Betsey and I Are Out
Draw up the papers, lawyer, and make 'em good and stout;
For things at home are crossways, and Betsey and I are out.
We, who have worked together so long as man and wife,
Must pull in single harness for the rest of our nat'ral life.
"What is the matter?" say you. I swan it's hard to tell!
Most of the years behind us we've passed by very well;
I have no other woman, she has no other man—
Only we've lived together as long as we ever can.
So I have talked with Betsey, and Betsey has talked with me,
And so we've agreed together that we can't never agree;
Not that we've catched each other in any terrible crime;
We've been a-gathering this for years, a little at a time.
There was a stock of temper we both had for a start,
Although we never suspected 'twould take us two apart;
I had my various failings, bred in the flesh and bone;
And Betsey, like all good women, had a temper of her own.
The first thing I remember whereon we disagreed
Was something concerning heaven—a difference in our creed;
We arg'ed the thing at breakfast, we arg'ed the thing at tea,
And the more we arg'ed the question the more we didn't agree.
And the next that I remember was when we lost a cow;
She had kicked the bucket for certain, the question was only—How?
I held my own opinion, and Betsey another had;
And when we were done a-talkin', we both of us was mad.
And the next that I remember, it started in a joke;
But full for a week it lasted, and neither of us spoke.
And the next was when I scolded because she broke a bowl;
And she said I was mean and stingy, and hadn't any soul.
And so that bowl kept pourin' dissensions in our cup;
And so that blamed cow-critter was always a-comin' up;
And so that heaven we arg'ed no nearer to us got,
But it gave us a taste of somethin' a thousand times as hot.
And so the thing kept workin', and all the self-same way;
Always somethin' to arg'e, and somethin' sharp to say;
And down on us came the neighbors, a couple dozen strong,
And lent their kindest sarvice for to help the thing along.
And there has been days together—and many a weary week—
We was both of us cross and spunky, and both too proud to speak;
And I have been thinkin' and thinkin', the whole of the winter and fall,
If I can't live kind with a woman, why, then, I won't at all.
And so I have talked with Betsey, and Betsey has talked with me,
And we have agreed together that we can't never agree;
And what is hers shall be hers, and what is mine shall be mine;
And I'll put it in the agreement, and take it to her to sign.
Write on the paper, lawyer—the very first paragraph—
Of all the farm and live-stock that she shall have her half;
For she has helped to earn it, through many a weary day,
And it's nothing more than justice that Betsey has her pay.
Give her the house and homestead—a man can thrive and roam;
But women are skeery critters, unless they have a home;
And I have always determined, and never failed to say,
That Betsey never should want a home if I was taken away.
There is a little hard money that's drawin' tol'rable pay:
A couple of hundred dollars laid by for a rainy day;
Safe in the hands of good men, and easy to get at;
Put in another clause there, and give her half of that.
Yes, I see you smile, Sir, at my givin' her so much;
Yes, divorce is cheap, Sir, but I take no stock in such!
True and fair I married her, when she was blithe and young;
And Betsey was al'ays good to me, exceptin' with her tongue.
Once, when I was young as you, and not so smart, perhaps,
For me she mittened a lawyer, and several other chaps;
And all of them was flustered, and fairly taken down,
And I for a time was counted the luckiest man in town.
Once when I had a fever—I won't forget it soon—
I was hot as a basted turkey and crazy as a loon;
Never an hour went by me when she was out of sight—
She nursed me true and tender, and stuck to me day and night.
And if ever a house was tidy, and ever a kitchen clean,
Her house and kitchen was tidy as any I ever seen;
And I don't complain of Betsey, or any of her acts,
Exceptin' when we've quarreled, and told each other facts.
So draw up the paper, lawyer, and I'll go home to-night,
And read the agreement to her, and see if it's all right;
And then, in the mornin', I'll sell to a tradin' man I know,
And kiss the child that was left to us, and out in the world I'll go.
And one thing put in the paper, that first to me didn't occur:
That when I am dead at last she'll bring me back to her;
And lay me under the maples I planted years ago,
When she and I was happy before we quarreled so.
And when she dies I wish that she would be laid by me,
And, lyin' together in silence, perhaps we will agree;
And, if ever we meet in heaven, I wouldn't think it queer
If we loved each other the better because we quarreled here.

