Sonnet: The Magic of Poverty

A birth in poverty is luck supreme!
A death in poverty, a great blessing;
A life of poverty is rare a dream;
Achievements great, stark poverty can bring.

’Tis poverty that goads nations do feats;
’Tis poverty that stimulates scientists;
In everything, poverty, wealth just beats;
The greatest men were in poverty’s lists.

And poverty lessens our worries much;
Account to God will be much easier;
Poverty gives the saint a divine touch;
In poverty, poets can fly higher!

Poverty helps to shun worldly pleasures;
A soul in poverty, Heaven allures.

The Shadow Inside My Shadow

poverty is not my cousin,
is not my lover,
is not my preacher,
poverty is not my brother.

poverty is not my prayer,
or the song that i sing
is not my answer
poverty is not my dream.

poverty is not my teacher,
not the hand that i hold.
poverty is not my anger,
not my spirit, not my soul.

ah! but this poverty is real
it races thru my mind
crashes into my heart,
& leaves me deaf and blind.

poverty is my companion.
the aching cold inside my hollow.
the blow behind my eyes,
poverty is the shadow
inside my shadow.

Poverty In The 21st Century

It’s the 21st century
The media displays it day and night,
Poverty.
Poverty across the globe lies
Poverty cries out from the belly of little boys
Little girls, parents too
Desperately searching for food,
Shelter, clothing, for love,
Companion, for attention
Those with plenty, refuse
To amend, a world haunted by
Poverty.

Is poverty affecting the rich?
Are their poverty the same
As the poor in financial constrains?
For they, too, poverty of love
I see poverty in the learned
I see poverty in those whose
Selfish acts are destroying society.
I see poverty in all level of humanity

The world is still an imperfect place
Yet life is still beautiful, the wind
Blows, we see it not, give thanks
For what you possess, now go,
Help if you can along the way,
Help to eradicate poverty
In your surrounding, widen
Your boundary across your
Country, to nations of the world.

Help to fight poverty, now!

If I Should Die Tomorrow And Today My Second Last Day

If i should die tomorrow and today my second last day
I should not be complaining since in life I've done okay
Never had to try to sleep hungry with the hard ground for a bed
And in all my years of living never once wished i were dead,
In a World of haves and have nots many of malnutrition die
And that everyone are equal is a World renowned lie
This World not an Utopia that fact few would deny
And i will not be complaining since few luckier than i
Tis said that poverty is a relative thing with that one must agree
And sad to say that millions live in abject poverty
I have seen a few Countries loved Nature as a boy
And i am not complaining a good life i enjoy
And if i should die tomorrow just leave me to rest in peace
from any cares or worries i will have found release.

Mother Teresa

We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.

So Deep

Almost half of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa
lives on less than one dollar a day
the highest level of poverty in the world.
My little neurotic sexual white mans mind is aloof

Rio De Janeiro at war
The rich amidst abject poverty
Drug gangs armed and desperate
Darling another silk stocking love poem

2 billion people make less than 2 dollars a day
Over a fourth of the world doesn't eat enough
Distribution of wealth is as real as death
Poverty, despair, gangs, guns, ignorance

2.6 billion people have poor sanitation
4100 children die a day from diarrhea
11,700 die a day from AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria
67.5 million children are out of school around the world

Kiss me with disdainful apathy
Suckle our we are going to heaven luxury
Our sweet so called Christian values
Darling isn't our relationship so deep

Poverty-I

Lot of hunger and having no food is poverty,

Not having spare cloth to take bath is poverty,

Needing a shelter but not having one is poverty,

Child's sick but can not buy treatment, is poverty,

Fainting child dreaming a mouthful of rice is poverty

Searching warmth in cold flesh in winter nights, is poverty,

Sitting with umbrella on wetting bed in showering night, is poverty,

Thoughtful mother, two mouthful of rice and three children, is poverty,

An ill, deserted mother selling her child wishing it will survive, is poverty.

A defeated and desponded mother poisoning and killing her child is poverty,

Song Of Revolution

Let those who know how to pray, pray
And those who can’t, wish
For we are getting to a stage
Where history will be re written
And all hell let loose.

Though no one ever pray for this
But wishful thinking is never enough.
How could the oppressor of people
Think the people will forever believe
Their propaganda of peace with poverty.

Let it be sang in the nooks and crannies
Of the geographical entity called Nigeria
That the poor will no longer have none it
That never are we going to be deceived again
By their crap of unity and suffering.

There cant be no peace without justice
Justice, my people, that will reach everywhere
Those that put our money away in unlit safe
Shall rot away in unlit prison cells
For offense and punishment must be equal.

So let those who know how to pray, pray
And those who cant, wish
For we cannot because of peace
Remains forever in abject poverty.

Many Must Grow Poorer

Millions will go to bed hungry tonight that does seem sad to say
And many of them will not wake again for to see another day
The sad fact that many die of malnutrition is sad cause for lament
Whilst billions in war by Governments are spent
Even in the World's wealthiest Nations people live in abject poverty
And the unequal distribution of wealth does seem all wrong to me
The wealthy getting wealthier whilst the homeless of poverty street
Are searching in the rubbish for thrown out food to eat
To have enough of food and shelter should be a basic human right
But millions must try to sleep hungry without shelter tonight
And many cannot feed their families on their meagre take home pay
In an egalatarian World things would never be this way
And many must grow poorer for every new millionaire
And for the hungry millions doesn't life seem so unfair.

