Good repute is like the cypress: once cut, it never puts forth leaf again.

Ode to the bird in the cypress tree
Ode to the bird in the cypress tree
~
I wish to be like the bird in the cypress tree
shaded from the heat of the midday sun
yet still free to ride upon the ocean breeze
whenever it chooses to blow from time to time
I wish to be like the bird in the cypress tree
and chirp my own little song aloud to the world
or to fly amongst the clouds so high above
and look down to watch the world below
I wish to be like the bird in the cypress tree
for all my wishes and day bought dreams
I am here and I am still me writing a poem
about that lucky bird perched in the cypress tree

Relaxation Of A Native Woman
the night is very cold here
on top of Mt. Malindang
the old woman sits on the ground
(there are no chairs here)
puts her arm on her knee
and begins to roll a
leaf which she dried under
the sun the whole day
she tears a small portion of the tobacco leaf
rolls it on the other leaf and then she
lights the roll on the gas lamp
she puffs her smoke
to the moon.
everyone understands
what silence is all about
there are no more stories
from exhausted bodies
the souls are rested
on top of wilted grass
and then everybody is
fast asleep
for tomorrow's same work.
i am new here and i
am beginning to understand
what is this big mountain
all about?
why is it here
and why the people are not
at all complaining?

The face and shyness
A graceful face is enough
To attract a man of repute.
Revealing posture will retract.
A woman must retain enough sigh
To draw in a man of repute.
Liberality will retract.

Woman Is Fed By Men's Eyes
Woman is thirsty to be beautiful.
She gets fed when men turn their eyes on her.
On looks rather than for stomach, she spends
And falls a prey to anything fancy.
For her feminine desirability,
Not denying this, she puts her efforts.
By attracting men, she attracts herself.
Under her rouge, she gets her confidence.
It is her asset to have men at their feet.
It is her repute to keep them at bay.
No woman desists from being ogled
By men, no matter what rank they fall to.

If you would be in good repute, let not the sun find you in bed.
Hand on the Glock
cypress hill
cypress hill
cypress hill
Crusing through the neighborhood
Some say I'm no good
Claimin I'm a criminal
But lets make it understood
Just one man man with a whole lot of homeboys (whole lot)
Ya get the click of the glock
When I pull of the chrome toy
Check me and I'll check you back (check you back)
Then jump back
to my big Buddah
like I'm not a bad guy
But don't take advantage
I'm throwin out the garbage
just show me where the can is
All I was doin was searchin for the boon
Then some punk tried to hit me with a broom
Lucky I ducked quick
Or else I'd be assed up
Last thing I wanted
was have to pull the gatt out
here comes a nigga
And he's got a .38
Well my roundhouse said
hey yo
I'm shootin up straight
Cuz I put away the shotgun
borrow me a glock
Took a liitle trip to the funky weed spot
tried to jack me
but home got shot
la-la-la-lalala-la!
Understand where I'm commin from
Self defense turns to the offense

In the white collar
In the white collar
Of the lowly sparrow
Puts me to mind of the priest
And the flying nun
I use to watch on b & w t v
T V outs me to mind
Patty Duke
And the twins
My sister and brother
Family raised in a cruel year
My brother puts me to mind
Of the men I call family
The gays met at the bar
The bar puts me to mind
Of the men I took home
Just for once for a night of joy
Joy puts me to mind
Of the time I expressed with setime puts me to mind
That now I am old
And self assured
In the way I go.

Ch 08 On Rules For Conduct In Life - Maxim 81
A sage was asked: ‘Of so many notable, high and fertile trees which God the most high has created, not one is called free, except the cypress, which bears no fruit. What is the reason of this?’ He replied: ‘Every tree has its appropriate season of fruit, so that it is sometimes flourishing therewith, and looks sometimes withered by its absence; with the cypress, however, neither is the case, it being fresh at all times, and this is the quality of those who are free.’
Place not thy heart on what passes away; for the Tigris
Will flow after the Khalifs have passed away in Baghdad.
If thou art able, be liberal like the date tree,
And if thy hand cannot afford it, be liberal like the cypress.
Good Conversation
Everybody's so mixed up about love these days
And everybody's trying to work it out in different ways
I don't really need to know your aspirations
What I need from you babe
Is good conversation
To put my mind at ease
An old friend called the other day
And wasn't quite sure what to say
Didn't seem to know me anymore
And I said
Don't treat me like I'm someone new
I'm still the same one you used to talk to
But all I need from you friend
Is good conversation
Is good conversation
To put my mind at ease
Though It seems as if the world has come between us
And our lives don't look the same
Though in the past you have shared all my happiness
Will you be there to share the pain
Everyday I'm surrounded by
A million voices from the sky
And they all have the same thing to say
Now what I need is something new
Is it something you can do
To share in that kind
Of good conversation
Is good conversation
That puts my mind at ease
Puts my mind at ease
yeah baby
(all I need is)
(all I)
Woah yeah
(all I)
(all I)
(all I need is)
Is it my iniagination
(all I)
And can you see my frustration
(all I)
I don't need admiration
(all I)
But I'm trying to be patient
What I'm looking for
(all I)
Is good conversation
(all I)
(all I need is)
Is it imy imagination
(all I)
Could it be my destination
(all I)
And what I'm looking for
(all I)
is good conversation
(all I need is)
And what i'm asking for
(all I)
is good conversation
(all I)
To put my mind at ease