How Betsey and I Made Up
GIVE us your hand, Mr. Lawyer: how do you do to-day?
You drew up that paper—I s'pose you want your pay.
Don't cut down your figures; make it an X or a V;
For that 'ere written agreement was just the makin' of me.
Goin' home that evenin' I tell you I was blue,
Thinkin' of all my troubles, and what I was goin' to do;
And if my hosses hadn't been the steadiest team alive,
They'd 've tipped me over, certain, for I couldn't see where to drive.
No—for I was laborin' under a heavy load;
No—for I was travelin' an entirely different road;
For I was a-tracin' over the path of our lives ag'in,
And seein' where we missed the way, and where we might have been.
And many a corner we'd turned that just to a quarrel led,
When I ought to 've held my temper, and driven straight ahead;
And the more I thought it over the more these memories came,
And the more I struck the opinion that I was the most to blame.
And things I had long forgotten kept risin' in my mind,
Of little matters betwixt us, where Betsey was good and kind;
And these things flashed all through me, as you know things
sometimes will
When a feller's alone in the darkness, and every thing is still.
"But," says I, "we're too far along to take another track,
And when I put my hand to the plow I do not oft turn back;
And 'tain't an uncommon thing now for couples to smash in two;"
And so I set my teeth together, and vowed I'd see it through.
When I come in sight o' the house 'twas some'at in the night,
And just as I turned a hill-top I see the kitchen light;
Which often a han'some pictur' to a hungry person makes,
But it don't interest a feller much that's goin' to pull up stakes.
And when I went in the house the table was set for me—
As good a supper's I ever saw, or ever want to see;
And I crammed the agreement down my pocket as well as I could,
And fell to eatin' my victuals, which somehow didn't taste good.
And Betsey, she pretended to look about the house,
But she watched my side coat pocket like a cat would watch a mouse:
And then she went to foolin' a little with her cup,
And intently readin' a newspaper, a-holdin' it wrong side up.
And when I'd done my supper I drawed the agreement out,
And give it to her without a word, for she knowed what 'twas about;
And then I hummed a little tune, but now and then a note
Was bu'sted by some animal that hopped up in my throat.
Then Betsey she got her specs from off the mantel-shelf,
And read the article over quite softly to herself;
Read it by little and little, for her eyes is gettin' old,
And lawyers' writin' ain't no print, especially when it's cold.
And after she'd read a little she give my arm a touch,
And kindly said she was afraid I was 'lowin' her too much;
But when she was through she went for me, her face a-streamin' with tears,
And kissed me for the first time in over twenty years!
I don't know what you'll think, Sir—I didn't come to inquire—
But I picked up that agreement and stuffed it in the fire;
And I told her we'd bury the hatchet alongside of the cow;
And we struck an agreement never to have another row.
And I told her in the future I wouldn't speak cross or rash
If half the crockery in the house was broken all to smash;
And she said, in regards to heaven, we'd try and learn its worth
By startin' a branch establishment and runnin' it here on earth.
And so we sat a-talkin' three-quarters of the night,
And opened our hearts to each other until they both grew light;
And the days when I was winnin' her away from so many men
Was nothin' to that evenin' I courted her over again.
Next mornin' an ancient virgin took pains to call on us,
Her lamp all trimmed and a-burnin' to kindle another fuss;
But when she went to pryin' and openin' of old sores,
My Betsey rose politely, and showed her out-of-doors.
Since then I don't deny but there's been a word or two;
But we've got our eyes wide open, and know just what to do:
When one speaks cross the other just meets it with a laugh,
And the first one's ready to give up considerable more than half.
Maybe you'll think me soft, Sir, a-talkin' in this style,
But somehow it does me lots of good to tell it once in a while;
And I do it for a compliment—'tis so that you can see
That that there written agreement of yours was just the makin' of me.
So make out your bill, Mr. Lawyer: don't stop short of an X;
Make it more if you want to, for I have got the checks.
I'm richer than a National Bank, with all its treasures told,
For I've got a wife at home now that's worth her weight in gold.

The Boatswain’s Song
A CHEER to keep our hearts up,
A cup to drown our tears,
And we'll talk of those who perished,
Our mates in former years.
The Betsey was a vessel
As tight as ship could be--
And we cheered to keep our hearts up,
As she tossed upon the sea.
Thro' one dark day we struggled
To stem the foaming tide;
Night came--the straining vessel
All helplessly did ride.
The storm was raging loudly,
The angry heavens did frown--
A cheer to keep your hearts up--
The Betsey, she went down!
The morning broke which many
Might never see again,
And thick and blind and heavy
Came down the drenching rain
We got the smallest boat out,
Jack, Tom, and I, and gave
A cheer to keep our hearts up,
As we toiled against the wave.
Three days we struggled onward,
Without a sight of land;
And we grew so faint and failing,
We could scarcely bear a hand.
It's a bitter thing to battle
With the ocean for your foe:
We cheered to keep our hearts up,
But the cheer was hoarse and low.
Then we thought, with sinking spirits,
Of the shore we'd never see:
Tom wept, and thought of Mary--
Jack talked of home with me.
Each brawny arm grew fainter,
The boat was thinly stored:
A cheer to keep your hearts up--
Poor Jack went overboard!
At last, somehow we landed
Where the cliff was steep and high;
We told Jack's poor old mother,
(We were too much men to cry.)
They'd ha' liked to see me Boatswain,
The Betsey's gallant crew.
Come, a cheer to keep our hearts up,
We shall all of us die too.

