To Miss Edith M. Thomas
Your Pegasus, Edith, is hitched to a star,
While mine drags along a Sixth Avenue car;
Yours bears you away to the far empyrean,
Mine carries me down through the quarters plebeian.
Now, soaring aloft, you stop at Antares,
Call it home, that 's the place for Penates and Lares;
Or back to old Greece with her heroes and gods,
You get up a flirtation in sonnets and odes.
(Though they hailed from Olympus, that classical spot,
These "old parties," confess, were a pretty bad lot.)
Then with dear Mother Nature you make very free
To fathom her secrets of bird, flower, and tree;
To live with her ever on intimate terms,
A freedom on your part, she always confirms,
Although so exclusive she is with the rest of us,
Never giving her password or key to the best of us.
But you have them both, and can seek at your pleasure
Her most secret haunts, her most precious treasure;
And she calls you in accents as winning and mild,
As some fond old grandmother calls a pet child.
The round of my Pegasus lies through the town;
He travels and travels, now up, and now down;
I pull on the strap, and he willingly stops,
And leaves me to visit the markets and shops.
(My car, you perceive, is the bobtail variety
So little admired by the press and society.)
But wherever we go he signally fails
To lift me above the street levels and rails.
So you see that our steeds are not matched for a race,
And with all best endeavors can never keep pace.

Our Piece Of Heaven
Heaven is where the heart lies
and the heart lies where it calls home
and home is always
where you hang your hat.
So this conclusion is evident
heaven has to be a place
we call our home.
We can travel the world far and wide;
enjoy the places that we visit.
We are always thankful
whenever our travels end
and we are back where we started.
Our piece of heaven
that place we call our home.

PEGASUS and BELLEROPHONTE
His Creator was Sea God Poseidon
This winged-horse Pegasus demigod
Spiral horn on forehead his talisman
The Gods of Mt Olympus were awed
Pegasus delivered lightning bolts
When Zeus warred against men
When He put down their revolts
Men are prone to sin now n’ then
One day while drinking from a spring
Hero Bellerophonte captured Pegasus
As hero mounted, with deep voice did sing
“I’m coming for you Chimera”
Then tested flying horse flight n’agileness
They flew afar to slay a hideous monster…
Possessed of lion’s head, goat’s body, serpent’s tail
Whose breath could melt a fighting soldier’s armor
Confidently, astride Pegasus the hero could not fail
From high above they saw the ugly beast
As she wreaked death n’ havoc on the land
Into a downward dive, their speed increased
“The clash of the titans” was at hand
Bellerophonte drew a sword, the monster did behead
Pegasus hoofed Chimera, ensured she was dead
They placed the monster’s head in a basket
Then set off for Mt Olympus far away
At the “Golden gate” the two were met
Welcomed by gods and demigods that day
Heroes come in all shapes n’ sizes
Who justly deserve accolades ‘n prizes

Pegasus
(clarke / hicks / nash)
Follow me, follow, see what you see.
Ill take somewhere where youve never been.
High on a mountain, deep down in the sea,
To faraway lands, you can travel with me.
Im pegasus, the flying horse.
Im pegasus, the flying horse.
Ride on my back and hold onto my wings
Ill take you by night to a time-leaping dream.
Time has no value where were going to
People are happy; there, theyre never blue.
Chorus
This can only happen to you
If you keep our secret.
Dont tell anyone about our magic horse.
You can go where you want, I can take you anywhere.
Because Im pegasus, the flying horse.
Im pegasus, the flying horse.

Im pegasus, the flying horse.

The Beast
The beast by no better name called love
I’m so much alone
I’ve got no one to call my own
How I want to pick up the phone
And call you sometimes
In the mirror I steer
But I see no one there
Does any really cares
I’m so lonely I could die
I’d forget you if I could
But now forgetting does me no good
How I wish you would come on home
You never took the time to realize
That without you my heart dies
How could you leave me so lonely
I find it hard to carry on
Now that love has gone
I have made such a mistake
Nothing will ever be the same
I plaid a foolish game
Now I’m hear all by myself
How could this ever be
When you left you took the better part of me
But I know I have to let you go
If I could take back yesterday I would
To slay a dragon I could
Only if you would come back to me
Just a chance to hold your hand
I could be that better man
But you look at me with so much scorn
Inside I’m a hollow shell
My soul has died and gone to hell
Seeing you no longer want to be with me
Belittle spirit in despair
Look at me if you dare
And you will see I have nothing left to live for
For what you’ve done I can forgive
For without you I can not live
Every day I live is a lie
To steel a star I would try
A greater treasure I could never find
To me your love is so divine
I’d pay the devil to make you once more mine
The highest mountain I would clime
Just to hold one more time
How can I apologize for the past
Mine eyes are open at last
I can finally see clearly now
So I must win you back some how
It might take me forever
Loving you I can stop never
When God calls me home and puts me to the test
I will pass knowing that I tried my best
So I write you this simply letter
Knowing that I could have done better
For the time we’ve spend together
These memories I will treasure
As the sun rises in the east
My heart was slain by the beast
The beast by no better name called love

