Chameleon
If humans had the skin of a chameleon
we would never fear each other.
For we'd just change the color of our skin
to match the color of a brother.

What Color? (Hope)
what color
was the dust
from which the stars
were made?
what color is the hunger
written on the child's face?
what color is justice,
forgiveness, desire, truth?
what color is the wind....
the rain, gravity,
and knowledge?
what color is equality?
what color is freedom?
what color is eternity?
what color is redemption?
what color is God?
what color were the nails
that hung Jesus on the cross?
what color was enlightenment
falling on the Buddha as he sat
'neath that tree?
what color is prejudice, hatred,
fear, greed, apathy.....
what color your skin?
nay, what color is your blood?
and what color are the eyes
of humanity staring through the darkness?
and what color is hope?

Sonnet: Change You Can But…
Change you can your hair color, not your skin;
Change you can your smile and grin: not your eyes;
Change you can your sex partners, not your kin;
Change you can your sinful life: Be soul-wise!
Change you can your friends and foes, not parents;
Change you can your teacher/guide, not your brain;
Change you can your exam-marks, not talents;
Change you can your habits bad and be sane.
Change you can the environment, not the sun;
Change you can the landscape old, not the soil;
Change you can your temperament and not run;
Change you can your heart and mind: you must toil.
Change you can your ambitions but be brave;
Change you can your life-styles much but behave!

Appearances
What's in the color of your skin?
Just the body that you're in.
A body that has all the same organs
of everybody that's ever been.
Isn't it amazing how we've been taught
to believe that we're different.
Sure we're different in our appearances
right down to our thumbprint.
But again that thumbprint is just skin,
not the character and not the hope.
And there's the beauty in the differences
like the colors of a kaleidoscope.
We are all striving for fairness and joy
whether we were born a girl or a boy.
The ignorance that surrounds all the bigots
is a lack of intelligence they employ
in viewing color,
in demeaning color,
in blaming color,
in labeling color,
in dehumanizing color.
For all of their own inadequacies and guilt
in not allowing themselves to see the sameness
in how we all are built.

Murder is a Colorful Thing
Red is the color of the blood splashed on the walls of my home.
Orange is the color of her stained shirt because of the red of the blood splashed on the walls of my home.
Yellow is the color of her shirt before it was stained orange because of the red of the blood splashed on the walls of my home.
Green is the color of her stomach as I cut her tummy open through her once yellow shirt stained orange because of the red of the blood splashed on the walls of my home.
Blue is the color of the happy sky while I cut into the green of her tummy through her once yellow shirt now stained orange because of the red of the blood splashed on the walls of my home.
Violet is the color of my swollen face from crying under the blue happy sky while I cut into the green of her tummy through her once yellow shirt now stained orange because of the red of the blood splashed on the walls of my home.
Murder is a colorful thing...

The Color of Our Skin
The color of our skin
Need not have shades of prejuduce
A tinge of biased thoughts therein
And hues of endless racial malice.
The color of our skin
Does not show our state of heart -
What we are, or where we've been,
Or the love we have there to impart.
The color of our skin
Does not show in our poetry
We write the human side we're in
And show the canvas of diversity.
We're thankful for these colors
And hope that people come to know
Whatever reasons our poems are for,
We are all colors of the rainbow.

Color Me
I wish that they would color me
The color of the rose
The color of the spring
Or the color of the snow.
If again they’d color me
The color that I would be
Would be the color I could see
As long as I am free.
As I wish that they would color me
The color of the trees
Or the color of the leaves
And then that color I would be.
I wish that I was a rainbow
With the many colors of the sky
Or the single color of a star
Shimmering in the night.
And if again they would color me
The color that I would be
Would be the color that is me
Is the color that I could see.

Color of Skin
Today we celebrate and cheer.
We all scream today a new era begins.
But wait and ask ourselves has the past really come to an end.
Are we cheering because hope is on the rise?
Or are we cheering just because the color of the man.
and if the latter the dream has yet to come.
Because we did not elect because of content of his charter
most of us voted just because the color of his skin.
Those who are Caucasian mostly voted because it is now
fashionable to be liberal, and us who are black vote mainly
because of the color of his skin.
So as you're cheering saying the dream has come true
understand in order for the dream to be true we all
must see past the color of our own skin.
Color of Change
Red is the color of passion
the color of love
the color of hate
the color of anger
and the color of regret
purple is the color of richness
of happiness
Black is the color of emptiness
Of shame
and of sadness
where is the color of change
Is it between the red and black?
or between the purple and black?
somewhere between the happiness and emptiness
somewhere between the love and the sadness
i believe change is orange
straying away from the dark colors leading towards the red and purple

Winter Terror
As the days grow shorter and nights longer,
the rabbits change color and the foxes change too...
While trappers grow excited,
to go out and get a few.
This is because the change of color,
and the money for pelts...
Some make the fur and skin into,
fancy leather belts.
During winter rabbits and foxes,
need to run and hide...
If they were caught,
you'd bet they died.
Family
Family can be difficult,
sometimes even hard...
Either way you always get,
a birthday card.
You may disagree,
wtih Mom or Dad...
Then you might remember,
all the good times you've had.
You'll start to cry,
and then they say...
'A family we are,
a family we'll stay.'

