As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly.

When The Poem Returns Life Returns
WHEN THE POEM RETURNS LIFE RETURNS
When the poem returns life returns
There is enthusiasm and exuberance again
There is something to live for
And dreams are dreams
And hopes give hope-
When the poem returns life returns
And I begin again here
As if there is some sense after all
In writing and living again.

Kelle
Wantonness,
To wallow again in the mine;
And like a dog that returns to its own vomit.
Wallow, callow, fallow, hallow, mallow, sallow, tallow;
I am Kelle in the land of your muse,
But do remember to keep the black pot always clean.

Rap
early morn
the poet rises.
Words at night
that had no rap
reveal at dawn
surprises.
Melody returns.
Dimmed by days advance,
song returns to morning,
words begin to dance.

Tell Me Something I Dont Know
Sun going up,
Making its rounds
It keeps on moving,
Painting the town
Before you know it,
Shes sinking low
So tell me something . . .
Something I dont already know
I dont know?
Toward the south,
Then turning north
Whirlwind spinning,
On a circular course
The answer my friend,
Returns to blow
So tell me something . . .
Something I dont already know
I dont know?
Tell me something
I dont know?
As for the wise men who pursue
Their knowledge
Same as the fool, free falling
Prey to folly
Can only one fate befall
Them both
So tell me something . . .
Chorus
If every song been sung,
Under the sun
Whats left for me then,
Eat drink and have fun
It must go on, as for the show
So tell me something . . .

Ballade Of Autumn
We built a castle in the air,
In summer weather, you and I,
The wind and sun were in your hair, -
Gold hair against a sapphire sky:
When Autumn came, with leaves that fly
Before the storm, across the plain,
You fled from me, with scarce a sigh -
My Love returns no more again!
The windy lights of Autumn flare:
I watch the moonlit sails go by;
I marvel how men toil and fare,
The weary business that they ply!
Their voyaging is vanity,
And fairy gold is all their gain,
And all the winds of winter cry,
'My Love returns no more again!'
Here, in my castle of Despair,
I sit alone with memory;
The wind-fed wolf has left his lair,
To keep the outcast company.
The brooding owl he hoots hard by,
The hare shall kindle on thy hearth-stane,
The Rhymer's soothest prophecy,--
My Love returns no more again!
ENVOY.
Lady, my home until I die
Is here, where youth and hope were slain:
They flit, the ghosts of our July,
My Love returns no more again!

Whoever goes to Palermo and doesn't see Monreale, goes there a jackass and returns a fool.
Tell Me That Love Returns
Tell me that love returns
to break the silent waves of pain;
those large imperious waves of pain
in the vast ocean of sorrow.
Tell me that love returns
to catch the falling stars;
those bright imperious sparks of stars
withing the vast sky of sorrow.
Tell me that love returns
to mend this broken heart;
this shattered, broken, wounded heart
in the vast soul of sorrow.

Theocracy
Denial comes in handy
Responsibility is ugly
But the rule always stands
What comes up goes down.
What man sows, he reaps.
All good returns with good
In the end we come to grip
To where our actions stood.
Evil returns the poison
Corrupting the character
Robbing man of reason
And ushers in disaster.

We Go On In Unknown Ways To Ourselves
WE GO ON IN UNKNOWN WAYS TO OURSELVES
We go on in unknown ways to ourselves
A poet may be
Days and months and even years
Without poetry.
When Poetry returns to us
It is a holiday inside
Suddenly one is alive again
The words of feeling come.
When Poetry returns to us
We begin to be again
Oh life without poetry is not Love
And life in Poetry is.

When He Returns
The iron hand it aint no match for the iron rod,
The strongest wall will crumble and fall to a mighty god.
For all those who have eyes and all those who have ears
It is only he who can reduce me to tears.
Dont you cry and dont you die and dont you burn
For like a thief in the night, hell replace wrong with right
When he returns.
Truth is an arrow and the gate is narrow that it passes through,
He unleashed his power at an unknown hour that no one knew.
How long can I listen to the lies of prejudice?
How long can I stay drunk on fear out in the wilderness?
Can I cast it aside, all this loyalty and this pride?
Will I ever learn that therell be no peace, that the war wont cease
Until he returns?
Surrender your crown on this blood-stained ground, take off your mask,
He sees your deeds, he knows your needs even before you ask.
How long can you falsify and deny what is real?
How long can you hate yourself for the weakness you conceal?
Of every earthly plan that be known to man, he is unconcerned,
Hes got plans of his own to set up his throne
When he returns.

Folly
(For A. K. K.)
What distant mountains thrill and glow
Beneath our Lady Folly's tread?
Why has she left us, wise in woe,
Shrewd, practical, uncomforted?
We cannot love or dream or sing,
We are too cynical to pray,
There is no joy in anything
Since Lady Folly went away.
Many a knight and gentle maid,
Whose glory shines from years gone by,
Through ignorance was unafraid
And as a fool knew how to die.
Saint Folly rode beside Jehanne
And broke the ranks of Hell with her,
And Folly's smile shone brightly on
Christ's plaything, Brother Juniper.
Our minds are troubled and defiled
By study in a weary school.
O for the folly of the child!
The ready courage of the fool!
Lord, crush our knowledge utterly
And make us humble, simple men;
And cleansed of wisdom, let us see
Our Lady Folly's face again.