To Mrs. D---
Dear Betsey now Pleasure the woodland has left,
Nor more in the water she laves,
Since winter the trees of their bloom has bereft,
And stiffen'd to crystal the waves.
Now clad all in fur our guest she appears,
By the fire-side a merry young grig;
She pours out the wine, our pensiveness cheers,
And at night leads us out to a jig.
Then venture among the tall pines if you dare,
Encounter the keen arctic wind;
Dare this for to meet with affection sincere,
And Pleasure untainted you'll find.
I know you have Pleasure, my sister, by whiles,
But then she appears in great state;
She is hard of access, and lofty her smiles,
While Envy and Pride on her wait.
Thro' drawing rooms, Betsey, you'll chase her in vain,
The Colonel may seek her in blood;
The Poets agree (and they cannot all feign)
That she's born and resides in the wood.

Happy Home
Intro
Oh man
(hey)
Yeah
(hey)
(ha ha)
Lets turn this house
Into a happy home
(this for all the homeboys)
(that couldnt)
Lets turn this house
Into a happy home
(as long as one of us got it)
(some of us got it)
Lets turn this house
Into a happy home
(you know what that is)
(stay down for me)
(ha ha)
Verse 1:
Now we been kicking it, for quite some time
Remain beside me, through my trials
In this life of crime, we done fought
So many times, I forgot to count
I never hit you, now the coward
Rather leave your house, remember back in december
When we was tight, sippin alize and crystal
While in every night in my bedroom
Promise that I commit to you soon
Tongue kiss me everytime you see
We step inside a room, straight out the hood
We promise to be good to each other
Plus I love you so I know you goin make a good mother
Just try to understand if I change a time
Its only cause I never owned anything thats mine
So Im trying, you can stay with my momma but keep the drama
To a low, never call the police
I never call you bitch or hoe
We were all born hungry in this world alone
Finally moved out
My moms house
And got a happy home
Chorus : female singer (2pac)
Hap-py home (lets turn the house into a happy home)
Hap-py home (finally made it out of my momz house)
(got a happy home)
Hap-py home (lets turn the house into a happy home)
Happy home
(huh)
Verse 2 :
Born through hard times ghetto child of mine
I wonder if you have to suffer for your fathers crimes
To be honest its a hard road
Just keep your faith in god
Knowin you can be scarred though
Look at him walkin and talkin
A little child with my eyes and mouth
Father, watch over little seeds
Help me guide them out
Had to change my whole lifestyle
Married my babys momma
Made her my wife now
Im tryin hard yall
Maybe in time
Ill be a better man
Watching the older couples handle it like veterans
Show me the meaning of forever
And together we rise if it would
Help our child grow live together
We die
Why question my love
Its so easy to see without my family
All Im left with is a shadow of me
After all the arguements and the nights alone
Now its time to live the good life
Inside a happy home
Chorus :
Hap-py home (turn the house into a happy home)
Hap-py home (finally got to live a good live inside a happy home)
Hap-py home (turn the house into a happy home)
Hap-py home (a happy home)
Male singer (2pac) :
All these problems got me gone,we got a family of our own
I just want a happy home (turn this house into a happy home)
Long as we just stand up alone, Ill promise I wont do you wrong
I just want a happy home (finally made it out of my momz house)
(got a happy home)
Female singer (2pac)
Hap-py home (turn the house into a happy home)
Hap-py home (finally got to live a good live inside a happy home)
Hap-py home (finally made it out of my momz house)
(got a happy home)
(hey)
(haha)
(turn this house into a happy home)
As long one of us got, some of us got it
(turn this house into a happy home)

The Gossiper
(9/15/12)
She was well to do, and had more
Money than me and you.
She loved to gossip and put people down
it mattered not- who was around.
She talked about everyone that she knew
And wouldn't let you leave till she was through.
She talked about her neighbors and her friends
And put them down to the bitter end.
They said she was lonely and didn't have a life
But who in the world would make her " his wife"?
Now the years have taken its toll
And she's gotten very old.
But! There was someone " who had done just that"
And she became bitter and fat.
She had married at a very young age
To a man who was twice her age.
After a few years he passed away
And she became even more bitter and enraged.
That is when she started to talk
About all who was around
And enjoyed the fact of putting people down.
Soon no one came to visit any more
For she had closed all the doors
They had gotten tired of trying
To be her friend, when she talked
About them - to no end.
There was nothing that could stop
Her wagging tongue, even as she
Was in her dying bed.
She talked about the living and the dead.
When the time came and she was laid to rest.
They said there was two coffins laid in the ground.
One for her body and one for her tongue
So she could not talk to anyone.
(the comical moral of this story)
: Don't talk without knowing- cause
Your tongue don't know where it's going.

