
Captain Hook must remember
Not to scratch his toes.
Captain Hook must watch out
And never pick his nose.
Captain Hook must be gentle
When he shakes your hand.
Captain Hook must be careful
Openin' sardine cans
And playing tag and pouring tea
And turnin' pages of his book.
Lots of folks I'm glad I ain't--
But mostly Captain Hook!

The Captain
Well I don't have as many friends because
I'm not as pretty as I was
I've kicked myself at times because I've lied
So I will have to learn to stand my ground
I'll tell 'em I won't be around
I'll move on over to your town and hide
And you be the Captain
And I'll be no-one
And you can carry me away if you want to
And you can lay low
Just like your father and if
I tread upon your feet you just say so
'Cos you're The Captain

Beeping of alert signal.
Ensign: captain, the transporters ready.
Captain: thats hip. lieutenant marvin, what is the condition
Of the planets surface?
Marvin: it is difficult to be precise. however, my instruments
Indicate a condition of extreme rigor mortis, spreading rapidly
Throughout the population. highly illogical, captain.
Captain: a bunch of stiffs, huh? well, set coordinates for, ah,
Chocolate city, and have a landing party of nine men beam down
Immiediately, with phasers set on funk-funk!

Every little helps to lighten the freight, said the captain, as he threw his wife overboard.
The Captain To His Dear
Farewell to you my dear
Here, I see your smile with glare
On this deck, here I stand
About to sail far from land
Farewell to you my dear
The land is no more near
Waves are now very high
So dark now is the sky
Here is your captain lying
Above these waves arising
Below the dark skies falling
Now your captain's striving
Angrily, the tempest roar
And you captain's far from shore
But your captain keeps believing
Behind the clouds your smile is hiding

Closer To Home / I'm Your Captain
Everybody listen to me
And return me my ship
I'm your captain
I'm your captain
Though I'm feeling mighty sick
I've been lost now for days uncounted
And it's months since I've seen home
Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
Or am I all alone?
If you return me to my home port
I will kiss you Mother Earth
Take me back now
Take me back now
To the port of my birth
(bridge)
Am I in my cabin dreaming?
Or are you really scheming
To take my ship away from me?
You'd better think about it
I just can't live without it
So please don't take my ship from me
I can feel the hand of a stranger
And it's tightening around my throat
Heaven help me
Heaven help me
Take this stranger from my boat
I'm your captain
I'm your captain
Though I'm feeling mighty sick
Everybody listen to me
And return me my ship
I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm your captain
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home (repeat until fade).

