The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it, but the way those atoms are put together.

As far as extra dimensions are concerned, very tiny extra dimensions wouldn't be perceived in everyday life, just as atoms aren't: we see many atoms together but we don't see atoms individually.

It would be a poor thing to be an atom in a universe without physicists, and physicists are made of atoms. A physicist is an atom's way of knowing about atoms.

Atoms
Atoms are back, balls of flame, swung into desuetude,
For they are light particles of enlightenment, to worship.
Comely atoms are effervescent, for they are with ebullience,
Areas are still, areas are bands of strength, banks of disuse.
May we swing into disuse one day with atoms and molecules,
Converted into dust, covered by clay as we originated from it;
Animals corrupt the ancient philosophers, apples of knowledge,
Fully like babies in perfection and perception, like arts of wholeness.
The capital of thinking regards the atoms with disgust,
My captain is a car of thoughts, drive it to reach more disuse;
The body of a book is a cynosure of this civilisation,
Swinging us into efflorescence, for we are ephemeral.

~ DreamCity ~ Triolet 1
How great my dreamcity, how atoms my eartly city,
Longing for this dream, away from earth,
- I fly in movement, wanting to run like kitty,
How great my dreamcity, how atoms my earthy city,
-Traversing diamond fluvials; Terrenal rivers never to rebirth,
How I deem! The gentiles of dubious; so now there silly,
How great my dreamcity, how atoms my earthy city,
-I dont want to emerge from this beautitud night city

We have begun to contemplate our origins: starstuff pondering the stars; organized assemblages of ten billion billion billion atoms considering the evolution of atoms; tracing the long journey by which, here at least, consciousness arose.

If we conceive all the changes in the physical world as reducible to the motion of atoms, motions generated by means of the fixed nuclear forces of those atoms, the whole of the world could thus be known by means of the natural sciences.

The problems of language here are really serious. We wish to speak in some way about the structure of the atoms. But we cannot speak about atoms in ordinary language.

Alas! Everything Is In A Flux
the body of the loved one
that lies there
without a face since it was the fire
that consumed
what flesh was once there
in the breast
and the extremities
all are atoms and molecules
vibrating
there is no body, no pain now
there is only the sound
of a whisper
radiations of waves upon waves
and when you go inside
alas! everything is in a flux
in fact
there is nothing
so why are you crying?
are you grieving for flying atoms
for jumping molecules?
for love that is nothing but the interstitial
spaces between each
nothingness?
let me be honest with you
i have no grief for no one,
not even for me.

In a sense, human flesh is made of stardust. Every atom in the human body, excluding only the primordial hydrogen atoms, was fashioned in stars that formed, grew old and exploded most violently before the Sun and the Earth came into being. The explosions scattered the heavy elements as a fine dust through space. By the time it made the Sun, the primordial gas of the Milky Way was sufficiently enriched with heavier elements for rocky planets like the Earth to form. And from the rocks atoms escaped for eventual incorporation in living things: carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulphur for all living tissue; calcium for bones and teeth; sodium and potassium for the workings of nerves and brains; the iron colouring blood red… and so on. No other conclusion of modern research testifies more clearly to mankind’s intimate connections with the universe at large and with the cosmic forces at work among the stars.

An Atoms Tale Is Epic
An Atoms Tale Is Epic
If I die before tomorrow
Though the sun won't shine for me
Take pleasure in it's warming glow
There's a future there to see
No life will last forever
The sun will one day fail
But not before we've all passed on
So who will hear the tale
A tree falls in a forest
A whale dies in the sea
What happens to the birds nest
Do the krill sigh with relief
For all things have their moments
And moments are just that
Fleeting blinks of birds eyes
While they are swallowing a gnat
The movement of those atoms
That constitute our food
May see them come full circle
How oft have they been chewed
Eternity is far too short
To learn all that is about
Everything this world has
Is really nowt but nowt
In pondering the puzzles
That plague us one and all
Dont succumb to sorrow
When you see the last leaf fall
For somewhere in the realms of space
In one parallel or two
Will be another one of us
Who holds a similar view
All the atoms that we find here
Have been around so long
Their airmiles are quite staggering
But their engines still on song
For visions of perpetual motion
That man has sought for centuries
Can never match these tiny dots that
Have whizzed around with endless ease

Poets say science takes away from the beauty of the stars - mere globs of gas atoms. I, too, can see the stars on a desert night, and feel them. But do I see less or more?

Gone spinning
I'm there
with the wind lifting the snowflakes from the ground
nestling some on the trees and boughs now bare
pulling through the broken windows homes
to open the doors now frozen
pushing white atoms of cold towards the heart to warm them
the atoms we were honoured the sky had finally decided
to make them visible for us
for when things are not seen
you've got to draw them real hard
the way a woman draws her eyes each morning
putting her winter shades on heavy eyelids
putting her long winter coat
that will turn into the wings once she's out
with the scarf around her neck not to winter break it
with the gloves on her hands flirting with drops of clouds
saying to herself - you look good
you'll look even better now you've gone spinning

The jarring of a midnight's dew
What permanent vanquished beauty
What tyrannical sea of change
Transmutes and transmogrifies
All that is indigenous to atoms
Rock, iron, wood, salt, root,
Bone and flesh..?
What increments roost in you,
In us..? in this archaic, masquerade
What sagacity, what foresight
Inches us forwards singular
Into an esoteric silhouette
What everlasting beauty
Imbibes through you! so you, too
Can be tantalized and bid within,
The jarring of a midnight's dew
Enchantments, repository.

Wonder and Fear
Many, including I, often fear the future.
We fear life - because it's not concrete - because we cannot, and will not, learn it's mysteries.
Because nothing is certain.
And those who prosper - can thank only luck
How can one keep the good in mind? - they ask
I ripped a page out of Whitman, so that no matter where I went, I would always remember to celebrate myself.
For our atoms would keep each other company.
How can one overcome mortality whence the fall begins? - they ask
I don't think of it as falling, so much as flying.
But heavy thoughts - make me heavy.
What if history forgets us - they ask - How can one live forever?
Just as history repeats itself, so are we repeated - by embodiment - and inspiration. What inhumanity was mustard gas - was napalm - is now, atoms and pestilence and lasers.
They - as well as we - inspire - and embody - and live on.
Live on - to destroy. A purpose.
What purpose can there be in such chaos - that is the world? - they ask
Often I walk the road first - and find out after, where it leads.