Reaping
You want to know what's the matter with me, do yer?
My! ain't men blinder'n moles?
It ain't nothin' new, be sure o' that.
Why, ef you'd had eyes you'd ha' seed
Me changin' under your very nose,
Each day a little diff'rent.
But you never see nothin', you don't.
Don't touch me, Jake,
Don't you dars't to touch me,
I ain't in no humour.
That's what's come over me;
Jest a change clear through.
You lay still, an' I'll tell yer,
I've had it on my mind to tell yer
Fer some time.
It's a strain livin' a lie from mornin' till night,
An' I'm goin' to put an end to it right now.
An' don't make any mistake about one thing,
When I married yer I loved yer.
Why, your voice 'ud make
Me go hot and cold all over,
An' your kisses most stopped my heart from beatin'.
Lord! I was a silly fool.
But that's the way 'twas.
Well, I married yer
An' thought Heav'n was comin'
To set on the door-step.
Heav'n didn't do no settin',
Though the first year warn't so bad.
The baby's fever threw you off some, I guess,
An' then I took her death real hard,
An' a mopey wife kind o' disgusts a man.
I ain't blamin' yer exactly.
But that's how 'twas.
Do lay quiet,
I know I'm slow, but it's harder to say 'n I thought.
There come a time when I got to be
More wife agin than mother.
The mother part was sort of a waste
When we didn't have no other child.
But you'd got used ter lots o' things,
An' you was all took up with the farm.
Many's the time I've laid awake
Watchin' the moon go clear through the elm-tree,
Out o' sight.
I'd foller yer around like a dog,
An' set in the chair you'd be'n settin' in,
Jest to feel its arms around me,
So long's I didn't have yours.
It preyed on me, I guess,
Longin' and longin'
While you was busy all day, and snorin' all night.
Yes, I know you're wide awake now,
But now ain't then,
An' I guess you'll think diff'rent
When I'm done.
Do you mind the day you went to Hadrock?
I didn't want to stay home for reasons,
But you said someone 'd have to be here
'Cause Elmer was comin' to see t' th' telephone.
An' you never see why I was so set on goin' with yer,
Our married life hadn't be'n any great shakes,
Still marriage is marriage, an' I was raised God-fearin'.
But, Lord, you didn't notice nothin',
An' Elmer hangin' around all Winter!
'Twas a lovely mornin'.
The apple-trees was jest elegant
With their blossoms all flared out,
An' there warn't a cloud in the sky.
You went, you wouldn't pay no 'tention to what I said,
An' I heard the Ford chuggin' for most a mile,
The air was so still.
Then Elmer come.
It's no use your frettin', Jake,
I'll tell you all about it.
I know what I'm doin',
An' what's worse, I know what I done.
Elmer fixed th' telephone in about two minits,
An' he didn't seem in no hurry to go,
An' I don't know as I wanted him to go either,
I was awful mad at your not takin' me with yer,
An' I was tired o' wishin' and wishin'
An' gittin' no comfort.
I guess it ain't necessary to tell yer all the things.
He stayed to dinner,
An' he helped me do the dishes,
An' he said a home was a fine thing,
An' I said dishes warn't a home
Nor yet the room they're in.
He said a lot o' things,
An' I fended him off at first,
But he got talkin' all around me,
Clost up to the things I'd be'n thinkin',
What's the use o' me goin' on, Jake,
You know.
He got all he wanted,
An' I give it to him,
An' what's more, I'm glad!
I ain't dead, anyway,
An' somebody thinks I'm somethin'.
Keep away, Jake,
You can kill me to-morrer if you want to,
But I'm goin' to have my say.
Funny thing! Guess I ain't made to hold a man.
Elmer ain't be'n here for mor'n two months.
I don't want to pretend nothin',
Mebbe if he'd be'n lately
I shouldn't have told yer.
I'll go away in the mornin', o' course.
What you want the light fer?
I don't look no diff'rent.
Ain't the moon bright enough
To look at a woman that's deceived yer by?
Don't, Jake, don't, you can't love me now!
It ain't a question of forgiveness.
Why! I'd be thinkin' o' Elmer ev'ry minute;
It ain't decent.
Oh, my God! It ain't decent any more either way!

