Will it not be felt that Virtue, however beautiful, becomes the worst of all attitudes when it is found too feeble to contend with Vice...

It is easier to run from virtue to vice, than from vice to virtue.
Virtue practiced to be seen is not real virtue; vice which fears to be seen is real vice.
Virtue And Vice
think of me
i'll think of you
we better think
this whole thing through
sometimes i'm so clumsy
you talk to me
i'll talk to you
you cut the fat
and we'll both chew
you know we're both hungry
i feel so alive today
that's all that i wanted to say
i hope that it stays this way
if not i will be okay
say another prayer
save another life
kiss me on my head
and tell me
everything's alright
'cause i can say it one
or i can shout it twice
all there really is
is virtue and vice
virtue and vice
cry to me
i'll cry to you
sometimes the pain will only do
you know i'm not kidding
you laugh with me
i'll laugh with you
at all the stupid things we do
tomorrow we'll be happy

Dark The Moods
Dark the moods.
Dark too those attitudes.
The ones that 'use' to visit and annoy,
When I felt quite defeated.
Dark the moods.
Dark too those attitudes.
I could not rid or alone leave.
On me they fed as if a feast to feed.
I had to freeze all emotions,
Shown and worn on my sleeve.
They were too easily revealed.
Too easily perceived.
I had to pick myself up,
Off my knees.
There was a comfort in it,
With a welcome of a hopelessness that pleased.
Dark the moods.
Dark too those attitudes.
I could not rid or alone leave.
On me they fed as if a feast to feed.
Dark the moods.
Dark too those attitudes.
The ones that 'use' to visit and annoy,
When I felt quite defeated.
I had to freeze all emotions worn on my sleeve.
Dark the moods.
Dark too those attitudes.
I had to pick myself up off my knees.
Dark the moods.
Dark too those attitudes.
They 'use' to visit me when I...
They 'use' to visit me when I...
They 'use' to visit me when I felt,
Quite DEFEATED!

Over-Virtue
Over-virtue is dangerous,
Unlike over-vice, which has
Conscience as its watch dog.
Over-virtue might do more harm.

Helpless
Day is warm, I hear
The wind and the trees
I know Im there, but Ill never be...
The wind is soft tonight
The tide is low
And I know the way
I never felt better, now
Sometimes life, it moves too slow
Slows to a crawl,
And then the poetry is lost
And without speed,
Hope becomes certainty
And for once, Im certain
I never felt better, now
A garden is its own perfect world
Where everything has a place
Mmm, every leaf, every stone
Every speck of dirt
But wheres my place?
I never felt better, now
I even tried
To get arrested today,
But everyone looked the other way
I count the hours
And I count the days
But for once, Im certain
I never felt better, now
Dont want your help
Dont need your help
Dont want your help
Dont need your help
Helpless x5
[you found a way to make me say, help me please someone] x2
The waters clean
I see that its full of dimes
For every wish, I wonder why
Why all I want
Is something beautiful
A place to rest
I never felt better now
(whistling)
Dont want your help
Dont need your help
Dont want your help
Dont need your help
You found a way to make me say, help me please someone x5
[helpless] (repeated)
Found a way, found a way,
Found a way to make me say, help me pleas someone
[help!!!] x12

Most Beautiful One
Tell me, why isn't there any more room left in your heart,
Most beautiful one of them all?
when you can't be found, the whole world falls apart.
Most beautiful one of them all.
It saddened me greatly,
like bridesmaids or daisies,
you told me you loved me not.
Now, I won't get my fill,
I have lost my free will
to the most beautiful one of them all.
I'll send a quick cable
as soon as I'm able
most beautiful one of them all.
In it, I'll tell you I'm fine,
while I'm losing my mind.
Most beautiful one of them all.
For a peck on the lips,
that was one helluva kiss.
I thought I'd felt everything
til I felt this.
Whatever the stakes,
I just can't resist,
the most beautiful one of them all.
Nearly died by the phone,
awaiting your call.
Most beautiful one of them all.
Where there could be a door
there's no entrance at all.
Most beautiful one of them all.
though shaken and nervous,
I'm still blood thick in your service,
Where, but here, could this have led
from the start?
I tried walking your horses,
before hitching the cart,
to the most beautiful one of them all.
Is that why there isn't any more room left in your heart,
Most beautiful one of them all?
My one and my only,
must we be apart?
Most beautiful one of them all.
No other's so right.
I'd rather lose than not fight
for your spotlights of neon, sunshine or moonlight.
You're what always and still gets me
through cold, lonely nights.
Most beautiful one of them all.
Tell me why isn't there any more room left in your heart?
Most beautiful one of them all.
When you can't be found my whole world falls apart.
Most beautiful one of them all.
It saddened me greatly like bridesmaids or daisies when you
told me you loved me not.
Now I won't get my fill til I've lost my free will to
the most beautiful one of them all.

