Marriage. It's a hard term to define. Especially for me--I've ducked it like root canal. Still there's no denying the fact that marriage ranks right up there with birth and death as one of the three biggies in the human safari. It's the only one though that we'll celebrate with a conscious awareness. Very few of you remember your arrival and even fewer of you will attend your own funeral.

On Marriage

Pessimistic views: :
Marriage is a gamble!
Marriage is a punishment;
Marriage is an evil that
Most can’t but accept.

Optimistic views:
Marriage is a gift of God;
Marriage is a blessing;
Marriage is an enjoyment,
We make the best of it.

Truths:
Marriage is so wonderful;
Marriage is so fulfilling;
Marriage is so wholesome;
Marriage is an endless love,
More priceless than all wealth!

Marriage is a way of life;
Marriage is so natural;
Marriage is the better way,
For two, to reach Heaven.

What makes a marriage?

It has been almost forty years
Since we had taken our marriage
Vows. Yes, we are still together.
I guess that means something today

Considering most never last
More than, I suspect, a few years;
Sometimes I can understand why
Marriage is not a piece of cake.

In the beginning all is fine
Everything is brand spanking new
But that finish dulls quite quickly.
That moment after the “I do’s”

The gravity of the marriage
Begins to materialize.
Vowing for better or for worse
Were just words uttered thoughtlessly.

Like reciting a bedtime prayer
Never actually listening
To each word we recite by rote
The truth is, marriage is both words

“Better” is a relative term:
What could be considered better
For me would not necessarily
Be the same view held by my wife.

Therefore we are both compromised
And there’s the rub of the matter.
Marriage is a balancing act
That’s between better and the worse.

Learn the knack of juggling the two
The marriage will certainly last.
In those years we’ve become a team
And we’re both still madly in love.

At the Altar

Now to take away your life –
Devour your soul afresh upon
The birth of every dawning day
– The spawn of sun and earth –
As of the way Prometheus lost hepatic flesh –
He stole fire! You stole gropes
And f*cks of me; so suffer thee!

Oh yes, perspire! Drizzle down the beads
Upon that crimson, blotchy skin –
I see the once cocksure pose, my man,
Is wearing terribly thin.

Indeed, an absence of repose
Discloses thumping in your chest –
Irregularly rhythmic – like the humping
(When you thought I was a body to molest) .

No more! my little man, for I shall wrest
The living essence from your
Paling, quivering form! –

You’ve had your gentle calm
Before the rumblings of the storm!

Oh what a gift

Marriage
A union initiated
By father
Of heavens above
Designed
To perpetuate human race
Marriage
Oh what a gift

Prosper
For sure it will
If only
Its parties, it respect
With each one
A role to play
In endeavoring
To make it grow
Marriage
Oh what a gift

"To cherish
To honor and love
In sickness
And health as well
Till death do us part."
So they say.
Like a chameleon
Abandon it they do
Like a mother
Who her child forsakes
Marriage
Oh what a gift

Its initiator
Hurts at heart
When he sees
Millions abused
For to him
A life engagement it is
Marriage
A gift so rare

Wife to Be (Petrarchan Sonnet)

I stroll along a fragrant country lane
With honeysuckle perfume on the air -
And feathered crooner's warble to revere -
Then cross a golden sea of flowing grain
In empathy - it seems to sense my pain
Of knowing all was done with my affair -
Her empty meaning now the solitaire
She cast away - betrothment all in vain.
But oceans team with many fish to catch
So I must up and hoist another sail
And seek the one that really waits for me,
For soon auspicious breezes will prevail
In guiding forth to find a truer match:
The one to take my hand as wife to be.

God's Curse (pt.1)

marriage is a prison
from which theres no escape
there is no door
windows are covered by drapes

marriage is a hell
living with a devil for all eternity
nothing but darkness
cannot find quiet serenity

marriage steals your life
takes away your soul
kills your spirit
buries you in a deep dark hole

marriage is Gods curse
its worse than living
compared to this thing called marriage
death is more forgiving

A marriage of two

A marriage of two
is for love that is true

A marriage of two
is always something new

A marriage of two
happens sometimes out of the blue

A marriage of two
is worth it when its due

A marriage of two
is a marriage of trust
Many can find themselves lost
It can be an expensive cost

They are only very few
who have a clue
of when love accrues

A marriage of two
is about love making
It is not about
money raking

A marriage of two
can be bad
A marriage of two
can be sad
You should only be glad if
A marriage of two
is for love that is true

Is marriage a forced......i

Is marriage a forced prostitution?
Or part of noble institution?
Why there be irrelevant question?
Or even stress and specific mention,