The Price Of A Soul
“I know I’m a down and out, wet and freezing cold,
but what do you want of me, a man who feels so old.
I’m so tired; just leave me alone so I can get some sleep
and with luck God will my soul safely keep.
Tell me what you want! I’ve got nothing to give you,
no money, no jewellery, and my body is worthless too.
Or are you a Good Samaritan here to give me money?
Oh, go away; you can’t do anything for me.”
“What if I could do something for you, like make you well again
and make you feel younger and fitter, and free from all your pain?
Because I’m the kind of guy who has the power to do this for you,
if you promise to do something for me; just the odd thing or two.
Well, I can see that you’re thinking.., what do you say old man?
No one else will make you this offer, there’s only me that can?
If you turn me down you’ll be dead anyway in a very short time.
What’ve you to lose? Give me a reason, why should you decline? ”
“And I suppose the only thing you want is my God given soul
the only thing I have that’s complete and whole.
In all the years I’ve had it, it has been of no use to me
and yet you want it in exchange for my misery.”
“Tell me old man how did you know it was your soul that I desire?
Do you think that I’m evil and come from a land of fire?
People have somehow managed to get the wrong impression of me,
if I was an evil creature would I set your pain free?
Now, you might say that I’m getting the better of the deal,
but hey, come on, think about it, let us both get real.
Your time is almost over and I’m offering you a new lease of life,
I’ll give you three years of health and wealth, and a pretty wife.
Come on now old man, before it’s too late, what do you say,
are we going to make a deal before you slip away?
Your aged soul is of little use to you when you have gone,
so let’s live and let live, begin a new life from now on! ”
“And if I agree and say yes to the exchange of my soul
what will happen to it when I have paid you my toll?
Will my soul burn for eternity in the far reaches of hell,
or be tormented and tortured for reasons you won’t tell? ”
“I don’t know where you get all these untrue stories from,
nothing like that happens when you’ve departed and gone.
I’m an angel who gathers lost souls, which I keep with others
and you’ll join a family of soul mates, sisters and brothers.
After I’ve helped and collected a couple of thousand or more
you’ll energise me, so I can help other souls at death’s door.
So there you are, there’s nothing sinister and no one gets fired,
and in the end we’re all happy to achieve what we desired.”
“Is it true that we have to have a contract signed in blood,
so there’s no going back and that is understood.
And if you do want everything written down that way
I’ll have no choice but to agree to all you say.”
“Ah for progress; these days a teardropp to seal the contract will do
and everything and more that I promised will be granted to you,
but remember in three years from now your soul will become mine,
so make the most of your life and have a really great time.”
Three extraordinary years have passed by as though one day
and the payment of a soul is due without delay.
“Hello my old friend you look full of life, so healthy and well,
your extension of life hasn’t been wasted, this I can tell.”
“I’ve had a truly exceptional time and I want to thank you a lot,
but is there any way we can postpone the contract we’ve got? ”
“What! Every time I do a suffering, dying person a good turn,
they throw it back into my face; when will they ever learn?
Listen closely old man, a deal is a deal and that is a fact,
and when it’s made with me there’s no going back.
Now is the time to give me a sealing teardropp from your eye
and then we can say our last final goodbye.”
“I’m sorry I can’t, it’s impossible because I have dry eyes,
operations on both have been unsuccessfully tried.”
“This is wasting time and no good to me! We have a deal
you’ll have to renew it, this time in blood, for real.”
“I don’t want to sign a new deal; things are different in my life,
I have responsibilities now, a child and a new wife.”
“All these wonderful things happened to you because of me!
You owe me your soul and that’s how it will be!
Very well, I accept that I cannot have your soul today,
but the moment you die you will definitely pay,
and don’t go away thinking that you have outwitted me
your soul will be mine soon, you are not accident free.”

Heaven
Oh - thinkin' about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free
Now nothin' can take you away from me
We've been down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me comin' back for more
Baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven
Oh - once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down
Ya - nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way
Chorus
I've bin waitin' for so long
For somethin' to arrive
For love to come along
Now our dreams are comin' true
Through the good times and the bad
Ya - I'll be standin' there by you

I Kissed Her
I kissed her
Now we can't be apart for more then a mintue
Without missing each other
It's like
We're the only one's there
Everything else has disappeared
Starring into her eye's
Knowing she's the only one i want
No one can make me happier
It's been four days
Since i've really talked to her
This is really driving me mad
Up waiting
Hoping she would hurry up and come home
Cause I'm really missing her
To think this all started with one kiss
On the side of grandma's house
In the middle of our favorite season
Only a couple more years
Then we can be together without hiding
And finally get married
This year has gone by so fast
It's been so crazy
No to say it's been good
Well for the most part
I love her so much
She's my beautiful baby girl
No matter how much
People have tried to break us up
We always manage to stay together
Cause when i kissed her
She fell in love
See what just one kiss from me can do
She's all mine
You can't have her
Cause i won her heart when i kissed her
She's the greatest thing
That has ever happened to me
I'm glad she's mine
I would gladly give my life for her
Even if we were fighting
She's worth it
I love her
I kissed her
Now she's mine
I kissed a girl
Tell dad i'm sorry
There's nothing he can do
It's too late
I kissed her
I fell in love
She's perfect
Just the girl i was looking for
I couldn't ask for anyone else!

My Life Is Good
A couple of week ago
My wife and i
Took a little trip down to
Mexico
Met this young girl there
We brought her back with us
Now she lives with us
In our home
She cleans the hallway
She cleans the stair
She cleans the livingroom
She wipes the babys ass
She drives the kids to school
She does the laundry too
She wrote this song for me
Listen
Yeah
The other afternoon
My wife and i
Took a little ride into
Beverly hills
Went to the private school
Our oldest child attends
Many famous people send their children there
This teacher says to us
We have a problem here
This child just will not do
A thing I tell him to
And hes such a big old thing
He hurts the other children
All the games they play, he plays so rough
Hold it teacher
Wait a minute
Maybe my hears are clogged or somethin
Maybe Im not understanding
The english language
Dear, you dont seem to realize
My life is good
My life is good
My life is good, you old bag
My life, my life
Just this evening
Some young associates of ours
Are flying to see us from
New york city
Theyre gonna stay with us
Oh, a couple of weeks or so
Im gonna take em to
Restaurants and everything
Gonna getem some
Real good cocaine
They dont get much
Where they come from
And this ones guy wife
Is such a pretty little brown thing
That Im liable to give her a poke or two
Whaddaya think of that?
Teacher, let me tell you a little story
Just this morning
My wife and i
Went to this hotel in the hills
Thats right
The bel-air hotel
Where a very good friend of ours
Happens to be staying
And the name of this young man
Is mr bruce springsteen
Thats right, yeah
Oh, we talked about some kind of
Woodblock or something
And this new guitar we like
And you know what he said to me
Ill tell you what he said to me
He said, rand, Im tired
How would you like to be the boss for awhile?
Well, yeah
Blow, big man, blow
My life is good
My life is good
My life is good
My life, my life is good