The Tearful Tale Of Captain Dan
A sinner was old Captain Dan;
His wives guv him no rest:
He had one wife to East Skiddaw
And one to Skiddaw West.
Now Ann Eliza was the name
Of her at East Skiddaw;
She was the most cantankerous
Female you ever saw.
I don’t know but one crosser-grained,
And of this Captain Dan
She was the wife at Skiddaw West—
She was Eliza Ann.
Well, this old skeesicks, Captain Dan,
He owned a ferryboat;
From East Skiddaw to Skiddaw West
That vessel used to float.
She was as trim a ferry-craft
As ever I did see,
And on each end a p’inted bow
And pilothouse had she.
She had two bows that way, so when
She went acrost the sound
She could, to oncet, run back ag’in
Without a-turnin’ round.
Now Captain Dan he sailed that boat
For nigh on twenty year
Acrost that sound and back ag’in,
Like I have stated here.
And never oncet in all them years
Had Ann Eliza guessed
That Dan he had another wife
So nigh as Skiddaw West.
Likewise, Eliza Ann was blind,
Howas she never saw
As Dan he had another wife
Acrost to East Skiddaw.
The way he fooled them female wives
Was by a simple plan
That come into the artful brain
Of that there Captain Dan.
With paint upon that ferry-craft,
In letters plain to see,
Upon the bow— to wit, both ends—
Her name he painted she.
Upon the bow toward East Skiddaw
This sinful Captain Dan
He painted just one single word—
The same which it was 'Ann';
And on the bow toward Skiddaw West
He likewise put one name,
And not no more; and I will state
'Eliza' was that same.
Thus, when she berthed to Skiddaw West
Eliza Ann could see
How Dan for love and gratitood
Had named her after she;
And likewise when to East Skiddaw
That boat bow-foremost came,
His Ann Eliza plain could see
The vessel bore her name.
Thuswise for nigh on twenty year,
As I remarked before
Dan cumfuscated them two wives
And sailed from shore to shore.
I reckon he might, to this day,
Have kept his sinful ways
And fooled them trustin’ female wives,
Except there come a haze:
It was a thick November haze
Accompanied by frost,
And Dan, in steerin’ ‘crost the sound,
He got his bearin’s lost.
So Dan he cast his anchor out,
And anchored on the sound;
And when the haze riz some next day,
His boat had swung clean round.
So, not bethinkin’ how it was,
Dan steered for Skiddaw West;
For he had sot up all that night,
And shorely needed rest.
Well, when into his ferry-slip
His ferry-craft he ran,
Upon the shore he seen his wife:
To wit, Eliza Ann.
Says he, 'I’ll tie this vessel up
And rest about a week;
I need a rest,' and ‘t was just then
He heard an awful shriek.
'O Villyun!' shrieked Eliza Ann.
'Oh! What—what do I see?
You don’t not love me any more!
You’ve done deserted me!'
She pointed to that ferry-craft
With one wild, vicious stare.
Dan looked and seen the telltale name
Of 'Ann' a-painted there!
What could he do? He done his best!
'Lost! Lost! Alas!' he cried;
And, kicking off his rubber boots,
Jumped overboard—and died!

You're The Captain
I'd crawl a mile,
I'd climb the highest hill.
To bring you back to
A life that's real
You burned your mind out,
With your foolish games
May you lie there helpless,
Will you ever be the same.
You're the captain,
The leader of your ship.
Don't get captured (captured),
Cause you just might never quit.
You're the captain,
I hope you realize,
Don't be a fool,
Better open up your eyes.
I've traveled this world,
I've seen most of it.
I've seen the best ones
Go down with the ship.
Fortune and fame,
They don't mean a thing.
When you're hooked on junk,
That's your only game.
You're the captain,
The leader of your ship.
Don't get captured (captured),
Cause you just might never quit.
You're the captain,
I hope you realize,
Don't be a fool,
Better open up your eyes.
Just a part of life,
That we all must go through.
Gettin' high with friends,
Was all in being cool.
Hope you never see, this misery.
A prisoner by drugs
With no right to be free.
You're the captain,
The leader of your ship.
Don't get captured (captured),
Cause you just might never quit.
You're the captain,
I hope you realize,
Don't be a fool,
Better open up your eyes.
You're the captain,
The leader of your ship.
Don't get captured (captured),
Cause you just might never quit.
You're the captain,
I hope you realize,
Don't be a fool,
Better open up your eyes.

Narrow Passage
There's a narrow passage
that brings you back home.
You travel it slowly
like a rambling poem
that doesn't know where it's going
but word after word without really knowing
it reaches its destination.
To try and look back
and see the passage again
is obscured from your sight
as the word is from the pen.
Home is where you're headed
and when you arrive
you realize the passage
is what kept you alive.
To me, my passage
is tied up in every word
that starts with my thinking
and finally becomes heard.
I know that when I'm finished
with all I have to say
I'll find my home at last
on that narrow passageway.

I'm Your Captain
Grand Funk Railroad
Mark Farner
The tune that is remembered as "Closer To Home", is actually labeled "I'm
Your Captain" on both the album sleeve and record label. It is from the
album "Closer To Home", released by Grand Funk Railroad in June of 1970.
Everybody,
listen to me,
and return me, my ship.
I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
though I'm feeling mighty sick.
I've been lost now,
days uncounted,
and it's months since,
I've seen home.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
or am I all alone?
If you return me,
to my home port,
I will kiss you,
mother earth.
Take me back now, take me back now,
to the port, of my birth.
Am I in my cabin dreaming,
or are you really scheming,
to take my ship away from me.
You'd better think about it,
I jsut can't live without it,
so please don't take my ship from me.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I can feel the hand,
of a stranger,
and it tightening,
around my throat.
Heaven help me, heaven help me,
take this stranger, from my boat.
I'm your captain, I'm your captain,
though I'm feeling mighty sick.
Everybody, listen to me,
and return me, my ship,
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm getting closer to my home.
I'm getting closer to my home.