Colors
There was a black man
There was a blue man
They hated each other
For the color of the skin
They both believed the other
To be the offspring of some great sin...
One dark day
They got into a helluva fight
Each believing to be in the right
They beat upon each other
Through and through
They beat each other black and blue,
Until finally
They both did come to see
How much alike
They'd come to be.
Now there is a black man
There is a blue man
Together they stand
Once divided by the color of the skin
Never more shall they
Be blinded that way again...
Black or white
Yellow or red
The color of the skin
Is truly all inside the head,
And the colors in the head
Come out in the words
That are said,
And the words
That are said
Can leave the heart so alive,
Or, utterly dead.
It's a choice to make:
Either for the image of the soul
Or, for the color of the skins sake;
The darkness of night
Or, the beauty from
The colors of the
Light.

Our Love Will Never Change
The world will change
But it’s happiness won’t change.
The people will change
But their smiles won’t change.
The seasons will change
But their beauty won’t change.
The days will change
But the sun and moon won’t change.
Just like the color of the pretty sky and snow
Our love will never ever change.
Red Is The Color I See
Red Is the Color I See
Red is the only color she can see
Dripping from the sky sliding from the trees
Red is the only color she sees
From the blink of an eye to a dropp of a penny
Red is the only color she sees
From the pain exploding within
To the drink being mixed with vodka or Gin
Red Is the Color Hanging On the Walls
Crawling on the floor and sliding down the halls
Red it the blanket that covers her a night
The color that hugs her skin so tight
Red is the Color that whispers death
That suck up the air and your last breathe
Red is the color tell her it will be ok
Just lay down close your eyes and pray
Red is the color that didn't make it through the night
Eyes closed no more memories in sight
Red it the color that hung on the knife
Gone was a life
No a breathe or a blink
The knife now lies in the sink.

Devotion
admiration followed him from the men and women
of the beach as he walks one summer
his skin glowing to the sun: gold
the color of mud, his hair blowing freely
on his head, his steps mellow to the sand
a young maiden from the village follows him
at a distance but not so near bringing him his shirt
neatly folded in her hands-
a little bit angry, she looks at him lifting her eyes
but again not so near
she gives up devotion and throws his shirt
on the grey sand
runs toward the other end of the shore
and disappears
her feet are so tiny leaving this awkward
cloud when she runs away from him
he sees her vanish
ignoring what cloud she left from her tiny feet

We Are The Same
I present to you a woman
who wishes she were not
judged by the color of her
skin and the clothes she wears.
Why must I because I’m
different be a target to
your insults and your
ignorance. I am human
like you.
So I talk with a slang and
dance different, some of you
dance just like me.
Yeah, our skin color is different,
but we are the same.
Like you I want respect
I deserve respect. I do not
want to be stereotyped
because of my Friday nights
outfit and I do not want to be
discriminated against when
I’m working and you see
me wearing pants that show
off my round butt or my top
that show my breast when I
bend over to give you your
dinner.
We are God’s creation and God’s
children once at heaven’s gate
there will be no color because
love, respect, and acceptance
has no color.

Your Skin Melvin
your skin melvin you must accept can never be
the color of the clouds
the sun
the moon and the stars
but do not be dismayed
your color is
the earth where all the
other poets
of this universe
write
breathe
and thrive
it is my color too
neither is there
a shying for shame
nor a need for pride
i am just comfortable
by just being
myself.

[female talking spanish]
I like that...
You tellin me you wanna come over
But girl Id told ya
I dont know if I could control myself
Id love to just kiss and hold ya
Movies, popcorn, and soda
But imagine us all by ourselves
Wed be kissin, skin to skin, wearin nothin (nothin)
Who knows where we end (help)
But you can stay
If you really want...
Its okay...
[chorus]
Its okay
Its alright
You can spend the night
If you promise that youll hold me
Tight
And I would like
For you to love me
Love me
Baby, its okay
Its alright
You can spend the night
If you promise that youll hold me
Tight
And I would like
For you to love me
Love me
(I) lately Ive been thinkin to myself
If I ever had you alone
What Id do to you
What youd do to me
Everything in between
But wait...
I dont wanna hurry you
Dont get it twisted though, babygirl
Cause I aint scared of you
Therell be kissin (kissin), skin to skin (skin to skin), wearin nothin (nothin)
Who knows where we end (help)
But you can stay
If you really want...
Its okay...
[chorus]
Cause...
Baby I wanna make love (make love)
But I dont wanna rush (rush you)
You mean everything to me though
To make you...happy...is what
What I want to do
I dreamed of this for so long
And if its what you want
Cmon now...
Kissin (kissin), skin to skin, well be wearin nothin
Who knows where we end
But you can stay
If you really want...
Its okay...
[chorus]
First comes off the shirt
Then
Then comes off that pants
Then
Then comes off the bra
Then
First comes off the shirt
Then
Then comes off that pants
Then
Then comes off the bra
Then
First comes off the shirt
Then
Then comes off that pants
Then
Then comes off the bra
Then
First comes off the shirt
Then
Then comes off that pants
Then
Then comes off the bra

We all have a different color on our skin
But we all share the same smile
Why not change this racist world we live in?

The badge I ware
The badge I ware
Is the blackness
Of my skin.
The color racism
Rooted within.
As children
Of the sun
And daughters
Of the moon
We sexed the
Man the women sexed
By noon dawn mid day light.
I am at my boldness
At such an hour
Strong in color
Color of the stayed power