To Any Dead Officer
Well, how are things in Heaven? I wish you’d say,
Because I’d like to know that you’re all right.
Tell me, have you found everlasting day,
Or been sucked in by everlasting night?
For when I shut my eyes your face shows plain;
I hear you make some cheery old remark—
I can rebuild you in my brain,
Though you’ve gone out patrolling in the dark.
You hated tours of trenches; you were proud
Of nothing more than having good years to spend;
Longed to get home and join the careless crowd
Of chaps who work in peace with Time for friend.
That’s all washed out now. You’re beyond the wire:
No earthly chance can send you crawling back;
You’ve finished with machine-gun fire—
Knocked over in a hopeless dud-attack.
Somehow I always thought you’d get done in,
Because you were so desperate keen to live:
You were all out to try and save your skin,
Well knowing how much the world had got to give.
You joked at shells and talked the usual ‘shop,’
Stuck to your dirty job and did it fine:
With ‘Jesus Christ! when will it stop?
Three years ... It’s hell unless we break their line.’
So when they told me you’d been left for dead
I wouldn’t believe them, feeling it must be true.
Next week the bloody Roll of Honour said
‘Wounded and missing’—(That’s the thing to do
When lads are left in shell-holes dying slow,
With nothing but blank sky and wounds that ache,
Moaning for water till they know
It’s night, and then it’s not worth while to wake!)
. . . .
Good-bye, old lad! Remember me to God,
And tell Him that our Politicians swear
They won’t give in till Prussian Rule’s been trod
Under the Heel of England ... Are you there?...
Yes ... and the War won’t end for at least two years;
But we’ve got stacks of men ... I’m blind with tears,
Staring into the dark. Cheerio!
I wish they’d killed you in a decent show.

Still Around
Do you remember what you said to me the day I met you
Like yesterday I still can hear your voice, you promised to be
Still in my life no matter what you had to do to be there
Well, it's been a while and here we are lookin' back on times that we shared
I still imagine us being young and so in love
Never apart, you were my heart
Seems like it's always just been us
Chorus:
I remember we were in the park
Holding hands and you said to me
I'm the only thing you need
And I would make your life complete
If I said I'd be your girl
You would stay with me forever
Boy, you never let me down
Through it all you're still around
Still around (yeah)
I still believe in all the things you said to me in those days
You gave me love and kept your word with every promise you made
I sing your favorite song inside my head when you're not with me
Until you come back home and take me in your arms and hold me
I can imagine us being old and still in love
Never apart, you are my heart
Makes me smile, we're still in love
I remember we were in the park
Holding hands and you said to me
I'm the only thing you need
And I would make your life complete
If I said I'd be your girl
You would stay with me forever
Boy, you never let me down
Through it all you're still around
Looking back through all the years
(Man speaking):
Heh
You remember the first time I went to your house
And your father looked at me like I had three heads
(And I will never forget the day)
Heh
We were so in love
(Looking back through all the years)
You were so beautiful and so young
(And I will never forget the day you came into my life and what you said to me)
I can't believe you're still mine
That's crazy
I love you
I remember we were in the park (we were in the park)
Holding hands and you said to me (holding hands)
I'm the only thing you need
And I would make your life complete (and I would your life complete)
If I said I'd be your girl
You would stay with me forever (I'm still your girl)
Boy, you never let me down
Through it all you're still around (I'll never let you down, my baby)
I remember we were in the park
Holding hands and you said to me
I'm the only thing you need
And I would make your life complete
If I said I'd be your girl (said I'd be your girl and)
You would stay with me forever
Boy, you never let me down
Through it all you're still around
Still around (yeah)