When tied a nuptial knot,
No question of no or not,
After so many wrangles fought,
Beautiful creature in vision is caught,

Many argue it is decided in heaven,
Not facing odds but some situation also even,
When marriage is over, happy ending then,
Question arises how to begin new life and when,

Initial days pass with happiness and joy,
To keep bride happy all tactics employ,
Each passing of day may add happiness or gloom,
Flowers also may fade after initial boom,

When wife starts distancing self,
All utensils make noise in shelf,
Soon to realize reality and gravity of situation,
Days may be over marking end of infatuation,

With issue of one or two more kids,
Most of the time spent on feeds,
Slackness in relation emerge to surface,
Wife may feel as if going near to furnace,

All this lead to scuffle and unrest,
Real time comes when relation to test,
All try to avoid and keep it as best,
Everything now done is at their behest,

Legal pundits say marriage can be termed,
Forced prostitution may be but can’t be named,
Court may term it as torture and atrocity,
Life can be in doldrums and not remain as continuity,

Whether willing or unwilling she has to submit,
Though not to liking but surrender and admit,
But it is long and painful debate,
Matter should end and nothing more to relate,

The Kiss ……………….

Words were unable to explain
the darkness of unholy marriage,
of terror with chrysanthemum.
And bullet did not know the target
it flew on command to kill the smell of a man.

My song now hangs like a dirty laundry
on the wall of peace.
Death of green eyes, must come in few days.
The lamps will mourn for the light.

I wonder sometimes, when time comes
How I will kiss the death
And how death will embrace me.

bondage for men

tomorrow we shall grow
to always remember
our boyish days

New Generation Marriage Vows Are Gone

New generation marriage vows are gone (11/2/11)

This is the first day of your new life
This is the day you chose to be his wife.
You both feel that your love is strong enough
That a marriage you could share
And for each other you would always be there.

A marriage are vows that are made to each other
That you will always “ love one another”.
You say you will love each other until death do you part
Is it what you feel? Is it really in your heart?

The vows of marriage has changed drastically
Marriage is not - what it used to be.
Fear of the unknown has changed the way you think
Six out of ten marriages are now on the brink.

Living common law is now the new rage
They don’t want to feel like they’re
Locked up in a cage.
It’s easy to walk away from a relationship
If there are no vows.
And if there’s any children, they’ll survive somehow.

We don’t need a marriage certificate to
Have a sexual affair.
We can change partners, and different beds we can share.

This is the thinking of the youth of today
All our teachings and values have all gone astray.

Marriage Fears (Pidgin Version)

Marriage!
You yan am, my heart race
A lady 24/7 look my face
Na me go dey plead her case
Now my uniform go be lace
I never wan crase
Neva need someone, unlike Faze

Marriage!
You yan am, some go feel rage
For this age
Make I put myself for cage
Even Solo wey just engage
Don dey seek another page
Thier love tank no dey gree gauge

Marriage!
You yan am, some go rake
What if the geshi na fake
And no dey quick wake
What if she no sabi bake
24/7 go be corn flakes
What if her mouth no get brake
You go drown me for lake

Marriage!
whoever yan am, Charlie go hate
If no be for Kate
Hin broda Jo for never late
Jo ego, she deflate
Maybe because her Papa na magistrate
Na she dey dictate

Marriage!
Yan am, some go start to pray
Make dem no go be prey
All the money dem go need pay
Before dem release the geshi hin way
Later later, she fit runaway
With Chief wey get better pay

Marriage!
Yan am, some go lie flat
Abeg God light my path
Make us tight even if we start with mat
Make we no dey fight because one of us fat
Make our love pass body parts
We no one be like cat and rat
We bind tit for tat

Marriage!
Guy, dem yan am, your heart no suppose race
Neva think of am as a cage
No bobo or geshi be fake
If only una go well relate
But, you go need pray
Make God light una path.

Love You To Death

Marriage isn't always black and white
It is on this subject I feel I must write
Sometimes it's black and blue
Like it was that night
The night of their first fight
'For better or for worse'
Things were so much better at first
She feels the worse is yet to come
But better days...
She hopes there will be some
'To have and to hold'
Behind those walls he could be so cold
Marriage isn't always black and white
Sometimes it isn't even right
Even when you try with all your might
Because sometimes it's red
As red as the blood she bled
The blood she bled from her stubborn head
'From this day foward'
She tried to understand the love he had for her
and the hell she had to endure
'Til death do you part'
I know she loved him with all her heart
She gave her blood and her tears
And told no one of her fears
Right up to her very last breath
When she finally let him love her to death
