Why Ist It That Way?
Artists who draw cartoons are cartoonists
Musicians who play bassoons, are bassoon-ists
Players of violins are violinists-flute players flutists
Then why aren’t drummers drum-ists?
Could the writer of Haiku be a Haiku-ist
Or the rider of a bike a bike-u-ist?
Why are linguists not language-ists
Or photographers photo-ists?
Who conjures these very English-isty rules list?
Most probably an English lingu-isty fool-ist

Gone
THE last, late guest
To the gate we followed;
Goodbye -- and the rest
The night-wind swallowed.
House, garden, street,
Lay tenfold gloomy,
Where accents sweet
Had made music to me.
It was but a feast
With the dark coming on;
She was but a guest --
And now, she is gone.

The Call
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life :
Such a Way, as gives us breath :
Such a Truth, as ends all strife :
And such a Life, as killeth death.
Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength :
Such a Light, as shows a feast :
Such a Feast, as mends in length :
Such a Strength, as makes his guest.
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart :
Such a Joy, as none can move :
Such a Love, as none can part :
Such a Heart, as joyes in love.

The delicacy of the feast is the learned guest.
A gloomy guest fits not a wedding feast.

M: II: I Cannot Pay your Honour
I have sought to triumph over nothing,
have tri-ed,
have failed to -umph.
Honour is paid
By accepting honour.
By accepting honour,
I would honour trying,
would honour lack of -umph.
I cannot pay your honour.

From Where Shall I Greatness Buy?
Mom tells me to finish my homework quickly,
When I ask why? , she tells me
“You should become great as great as your dad”.
When I ask, where is my dad Mom?
She tells me, “He is now god’s guest.”
Again when I ask Mom,
“Can I not become great by being the god’s guest”?
She slaps me gently and tells me,
“Now just shut up and get your homework done”.
Little later when I ask she says,
“Your Dad fought like a tiger,
risking his life, he never bothered.
His gun has brought him greatness
and the honour of being the god’s guest.
Again when I ask,
“Do people become great when they fight”?
If so, I will beat in the school,
My friend Philip, with my might.”
Now, Mom calls me stupid and gives me a push.
Crying I go to sleep in her lap,
Now she says, “Tomorrow I will
give you pocket money for ice-cream”.
Wiping my eyes when I ask,
Mom! ”Can I by saving pocket money,
try greatness buy”?
Tell Mom, “From where shall I greatness buy”?
She tells, “Oh god help me”
and begins to cry.

What Shall I Do For the Land that Bred Me
What shall I do for the land that bred me,
Her homes and fields that folded and fed me?—
Be under her banner and live for her honour:
Under her banner I’ll live for her honour.
CHORUS. Under her banner live for her honour.
Not the pleasure, the pay, the plunder,
But country and flag, the flag I am under—
There is the shilling that finds me willing
To follow a banner and fight for honour.
CH. We follow her banner, we fight for her honour.
Call me England’s fame’s fond lover,
Her fame to keep, her fame to recover.
Spend me or end me what God shall send me,
But under her banner I live for her honour.
CH. Under her banner we march for her honour.
Where is the field I must play the man on?
O welcome there their steel or cannon.
Immortal beauty is death with duty,
If under her banner I fall for her honour.
CH. Under her banner we fall for her honour.

I ended up living at OJ's because Nicole bought a home that no longer had a guest house. OJ offered his guest house to me. Anybody in LA looking for a place knows the best places to live are guest houses.

To Succeed With Honour
the will to honour win
to succeed with honour
to sacrifice for honour
is worth in excess
of 24 carat gold
an attitude not to be sold

The Guest Is 'Trouble
There is a guest and a host
child and servant,
eternity and vanity,
The guest is trouble.
In sickness, health is the host
he gives way to sickness
that the power of truth is depicted
the guest is 'trouble'
In pain, comfort is the host
who concedes the pain
that the vanity of darkness is depicted
the guest is 'trouble'
In death, life is the host
who gives way to death
that the power of resurrection is shown
the guest is 'trouble'
Life is eternal, death is a moment.
health is a fruit, sickness is a leaf
that falls from a tree of life.
They soon wither and waste away.
Be strong, it's not too long
the guest will leave.
and the host will have it all
The guest is 'trouble'

Xetz
The wedding feast,
One went to his farm and another to his business;
But the wedding was furnished with the guest from Xetz,
And like your body language to your lover last night.
Let the great among you be as a servant to all!
Because if a seed is sown and not watered, it dies;
And try to humble yourself to me always.

Present at the Feast (Praia, Cape Verde,1983)
The family battalions massed nearby
Waving their napkins of white lace
At the heat, around the flies
That hung above the pig's glazed head
The salads, Cachupa and rice
The diverse plates, upon display
For clearly a sufficient time
To leave impression on the guests,
Removed again, we took our seats
The paterfamilias rose to his feet
Looked across to me (accusingly?) -
Young stranger, long of hair and pale
And began to take aside his girl
Mother took his elbow urgently
And whispered to him in commanding style
So every single guest could hear:
'Sta passionado cu Zaza! '
And even if not quite accurate
My social shame was now complete.
I slipped down to the humid street
While up above the empty stores
They displayed the little feast once more
To honour Zaza and womanhood
As African breezes fled the sea
To play in her dark curly hair
And but for a glimpse, at the post office
From the far side of the plateau square
That was all of her I would ever see
No other messenger would bring
Invitations from her family.

But also, the guest workers program, it's quite often misused, meaning people could come in as part of a guest workers program and after two weeks in the fields, they'd run off to do every other kind of job that isn't covered by a guest workers program.

Awards are bought
‘Sir, this issue, we want to publish
about you. Please send your write up
along with a bank cheque, please..’
‘Sir, this year you inaugurate the festival
and bear the expenditure’
‘We like to honour you with the best actor award.
How much can you contribute, sir.’
‘Madam, can you meet the chief in his guest house.
You are likely to get foreign assignment.’
Where you are, not how you came, matters
Rewards are not built on merits.

The Fly
The Fly lurks around putrid matter
and delights in savouring human waste.
The dis-tasteful things we love to hate
satisfy his insatiable taste
for foul smelling things that are better
cast in the bin from our very sight.
He does not savour anything right,
he comes to dine without our request
for he is the most unpleasant guest
to find at the table when we feast.

Feast To Eat And Enjoy
Feast!
So delicious are these offerings,
For only you prepared.
Feast and eat.
Until your heart is contented.
Relax.
And take the weight off your feet.
Unbridled and free,
From each and every discourse presented.
Whether disguised in debated argument or not,
To undermine your dining done.
With purposes to have that stopped.
Feast!
So delicious are these offerings,
For only you prepared.
Be daring and selective,
As it is your wish to nourish...
Upon that which feeds your encouragement.
Feast to eat and enjoy.
Nothing tasted to you presented,
Has been created to disappoint, displease...
Or leave you to become agitated or annoyed.

Treat your guest as a guest for two days -- then on the third day give him a hoe.
Treat your guest as a guest for two days; on the third day, give him a hoe.
Guest
Guest came and returned back
I am unlucky not able to know
And slept.
Guest came and returned back
I lost all the beauty and richness
That I have kept.
Guest came and returned back.