Long Time Gone
by Bob Dylan
My parents raised me tenderly,
I was their only son.
My mind got mixed with ramblin'
When I was all so young,
And I left my home the first time
When I was twelve and one.
I'm a long time a-comin', Maw,
An' I'll be a long time gone.
On the western side of Texas,
On the Texas plains,
I tried to find a job o'work
But they said I's young of age.
My eyes they burned when I heard,
"Go home where you belong!"
I'm a long time a-comin',
An' I'll be a long time gone.
I remember when I's ramblin'
Around with the carnival trains,
Different towns, different people,
Somehow they're all the same.
I remember children's faces best,
I remember travelin' on.
I'm a long time a-comin',
I'll be a long time gone.
I once loved a fair young maid
An' I ain't too big to tell,
If she broke my heart a single time,
She broke it ten or twelve.
I walked and talked all by myself,
I did not tell no one.
I'm a long time a-comin', babe,
An' I'll be a long time gone.
Many times by the highwayside,
I tried to flag a ride.
With bloodshot eyes and gritting teeth,
I'd watch the cars roll by.
The empty air hung in my head
I's thinkin' all day long.
I'm a long time a-comin',
An' I'll be a long time gone.
You might see me on your crossroads
When I'm a-passin' through.
Remember me how you wished to
As I'm a-driftin' from your view.
I ain't got the time to think about it,
I got too much to get done.
Well, I'm a long time comin'
An' I'll be a long time gone.
If I can't help somebody
With a word or song,
If I can't show somebody
They are travelin' wrong.
But I know I ain't no prophet
An' I ain't no prophet's son.
I'm just a long time a-comin'
An' I'll be a long time gone.
So you can have your beauty,
It's skin deep and it only lies.
And you can have your youth,
It'll rot before your eyes.
Just give to me my gravestone
With it clearly carved upon:
"I's a long time a-comin',
An' I'll be a long time gone.

What I remember about you
I remember a wonderful day
It was the day I met you for the first time
I don't remember what made that day so wonderful
Maybe it was the the way you could always have fun and you were always smiling
I remember the time I met you
It was July third 2005 at your neighbors house and you were setting off firework
I don't remember talking much on the third
but I am known for getting shy especally around new people that I haven't met
I remember the first question you asked me
It was Ahh, Hey do you want to come to my house and set off some firework tonight
I don't remember why I said yes that sounds like fun
Maybe it was your kind and caring voice I don't normally say yes even to my best friends
I remember a forth of July at your house
It was about seven o'clock and we setting off fireworks and a police officer told use to stop
I don't remember having such a blast sents then
Maybe it is because you are loads of fun to be around and you are the life of the party
I remember the first time we talked
It was July forth 2005 at your house when we met up for fireworks
I don't remember who started the conversations
and I normally don't forget that type of stuff this easily
I remember your three favorite colors
It was at school and you said your favorite colors are winter-white, black, and yellow
I don't remember what I did with the christmas presents
I did make one for you and some other friends Hmm..I think they are in my bedroom some where
I remember the first thing I gave you
It was the last day of school before Christmas break i gave you some kissable candies
I don't remember ever giving away chocolate before
I guess there is a first for every thing though even for me getting rid of candy
I remember your sixteenth birthday
It was March fourteenth 2006 and you passed your road test
I don't remember the last time I saw you outside of your car
I mean out side of school when I say that by the way nice music sounds like what I listen to

Heaven
Oh - thinkin' about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free
Now nothin' can take you away from me
We've been down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me comin' back for more
Chorus
Baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it here in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven
Oh - once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down
Ya-nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way
Chorus
I've been waitin' for so long
For somethin' to arrive
For love to come along
Now our dreams are comin' true
Through the good times and the bad
Ya - I'll be standin' there by you

Life Lesson
Listen to all
Listen to none
But remember this thing
You are the one who realize
Learn everything
Learn nothing
But remember this thing
You are the one who understand
Go everywhere
Go nowhere
But remember this thing
You are the one who search
Believe the hard one
Believe the easy one
But remember this thing
You are the one who follow
Think the worst
Think the finest
But remember this thing
You are the one who decide
Read what’s written
Read what’s hidden
But remember this thing
You are the one who feel
See the dark
See the light
But remember this thing
You are the one who watch
Dream the ordinary
Dream the impossible
But remember this thing
You are the one who hope
Try the best
Try the rest
But remember this thing
You are the one who fight
Say it straight
Say it carefully
But remember this thing
You are the one who mean it
Love you care
Love you don’t
But remember this thing
You are the one who give
Live the truth
Live the lie
But remember this thing
You are the one who grow
Do what you desire
Do what’s been ordered
But remember this thing
You are the one who responsible
Touch it rough
Touch it smooth
But remember this thing
You are the one who keep

I Wouldnt Ever Change A Thing
(rod stewart)
I wouldnt change a thing if I could live it all again
Ah listen
Its funny you know when you sit down
And think about what you had
About the friends you used to know
What happened, where did they all go
Can you remember happy hours
Spent drinkin and thinkin
We thought we could change the world
And we never, never, never, never, never
Never thought we could get much older then
We were the ones who loved to love the right to love
Wed bring it on home with the right song
Played at the right time
What happened to the girl that you loved once and left
Young man did you break her heart
Did she live, and did she marry,
Did she ever think on your face again
Ah now hold on a minute
I wouldnt change a thing if I could live it all again
Ah yeah
I think what you say is all so right
But I find it hard to jog my memories
Dont worry lou you may never get another chance yeah
Yes I think what you say is all so right
But I find it hard to move my memories
Say it again with a lot more feelin
And I think what you say is all so right
But I find it hard to find my memories
Dont sing so serious you make me feel so sad
But if I was true to myself
I would probably find it was a tear in my eye
That stopped me from believing you
Dont worry, dont worry, dont worry dont worry
You know my tongue gets tired
When I think back on all of the things we do
But I wonder if Ill remember these few precious things
As years pass me by
Ah when young bodies thatve grown older
And minds become dimmer
Ill point the finger back in time
I said I wouldnt change a thing if I could
If I could, if I could live it all again, yeah