Captain Void n The Video Jets
(ian hunter)
Captain to candida - we just hit earth
Everyones strange here - dont know what theyre worth
Got this idea - were gonna be machines
Well play a part in their imaginary dreams
Say hi - hi - hi
Have you ever stopped to figure out why
Were captain void n the video jets
Go go get - go go get
Your captain void n the video jets
Were the original space cadets
Captain to candida - were spreading fast
Theyre watchin us - watching them throught the glass
We got them hypnotized - under our control
Were nearly ready to put the world on hold
Say hi - hi - hi
Have you ever stopped to figure out why
Were captain void n the video jets
Place your bets - place your bets
On captain void n the video jets
We hide inside your t.v. set
We dont hit lovers - we leave them alone
We just hit children who rot in their homes
Something is happening
Now mr. jones just touch me (cmon)
Turn me on!

The Captain
Now the captain called me to his bed
He fumbled for my hand
Take these silver bars, he said
Im giving you command.
Command of what, theres no one here
Theres only you and me --
All the rest are dead or in retreat
Or with the enemy.
Complain, complain, thats all youve done
Ever since we lost
If its not the crucifixion
Then its the holocaust.
May christ have mercy on your soul
For making such a joke
Amid these hearts that burn like coal
And the flesh that rose like smoke.
I know that you have suffered, lad,
But suffer this awhile:
Whatever makes a soldier sad
Will make a killer smile.
Im leaving, captain, I must go
Theres blood upon your hand
But tell me, captain, if you know
Of a decent place to stand.
There is no decent place to stand
In a massacre;
But if a woman take your hand
Go and stand with her.
I left a wife in tennessee
And a baby in saigon --
I risked my life, but not to hear
Some country-western song.
Ah but if you cannot raise your love
To a very high degree,
Then youre just the man Ive been thinking of --
So come and stand with me.
Your standing days are done, I cried,
Youll rally me no more.
I dont even know what side
We fought on, or what for.
Im on the side thats always lost
Against the side of heaven
Im on the side of snake-eyes tossed
Against the side of seven.
And Ive read the bill of human rights
And some of it was true
But there wasnt any burden left
So Im laying it on you.
Now the captain he was dying
But the captain wasnt hurt
The silver bars were in my hand
Pinned them to my shirt.

Acrobatics
As Berlin they put up a Paradise Wall
Because the escapees are much more
Than earlier to hell as it seems the standard of living there goes high.
When we sing together myself & Beloved
I noticed the Captain's marveled! '
This year is going to be finished very soon
And I think of the Senior Citizenship.
They say at the age of Sixty five
You're qualified for the Knighthood here!
I dream If I get the oath
With my beloved I do a round trip
Around the fabulous World!
And I'll speak to the Captain of the ship 'Tsunami'
That I go as a working passenger
And my beloved makes tasty soups
As same as spicy foods.
*Also she could sing well
And I do my usual strumming on Banjo!
If Captain asks 'Can you dance? '
I will tell him; Sorry Captain I could do only acrobatics
Which I learned from different politicians! '

Winter (parody)
(with apologies to fanie olivier)
Already early in May you can feel the wind gallop,
it is already cutting icily from twelve o’clock
and blows sand
leaves and old plastic bags sky-high.
Across the street the neighbour’s drain is overflowing
and sewerage flows along at the end of the yard,
while the other neighbour’s wife forwardly winks at me
and she’s a flamboyant girl,
her husband is well built and somewhat angry
and she has got a teenage daughter, who draws attention like her mother,
dressing at times somewhat nakedly,
while the neighbour comforts himself with bottles of brandy,
sometimes wanting to know about his wife’s wiles from me,
when I see pain and grief eating at him.
