A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.

The most interesting thing about change in the environment is that for the most part the environment isn't changing.

i lied when i told her that i am in Alaska
to make fun of life
when you feel that you are like
inside a can
of milk
i told her by way of a joke
that i am in
Alaska...
of course she does not believe it
for all the while
she knows
that my only Alaska is no other
than the
Condensada.
But i get the point though
albeit in a manner that is subtle
that indeed i am in Alaska
that cold round can
so sweet with all the condensed
reconstituted milk
causing Diabetes

American Child
This song appears on four albums, and was first released on the autograph album, and has also been released on the earth songs, the very best of john denver (single cd) and the john denver colle
- calypso albums.
Goin up to alaska
Up to the land of the midnight sun
Where the whale and the polar bear run
Oer the icy blue sea
Goin up to alaska
Up to the north and the pioneer life
Where courage and strength still survive
And a man can be free
American child, does the call of the wild
Ever sing through the mist of your dreams
Does it fly with the wind when you waken again
When its gone do you know what it means
Can you picture the time when a man had to find
His own way through the cold
To come back again to all that youve been
Cant you see that its time to come home
To the flowers and seas and the rivers and the trees
And the earth whos the mother of all
A promise once made - will it shine, will it fade
Will we rise with the vision or fall
Goin up to alaska
Up to the land of the midnight sun
Where the whale and the polar bear run
Oer the icy blue sea
Goin up to alaska
Up to the north and the pioneer life
Where courage and strength still survive
And a man can be free
Men can be free
Goin up to alaska
Goin up to alaska
Goin up to alaska

Caroline Says Ii
Caroline says
As she gets up off the floor
Why is it that you beat me
It isnt any fun
Caroline says
As she makes up her eyes
You ought to learn more about yourself
Think more than just i
But shes not afraid to die
All her friends call her alaska
When she takes speed, they laugh and ask her
What is in her mind
What is in her mind
Caroline says
As she gets up from the floor
You can hit me all you want to
But I dont love you anymore
Caroline says
While biting her lip
Life is meant to be more than this
And this is a bum trip
But shes not afraid to die
All her friends call her alaska
When she takes speed, they laugh and ask her
What is in her mind
What is in her mind
She put her fist through the window pane
It was such a funny feeling
Its so cold in alaska
Its so cold in alaska
Its so cold in alaska

Survival in a stable environment depends almost entirely on remembering the strategies for survival that have been developed in the past, and so the conservation and transmission of these becomes the primary mission of education. But, a paradoxical situation develops when change becomes the primary characteristic of the environment. Then the task turns inside out — survival in a rapidly changing environment depends almost entirely upon being able to identify which of the old concepts are relevant to the demands imposed by the new threats to survival, and which are not.

It Is Location, Location, Location
Authenticity is like a fine wine.
It's presence is not appreciated,
Until the taste is rated as Grade A...
By those who appreciate,
The meaning of authenticity!
And have identified what it is over time!
One can be 'chosen' to sit,
Above the clouds and amongst stars.
But it is location, location, location...
That makes where the seating takes place,
More of a value increased not to depreciate.
And that is determined by those who know quality.

Alaska & Me
This song appears on three albums, and was first released on the higher ground album, and has also been released on the gift you are and the john denver collection - calypso albums.
When I was a child and I lived in the city
I dreamed of alaska so far away
And I dreamed I was flying over mountains and glaciers
Somehow I knew Id live there one day
Well it took me some growin, and a fair bit of schoolin
And a little bit of trouble to get on the move
And I felt like a loser but I turned out the winner
When I came to alaska the land that I love
Heres to alaska, heres to the people
Heres to the wild and heres to the free
Heres to my life in a chosen country
Heres to alaska and me
I was born in a cabin on little mulchatna
Raised in hard times but I had a good life
From the first time I flew with my father a singin
I knew that Id wind up a bush pilots wife
We sleep near the sound of a slow running river
And wake up most mornings to a drizzling rain
And we face every day like the first or the last one
With nothin to lose and heaven to gain
Heres to alaska, heres to the people
Heres to the wild and heres to the free
Heres to my life in a chosen country
Heres to alaska and me
Oh, for the fire on a cold winters night
And once more to gaze at the great northern lights
For all of the beauty my children will see
Heres to alaska and me
Heres to alaska, heres to the people
Heres to the wild and heres to the free
Heres to my life in a chosen country
Heres to alaska and me

Stephanie Says
Stephanie says
(reed)
Stephanie says that she wants to know
Why shes given half her life, to people she hates now
Stephanie says when answering the phone
What country shall I say is calling from across the world
But shes not afraid to die, the people all call her alaska
Between worlds so the people ask her cause its all in her mind
Its all in her mind
Stephanie says that she wants to know
Why it is though shes the door she cant be the room
Stephanie says but doesnt hang up the phone
What sea shell she is calling from across the world
But shes not afraid to die, the people all cal her alaska
Between worlds so the people ask her cause its all in her mind
Its all in her mind
She asks you is it good or bad
Its such an icy feeling its so cold in alaska,
Its so cold in alaska, its so cold in alaska

Never Satisified
Where do we go from here
There must be something near
Changing you, changing me forever
Places changes, faces change
Life is so very strange
Changing time, changing rhyme together
Theres no where else to go
This could be our last show
Changing dreams, changing schemes never
We are never satisfied
Love is gone, along with fun
Now were reaching for the gun
Changing cast, changing fast, no more tether
We are never satisfied

Do Not Relent
Anything may come with the changing winds,
To affect the strength of your faith.
You may sense a relief by a brief weakening.
But do not relent.
Do not give up to consent.
Let nothing prevent you,
From those goals you pursue.
You have held onto them too long!
For all the right reasons!
Believe.
Remove your heart from your sleeve.
If you dare and you must.
And do what is needed!
But never give up to give in to doubt.
By a lingering distrust of your own decision.
Regrets have a way of resurfacing.
Too many have found that out.
To become subdued by indecision.
Keeping faith strong.
And kept as your weapon...
Will not fail.
No matter how many attempts it takes,
To do what pleases you...
That eventually gets done!
Do not relent.
Nor give in to consent,
To the luxury of self imposed failure...
You will someday resent!
Do not relent,
To anything that may come with the changing winds,
To affect the strength of your faith.
Keep that tested by the act of your purpose.
And do not relent.
Believe!

Right Before Your Eyes
When the door shuts
Don't worry about me
Its not attention that I want from you
I need you to trust who I'm gonna be
And in everything I'm going to do
Cause I'm not afraid
Of what I don't know
For understanding is all that I earn
What is for sure is I'm gonna to go
I'm gonna to live and I'm going to learn
And I know there will be mistakes that I will make
But I know they're not worse than chances I don't take, take
Right before your eyes I am changing, changing
New life on the inside I am changing, changing
When the door shuts
Its shuts in front of me
A new person that I have become
I follow my heart to my destiny
But living in fear and sorrow is done
There will be no more feeling that I'm all alone
I will surround myself with things that help me grow, grow
Right before your eyes I am changing, changing
New life on the inside I am changing, changing
Right before your eyes I am changing, changing
New life on the inside I am changing, changing
Right before your eyes I am changing, changing
New life on the inside I am changing, changing
Right before your eyes
Right before your eyes