Poverty-II

Satiated, desiring but not having enough food to offer some, is also poverty,

Sheltered, wishing, but failing to accommodate a guest, is also poverty,

Treated, prescribed, but unable to effort better treatment is also poverty,

Clothed, requiring but can't afford sufficient to meet the need is also poverty,

Educating, meritorious, but failing to provide better education is also poverty,

Social, invited but avoiding a ceremony to avoid buying a gift is also poverty,

Celebration, aspiring but fearing expenses not celebrating is also poverty,

Friend in distress, desiring but incompetent to help a friend is also poverty,

oppressed, rights denied, deciding but failing to buy justice is also poverty,

Time elapsed but not repaying debts for not having money is also poverty.

Mangan

Arguably the greatest poet old Ireland has seen
'Twas he penned the poem known as 'Dark Rosaleen'
In eighteen forty nine in his mid forties in poverty he died
Though true genius of him never can be denied
The great James Clarence Mangan Ireland's National bard
His journey through life was to say the least hard
He lived as he died in abject poverty
Yet one could not name many poets as great as he
From consumption and poor diet and neglect he died very young
For him no State funeral and he was unsung
Despite his hard life it seems a remarkable feat
That so many great poems the great poet did bequeath
To Ireland and it's people though he died just past his prime
As one of the poor souls of the Dublin of his time.

21st Century Cries.

21st century cries.

World has advanced in many ways, yet poverty still cries.
Looking at this old man with tears in his eyes.
Desperately searching for food love and clothes.
We all know what it clearly indicates and shows.

I see poverty in a rich man trying to break the law.
I see poverty in a well-educated man who thinks the subject is a bore.
I see poverty in a literate man who lacks respect for poor.
I see poverty in you yes you who wants more and more.

Poverty Is Here To Stay

Children picking food at the dump site
Scratching overgrown hair full of lice
Unclad youngsters playing in the muck
No program or drives to keep them tuck,
Thoughts torture their souls constantly
One difficulty that ensues incessantly:
Poverty is here to stay.

Begging at crossroads is not allowed
Police enjoy caning them avowed
They run, falling, exposing their parts.
Strive for survival an intense freaking.
Take to robbing and house breaking,
Land in jails and are called terrorists:
Poverty is here to stay.

Have no education for want of school cost
No defense for want of a solicitor provost
No identity card for want of official braids
No homes as shanties are on illegal lands,
Round up and evict them in massive raids
While Ministers aptly preach human rights:
Poverty is here to stay.

Teen boys and girls enter drug culture
As carriers they eye police as vultures.
Coke, cannabis, cocaine, Acne and Nice,
Deliver them cleverly to become an ace.
A living sex toy is next to virtuous vice
Rich use them as lifeless abject objects:
Poverty is here to stay.

A ten year old says Maoist do not wait
Five officers disarmed and tied as bait.
Ask a five hundred thousand payment.
Government agrees, says for 'upliftment'
In three hours it's money or bereavement.
Little one says: What will be, will be!
Poverty is here to stay.

Poverty

To get a card of
Below poverty line
I have to spot a person
Who has a link with Maoists.

Some says the head of the
Government of the state
Is the leader of maoists
Catchhold him seriously.

Who is poor and
How far in poverty
I am not here to
Measured or explain or
Eradicate poverty.

Without poverty the
Functioning of the
Government is difficult
As you know.

To get a card of
Below poverty line
Is to rebuild
The government and
You must agree
The rich how dear.

Deception

There is an infectious attraction to power,
even when it is oppressive and murderous.
The Uniformed and Articulate,
mobilized by the latest chariots,
deceived the trusting multitude.

Desperate and uneducated,
they flocked to the bossom
of the High Profiled.
Hoping to be drunk
with privilege;
In the end
they are fleeced.

Easily, they are appeased,
with promises of liberty and justice.
Even when for generations
their reality is abject poverty.
Some didn't even try.
Hoping to go to heaven
when they die.

Some are not really causes
But just symptoms
And we misdiagnose
A sickness
For a symptom
Of the real sickness

The cause
And the effect
Are often interchanged

For instance
Is poverty the cause
Of crime
Or is poverty
Only the symptom
Of it?

For instance
Is ignorance
The cause of poverty
Or is it simply
An effect of poverty?

Or is poverty
Nothing but an effect
Of ignorance?

Or is poverty
Just an effect
Of an oppression
Of the rich
Taking much
From the poor
Who gets poorer
Everyday
Because there
Are no reforms
Coming
To solve
His poverty
His ignorance
His having to commit a crime
To survive
His poverty
His ignorance
His being a crime
Of
Society itself
who never cared
And wanted him
Who never
Instituted the much
Promised reforms?

And so you doubt
The cause and effect
The effect from cause
And if you did not mind so
Well
They may always be
Interchanged
And mistaken
For the symptoms
The conditions
That always
Are
there deceiving.
