I'm lucky enough that directors sometimes seek me out for little projects that people don't even know about, that just surface later on.

They are damn good projects - excellent projects. That goes for all the projects up there. You know some people make fun of people who speak a foreign language, and dumb people criticize something they do not understand, and that is what is going on up there - God damn it!

I've been taking my time now between projects looking for stuff that has a little bit more substance, that isn't surface. Some of the films that I've done in the past really were surface.

The director's who want to be innovative use the DVD as a tool to see what people have done in the past and you have other people who will actually take from better directors and that makes them better directors.

We make a contract within ourselves as actors or directors or writers about how much of ourselves we let into projects. You can actually figure out before you work on something how much blood you will have to let emotionally.

Somehow I got to be one of five or six actors that the directors would use as guinea pigs at this directing colloquium, where people pay to listen to and watch the directors direct.

Control is the wrong word. The practice is very much about sharing, and, in any creative practice, some individuals, whether partners or directors, are much closer to certain projects than I could ever be.

People so far have been very fond of the Robert Altman movie, as I am, and when one things goes well it shines light on your other projects and now I seem to have a number of projects that are moving forward.

Lucky For You
Lucky I call you cus thats the way you make me feel.
Love in the air and the wind in my hair is makin me real.
Look out lucky theres a mountain in front of you.
And with a little luck well see it thru.
Whats lucky for me is lucky for you.
I used to think that luck was just another four letter word.
But now that I found you its the finest one Ive ever heard.
Do you see the stars now do you lucky?
Theyre not all that far, now are they lucky?
Whats lucky for you, is lucky for me,
And whats lucky for me, is lucky for you.

Hey Lucky Lady
Hey lucky lady lucky lady I was once the lucky lady
I was happy with my baby I was such a lucky lady
Hey lucky lady lucky lady you are now the lucky lady
Are you happy with my baby you know you're a lucky lady you lucky lady
Lucky lady that's what I was I was happy to have his love
All a woman could wish for he was that and so much more
He was mine and how I loved him before your hands ever touched him
Long before your temptin' eyes lured my baby from my life
Hey lucky lady lucky lady...
Is it love or is it pleasure do you know you've found a treasure
Are you only having fun do you know the prize you've won
If you don't want something lasting if it's just the time you're passing
Lucky lady give him up cause I do love him very much
Hey lucky lady lucky lady...
Hey lucky lady lucky lady...

I've had really great experiences working with first-time directors. They come at filmmaking with fresh ideas. I've been very lucky that way.

If The Surface For Them Did Not Exist
If the surface didn't exist,
Many wouldn't have a thought to cling to.
Many wouldn't know,
Which gossip heard was true.
If the surface for them did not exist.
If the surface didn't exist,
The many dependent on having lives not their own...
Would be lost without being told what to do.
Many absolutely would not have a clue...
How to find their way around,
Without following in someone's footsteps.
If the surface they sniffed did not exist.
And if the surface for them did not exist...
They would not be able to sit alone,
Doing something completely on their own...
And appreciating life,
With the minding of their own business.
If...
The surface for many did not exist,
It would be taumatic for them to seek a thought process.
Many would not know where or how to begin.
So many are accustomed to living lives that are shallow.
With an ability only to identify with that...
Which is supplied and arrives to them surfacely.
Even a dog sniffing tries to find a place to bury a bone.
And doing that alone.

Lucky Guy
Written by todd rundgren
Some people dont seem real at all
Unafraid of any mountain
Sure that the gods wont let him fall
Should he fall, he will always get up again
And if hes hurt he never shows it
If hes wrong nobody knows it
Seems like he never has to try
He just must be a lucky guy
And when theres pain he never minds it
When its lost he always finds it
Nobody really knows just why
He just must be a lucky guy
He just must be a lucky guy
I wish I was that lucky guy

Too Many People
Too many people going underground
Too many reaching for a piece of cake
Too many people pulled and pushed around
Too many waiting for that lucky break
That was your first mistake
You took your lucky break and broke it in two
Now what can be done for you
You broke it in two
Too many people sharing party lines
Too many people never sleeping late
Too many people paying parking fines
Too many hungry people losing weight
That was your first mistake
You took your lucky break and broke it in two
Now what can be done for you
You broke it in two
Too many people breaching practices
Dont let them tell you what you wanna be
Too many people holding back, this is
Crazy and maybe its not like me
That was your last mistake
I find my love awake and waiting to be
Now what can be done for you
Shes waiting for me

I do like to work with young directors because it's such a difficult business that I think after directors have been around a while sometimes, not always, but sometimes their passion gets siphoned off because they get hurt.