A Flower To Auroville Mother-83
Mayilmannikkam(Cypress Vine,
Ipomoea quamoclit)
Tiny trumpets twinkling
Pink and red and white
Feathery leaves fanning
Charmed humming' respite
And I can have her annual
Seeds she thence to seedling
Thence in cycles perennial
Lo, divine Cypress dappling

The Gardener
WITHIN this garden space are set
Sweet mignonette and violet,
Sunk in rich mould; at dawn and night
Their leaves dew-wet.
Who set them in the kindly loam
Lies buried 'neath the clover-foam
Of alien meadows, far away
From his loved home.
If it be glory thus to pass
For Honour's sake, and 'neath the grass
Red-wounded lie, then he, in truth,
Great glory has.
Yet, blossoms that he loved and set! —
Sweet mignonette, sweet violet —
Not Honour's self, nor Glory's crown,
Can stay regret.
'Twixt bud of leaf and fall of leaf,
Why should Fate in an hour so brief
Wreck flower and flower, and nurse alone
The cypress — Grief?
He is not gone — not all of him;
For trees have memories; leaf and limb
Shall breathe his name, and grateful flowers
At twilight dim.
For like these blooms, he left behind
Some fragrance, subtle and refined —
A memoried sweetness that shall haunt
Tree, flower and wind.

The basis on which good repute in any highly organized industrial community ultimately rests is pecuniary strength; and the means of showing pecuniary strength, and so of gaining or retaining a good name, are leisure and a conspicuous consumption of goods.

Old things are always in good repute, present things in disfavor.
Obstacle 1
I wish I could eat the salt off of your lost faded lips
We can cap the old times, make playing only logical harm
We can cap the old lines, make playing that nothing else will change
But she can ray, she can ray, she can ray, she can ray, she's bad
She can ray, she can ray, she can ray, she's bad
Oh, she's bad
But it's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this face again
You go stabbing yourself in the neck
And we can find new ways of living make playing only logical harm
And we can top the old times, clay-making that nothing else will change
But she can ray, she can ray, she can ray, she can ray, she's bad
She can ray, she can ray, she can ray, she's bad
Oh, she's bad
It's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this place again
You go stabbing yourself in the neck
But it's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this place again
And you go stabbing yourself in the neck
It's in the way that she posed, it's in the things that she puts in my head
Her stories are boring and stuff, she's always calling my bluff
She puts, she puts the weights into my little heart
And she gets in my room and she takes it apart
She puts the weights into my little heart
I said she puts the weights into my little heart
She packs it away
It's in the way that she walks
Her heaven is never enough
She puts the weights in my heart
She puts, oh she puts the weights into my little heart

Sweetness
She brings the sunshine to a rainy afternoon;
She puts the sweetness in, stirs it with a spoon.
She watches for my moods, never brings me down;
She puts the sweetness in, all around.
She knows just what to say to make me feel so good inside.
And when Im all alone I feel I dont want to hide, hide, hide.
Today she brought me in, told me where shed been;
She put my mind at rest, put the sweetness in.
Ill ask her for some time to go and look around;
She puts the sweetness in with a sound.
She knows just what to say to make a sunny day.
And when Im all alone I really dont feel that way.
Tell me, how would you feel with no world
Of your own and nobody to hold?
I just cant see the way; Im so glad its today
And youre here, youre here.
She brings the sunshine to a rainy afternoon;
She puts the sweetness in, stirs it with a spoon.
She watches for my moods, never brings me down;
She puts the sweetness in, all around.
She knows just what to say to make me feel so good inside.
And when Im all alone I really dont feel that way.
Oh how I need her so,
I know shell never go. doo doo doo doot n doo.
Shell never leave me, believe me, no. doo doo doo doot n doo.
Shell never go, no no no no no no no no no no no no.

Fall to Earth
The stubborn little Maple leaf
held on when all its fellows fled.
They carpeting the ground beneath
a vast lushscape of gold and red.
Leaf held on through wind and rain,
the last survivor of its race.
Leaf held on past Turkey day
maintaining there its pride of place.
Then Leaf grew lonely, I suppose-
Like the summer's final rose.
Leaf envied then the flakes of snow
Who fluttered past to their repose.
Then, just as winter came to call,
Leaf felt a tug and then a snap.
Flying, tumbling on the winds
Fall to Earth. Fade to black.