Hopelessness Is The Hell That Always Returns
HOPELESSNESS IS THE HELL THAT ALWAYS RETURNS
Hopelessness is the hell that always returns-
We try to dream our way out
We fight with small ordering actions
That tell us we can still move-
We seek to find our way in work
And flow in it –
Small conversations may help-
We seek to be suddenly be lifted up by
Surprising perceptions of nature’s beauty –
Though we know
Love the only true answer.
But hopelessness never dies
It comes back again and again
Older and weaker our power to resist is less-
Just this morning lost in hopelessness
I thought all was lost
And now here I am
Trying to quite weakly
write my way out of it
yet again.

When the Wind Returns
a soft strong voice called me,
a voice i'd heard before
but couldnt quite remember...
and my spirit rose from my body,
and left through the bedroom window
without looking back...
there is a space beyond the stars
in the darkest sky... a place
beyond the mind's understanding...
when light returns to darkness
and is reborn.... in tiny particles
of dust that gather and are formed....
a song that has no human words...
but is known and knowing... and
can only be played by human hands...
i do not know... dont have to!
but i know beyond knowing...
and have drank water from that brook...
when the wind returns, so will i...
i need no name, no familiar face...
you'll know i'm there when you breathe!

A Life Of Love
The day is gone
A light is shattered
My heart falling to the ground
The love so cold it hurts to breathe
I fear my love is gone for good
My life splits, i start to bleed
A light in the distance calls my name
I see my baby in the sky
Our hearts collide my love returns
My bleeding heart begins to heal
At the heart love begins and ends
One day ended my life is gone
A night begins my life returns

Many Happy Returns
When I accepted this job
I was resigned to my fate
When I got there early
Shed arrive late
You can say shes gone forever
Or just sit tight and wait
She said I was unprincipled
That I was not the first
Like the phoenix coming back
From the ashes, uh-huh
I know whats good,
But I know what trash is
In the head-lights,
In the highlights of her hair...
Hit the head lines
But shes not there:
_ chorus:
Many happy returns
Many happy returns
These are the lessons I could have learned
Return. many happy returns
And these are the letters I should have burned
Okay, Im sad, not blue
Okay, remember
All that matters to me now
Is the message I sent her
Like the world, spinning round
On its axis, uh-huh
I know democracy
But I know whats fascist
When shes gone, all I got to learn
Is the law of diminishing return
When shes here, one thing Ive found
Things get better second time around
_ chorus
Okay Im sad, not blue
Okay, remember
All that matters to me now
Is the message I sent her
Now shes gone, shes gone away
Now shes gone forget her
Coming back another day
If youd only let her
Now shes gone, shes gone away
But shes gone forget her
Coming back another day
So why resurrect her?
_ chorus

When the Lavender Returns
As cold as ice
Wrapped round your brain
And darkness unfolds
You’re breathing in pain
It’s been freezing here
In this Land of Shattered Dreams
It’s been freezing here
This corrupted winter stings
It’s been freezing here
(Où est la Lavande?)
Your body can’t stay warm
(Où est la Lavande?)
It’s been freezing here
(Où est la Lavande?)
This cruel and criminal storm
(Où est la Lavande?)
But don’t give up
Don’t despair
Taste the hope
Floating through the air
When the lavender returns
It’ll warm your frozen bones
Vivid violet clothes
In their candy overtones
When the lavender returns
It’ll race across the land
Rebel flower grows
In the palm of your free hand
If you look out your window
The ground’s parched and bare
If you call for your lover
She’s no longer there
If you ponder your life
Well, it feels like a wreck
And your failures are scars
You can never forget
As leaves turn brown
Sky fades to grey
You’re feeling the drought
The end of the day
It’s been lonely here
In this World of Fallen Souls
It’s been lonely here
With nowhere left to go
But don’t give up
Don’t despair
Taste the hope
Floating through the air
When the lavender returns
It’ll warm your frozen bones
Vivid violet clothes
In their candy overtones
When the lavender returns
(Où est la Lavande?)
It’ll race across the land
(Où est la Lavande?)
Rebel flower grows
(Où est la Lavande?)
In the palm of your free hand
(Où est la Lavande?)
When the lavender returns
(Où est la Lavande?)
It’ll warm your frozen bones
(Où est la Lavande?)
Vivid violet clothes
(Où est la Lavande?)
In their candy overtones
(Où est la Lavande?)

Sounds in Mind
This mind is full of sounds…
like Shakespeare’s island; though
no mind is like an island…
where are all those sounds stored,
indexed, waiting tidy on their shelves?
Only when a sound returns
do you realise that it’s been missing..
hasn’t deprivation always been
the Creator’s pointed message to us?
just now, sitting with a teacup,
after a ‘testing’ week…
a gentle, sweet and reasonable
woman’s mother voice returns
to mind's uncatalogued fine inner ear;
reminds me it’s been absent for awhile..
and the world that seemed so alien last week
surrounds me with its mellow sound of care.

The Wild Iris
At the end of my suffering
there was a door.
Hear me out: that which you call death
I remember.
Overhead, noises, branches of the pine shifting.
Then nothing. The weak sun
flickered over the dry surface.
It is terrible to survive
as consciousness
buried in the dark earth.
Then it was over: that which you fear, being
a soul and unable
to speak, ending abruptly, the stiff earth
bending a little. And what I took to be
birds darting in low shrubs.
You who do not remember
passage from the other world
I tell you I could speak again: whatever
returns from oblivion returns
to find a voice:
from the center of my life came
a great fountain, deep blue
shadows on azure seawater.