0218 Paradise Known
O God - or may I call you Lord? –
I remember when I was a child,
You were my best friend, one who knew me
better than I knew myself;
and so I talked to You all the time,
especially when I’d been naughty;
then later on, it was taught me
that I’m made in Your image – that feels good…
I know, just as all children do,
what Paradise is, and where:
when the sun is out,
it’s in that wood beyond the field,
where I feel most myself;
but not quite out of sight of home;
and lots of other places just like that;
then when the sun goes in, I go in too,
and Paradise is - when I’m tired and fed,
and then all nice and read to, tucked up in bed;
and Paradise is in my head.
And then, I read in Genesis
how, out of Your immortal bliss,
the way You did it all;
and so, since we’re good friends
and I’m made in Your image,
I have some questions: You did a brilliant job
with fields and woods and animals
and human beings – well, some of them, the ones I like…
and it makes good sense
to have Adam there to look after it all, and to enjoy it;
and a nice idea too to have Eve as his companion –
who else could do the cooking while he’s out at work,
or remind him of the jobs to do around the house?
and if Adam had to have the babies too,
he wouldn’t then be able to go out and work as well…
But why couldn’t You have left it just like that?
you must have guessed that when grown-ups say
‘You’re not to eat the apples on that tree! ’
then you want to do just that,
not for the apples but
because you want to know
just why you shouldn’t do that anyway?
I mean, it’s human, isn’t it?
And if You don’t mind my saying this,
throwing them out of Paradise,
that seems a bit severe for such a crime?
couldn’t You have let them off, first time?
My teacher says ‘it’s all symbolic’ – that the message is
just to be ourselves, and not divide the world
into the ‘good’ and ‘bad’,
or always split our mind in two
or to think we know too much–
(did you tell my teacher that?) :
and that there are some of Your laws
which we must keep, which have just cause;
well, I’ll go along with that;
I never wanted – afterwards – to be naughty, anyway;
I’ve talked toYou about this often, and explained…
I’d like to think that when Adam and Eve
realised what they’d lost, and then said sorry,
they didn’t have to go around in guilt and sin
(Like miserable old Auntie Min..)
and, if Paradise is lost by us, but yet that’s known,
we can then return to what we own?
‘And they all lived happily ever after’
is what the old storybooks all tell me…
or is there perhaps some hidden clue,
like, we often ‘grow up’ and forget about You? …
*
My teacher says I’ve ‘simplified’ –
but didn’t You say, ‘Be as a child’?
Well, Lord, that’s how it seems to me;
and I’m Your child; would You agree?

Angels From Montgomery
Angel from montgomery
John prine
I am an old woman
Named after my mother,
My old man is another
Child thats grown old
If dreams were lightning
And thunder were desire
This old house would have burnt down
A long time ago
Make me an angel that flies from montgomery,
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to,
To believe in this livin is just a hard way to go
When I was a young girl
I had me a cowboy
He werent much to look at,
Just a free ramblin man.
But that was a long time
And no matter how I try,
The years just flow by
Like a broken down dam.
Make me an angel that flies from montgomery,
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to,
To believe in this livin is just a hard way to go
Theres flies in the kitchen
I can hear em in there buzzin
And I aint done nothin
Since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person
Go to work in the mornin
Come home in the evenin
And have nothin to say?
Make me an angel that flies from montgomery,
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
Just give me one thing that I can hold on to,
To believe in this livin is just a hard way to go
(repeat chorus)

Men Cleaning Women Cannot Abide
My wife said she was going out to shop,
I knew she'd be gone for hours,
So I cleaned the house from bottom to top,
Then went out and bought her some flowers.
On arriving home she asked what's that smell,
I boasted I had just cleaned the house,
With what she said it's like something from Hell,
It stinks like a hundred dead grouse.
By doing the cleaning I thought you'd be flattered,
She said exactly what have you cleaned,
That really left my giant ego shattered,
How dare she leave me feeling demeaned?
The house is filthy what did you use,
I replied the same stuff as you,
She said it's my intelligence you're trying to abuse,
I'll now have to start cleaning anew.
What have you done to my kitchen floor?
You've got it full of stellar streaks,
The worktops are scratched like an old barn door,
My mop bucket's now full of leaks.
The toilet is filthy I said no it's not,
She said look at the state of the pan,
You've left enough stains to play dot to dot,
As for cleaning you're now on a ban.
She'll be so impressed she'll be singing,
That's what I honestly thought,
Now she's saying I've got the house minging,
Remember good cleaners cannot be bought.
I walked away totally deluded and sad,
It's moan if we don't then moan if we do,
If they had a self- cleaning house they'd still go mad,
I'm going down to the pub for a brew.
The moral of my story affects far more than me,
It's a problem that is truly worldwide,
It's a sexist thing I'm sure all males would agree,
‘' Men Cleaning, Women Cannot Abide ‘'
‘' They think we do it deliberately''