Philosophy Of Beauty And The Beautiful
Simplicity is beauty,
Purity, divinity;
The virtue of quality
Excels that of quantity.
Beauty that pleases the sense is good,
Beauty and vitue are good,
Seek for things simple but noble,
Virtue alone can ennoble.
True beauty is simply graceful,
The graceful are beautiful,
There's beauty that's deceitful,
Nature itself is beautiful,
Beauty is perfection of form,
Virtue and good sense conforms,
Beautiful things may deform,
But virtue act in good form.

To The Countess Of Bedford II
TO have written then, when you writ, seem'd to me
Worst of spiritual vices, simony ;
And not to have written then seems little less
Than worst of civil vices, thanklessness.
In this, my debt I seem'd loth to confess ;
In that, I seem'd to shun beholdingness.
But 'tis not so ; nothings, as I am, may
Pay all they have, and yet have all to pay.
Such borrow in their payments, and owe more
By having leave to write so, than before.
Yet, since rich mines in barren grounds are shown,
May not I yield (not gold but) coal or stone ?
Temples were not demolish'd, though profane ;
Here Peter Jove's ; there Paul hath Dian's fane.
So whether my hymns you admit or choose,
In me you've hallowed a pagan muse,
And denizen'd a stranger, who, mistaught
By blamers of the times they marr'd, hath sought
Virtues in corners, which now bravelv do
Shine in the world's best part, or all it—you.
I have been told, that virtue in courtiers' hearts
Suffers an ostracism, and departs.
Profit, ease, fitness, plenty, bid it go ;
But whither, only knowing you, I know.
Your, or you virtue, two vast uses serves ;
It ransoms one sex, and one court preserves.
There's nothing but your worth, which being true
Is known to any other, not to you.
And you can never know it ; to admit
No knowledge of your worth, is some of it.
But since to you your praises discords be,
Stoop others' ills to meditate with me.
O ! to confess we know not what we should,
Is half excuse, we know not what we would.
Lightness depresseth us, emptiness fills ;
We sweat and faint, yet still go down the hills.
As new philosophy arrests the sun,
And bids the passive earth about it run,
So we have dull'd our mind ; it hath no ends ;
Only the body's busy, and pretends.
As dead low earth eclipses and controls
The quick high moon, so doth the body souls.
In none but us are such mix'd engines found,
As hands of double office ; for the ground
We till with them, and them to heaven we raise.
Who prayerless labours, or, without this, prays,
Doth but one half, that's none ; He which said,
“ Plough
And look not back,” to look up doth allow.
Good seed degenerates, and oft obeys
The soil's disease, and into cockle strays.
Let the mind's thoughts be but transplanted so
Into the body, and bastardly they grow.
What hate could hurt our bodies like our love ?
We, but no foreign tyrants, could remove
These not engraved, but inborn dignities,
Caskets of souls, temples and palaces ;
For bodies shall from death redeemed be,
Souls but preserved, born naturally free.
As men to our prisons now, souls to us are sent,
Which learn vice there, and come in innocent.
First seeds of every creature are in us ;
Whate'er the world hath bad, or precious,
Man's body can produce ; hence hath it been
That stones, worms, frogs, and snakes in man are seen.
But whoe'er saw, though nature can work so,
That pearl, or gold, or corn in man did grow ?
We've added to the world Virginia, and sent
Two new stars lately to the firmament.
Why grudge we us (not heaven) the dignity
To increase with ours those fair souls' company ?
But I must end this letter ; though it do
Stand on two truths, neither is true to you.
Virtue has some perverseness, for she will
Neither believe her good, nor others' ill.
Even in you, virtue's best paradise,
Virtue hath some, but wise degrees of vice.
Too many virtues, or too much of one,
Begets in you unjust suspicion ;
And ignorance of vice makes virtue less,
Quenching compassion of our wretchedness.
But these are riddles ; some aspersion
Of vice becomes well some complexion.
Statesmen purge vice with vice, and may corrode
The bad with bad, a spider with a toad.
For so, ill thralls not them, but they tame ill,
And make her do much good against her will.
But in your commonwealth or world in you,
Vice hath no office or good work to do.
Take then no vicious purge, but be content
With cordial virtue, your known nourishment.

The Best Bet On Chinaski - Better Day B-side
Henry took out all the wrong and never thought
Do you know what hed say, its a beautiful day
Henry took out all his money and found he had none
Do you know what hed say, its a beautiful day
And he would not buy the things that you were handing down
And he would not clear it off for you and leave you lying down
Henry found the love and he found it just today
Do you know what hed say, its beautiful day
Put my face in all the things that Ive never done
Do you know what hed say, its beautiful day
And he would not follow things that others said or done
And he would not follow things that you call everyone
cause henry found the note and he found it hard to give away
Do you know what hed say, its a beautiful thing
Bottled up a ticket to God knows where
Do you know what he said to the driver, its a beautiful day
And he would not follow things that you were handing down
And he would not buy the alternate news when the dogs were being drowned
cause henry found the love and he found it today
Do you know what hed say, its a beautiful thing
And you know what he knows, that its a beautiful day
And you know what hed say, that its a beautiful day
cause henry got it all and he found it just today
Do you know what hed say, its a beautiful day...

The Worst And The Best
in the hospitals and jails
it's the worst
in madhouses
it's the worst
in penthouses
it's the worst
in skid row flophouses
it's the worst
at poetry readings
at rock concerts
at benefits for the disabled
it's the worst
at funerals
at weddings
it's the worst
at parades
at skating rinks
at sexual orgies
it's the worst
at midnight
at 3 a.m.
at 5:45 p.m.
it's the worst

My Miss Beautiful
Beautiful is an underword to describe you,
Oh poor english, give me more words,
Dont envy me you lexicon,
I need words with virtue and weight,
Every lexicon I have opened,
Should I call her marvellous,
Well I am more than marvelling,
Should I call her beautiful,
She is not equal to others,
Since the lexicon cant give me more,
I will call her my miss beautiful
If beauty was a contest,
I bet she is winning,
Her smile, posture and eyes,
In others, I found it not
My miss beautiful,
Holding you in my arms,
Telling you, you are beautiful,
I denounce English,
She refused with words that suit you,
Stars are beautiful,
But you are not my star,
The rainbow is beautiful,
Yet you are not my rainbow,
You are far beyond that,
My miss beautiful

Collide
I felt my heart collapse
On the day that I met him
I felt my heart collapse
It filled up to the rim
I felt my heart collapse
When my eyes traveled 'round
I felt my heart collapse
The one I had found
I felt my heart collapse
When he first touched my skin
I felt my heart collapse
Oh it seemed a lovely sin
I felt my heart collapse
It fell without a sound
I felt my heart collapse
Oh I knew I had found
I felt my heart collapse
When we shared that first kiss
I felt my heart collapse
I thought that I would almost miss
I felt my heart collapse
I was lost in his embrace
I felt my heart collapse
I kept staring at his face
Oh my heart collapsed on that day
Ever since it's been that same way
My love for you has not faded
Ever since the day it escaped

A Ballad of Gentleness
The firste stock-father of gentleness,
What man desireth gentle for to be,
Must follow his trace, and all his wittes dress,
Virtue to love, and vices for to flee;
For unto virtue longeth dignity,
And not the reverse, safely dare I deem,
All wear he mitre, crown, or diademe.
This firste stock was full of righteousness,
True of his word, sober, pious, and free,
Clean of his ghost, and loved business,
Against the vice of sloth, in honesty;
And, but his heir love virtue as did he,
He is not gentle, though he riche seem,
All wear he mitre, crown, or diademe.
Vice may well be heir to old richess,
But there may no man, as men may well see,
Bequeath his heir his virtuous nobless;
That is appropried to no degree,
But to the first Father in majesty,
Which makes his heire him that doth him queme,
All wear he mitre, crown, or diademe.