Foolin
You let me follow you around
It helped your status in the town
Well I didnt know your name
Theres no truth in what you claim
So I think you better stop this foolin round
I think its called a lesson learned
When one so close suddenly turns
Leaves you standing on your own
Got no place to call your home
So I think you better stop this foolin round
Now its my time to make amends
Hope my message dont offend
And I hope this doesnt drive you round the bend
Leaves you standing on your own
Got no place to call your home
So I think you better stop this foolin round
Yes, I think you better stop this foolin round
Yes, I think you better stop this foolin round

Childhood’s Retreat
It’s in the perilous boughs of the tree
out of blue sky the wind
sings loudest surrounding me.
And solitude, a wild solitude
’s reveald, fearfully, high I’d climb
into the shaking uncertainties,
part out of longing, part daring my self,
part to see that
widening of the world, part
to find my own, my secret
hiding sense and place, where from afar
all voices and scenes come back
—the barking of a dog, autumnal burnings,
far calls, close calls— the boy I was
calls out to me
here the man where I am “Look!
I’ve been where you
most fear to be.”

The Traveling Wind
I feel a breeze of wind
It is as soft as a baby
It travels along the land
It comforts the grass that beetles, ants, and grasshoppers make their way through
Ants continue to make their home that is only but dirt to humans
Dirt to ants is a brick to build a home
The breeze of wind continues to travel
The black and orange bird looks for food
It chirps around
It pecks in the grass
The bird finally travels away along with the wind
All is quiet but the crying of the leaves that are sticking out of the ground
Their hands, which are thorns, are reaching out to be comforted
The traveling wind goes and comforts them
Th wind travels elsewhere

The Traveller
Reply to Rudyard Kipling’s ‘He travels the fastest who travels alone.’
Who travels alone with his eye on the heights,
Though he laughs in the day time oft weeps on the nights;
For courage goes down at the set of the sun,
When the toil of the journey is all borne by one.
He speeds but to grief though full gaily he ride
Who travels alone without love at his side.
Who travels alone without lover of friend
But hurries from nothing, to naught at the end.
Though great be his winnings and high be his goal,
He is bankrupt in wisdom and beggared in soul.
Life’s one gift of value to him is denied
Who travels alone without love at his side.
It is easy enough in this world to make haste
If one live for that purpose – but think of the waste;
For life is a poem to leisurely read,
And the joy of the journey lies not in its speed.
Oh! vain his achievement and petty his pride
Who travels alone without love at his side.

The Sour Lemon Tree
A sour lemon tree flower attracts the bee
While its fruit is bitter not so its flower
White is its flower sweet and very pretty
Only the fruit is bitter and that's just a pity
As the beauty of its flower resist not a bee
It's the simple truth
Or see the sour lemon tree
With fruit that is bitter bears a lemon tree
But useful is its fruit good for everyday use
Once said a bee... your flower is very sweet
It carries fragrance scented out in the street
Yet bears you fruit bitter no one wants to eat
It's partly the truth
Or see the sour lemon tree
A citrus tree with fruit no other tree bears
Then out of the tree came a nice neat voice
'Twas like a voice of one who's very wise
This is what it said trees are not so free
One made a decree for every bearing tree
It's partly the truth
Or see the sour lemon tree
The Creator decides the fruit a tree bears
Whether it be bitter or whether it be sweet
The Creator decrees for every bearing tree
To bring forth fruit ordained for it to bear
Then sweet or bitter bears a tree its fruit
It's the simple truth
Or see the sour lemon tree.

Who Helen Was
She wasn't a singer or some movie star
She was in my heart, that place now a scar
She didn't win awards or gain any fame
She's in heaven now, there are those at blame
Her life was so sad from begining to end
But she was always, considered my friend
They abused her so much and took all she had
I loved her always, good times and bad
I tried to move her out of that horrible place
The angels took her home, only by gods grace
Her life was tormented for so many years
She's free now and i'm left with so many tears
What could i have done to make it better
They will know her name, that's why this letter
They took her dignity and self respect
This is one debt that god will collect
You can't destroy god's children and still be free
At judgement day, you'll pay a great fee
She's gone from this life to a better place
When the angels come i'll see her face
They cannot hurt her anymore
With eagle wings she'll finally soar
Helen was my precious mother
All that's left is my sister and brother
Your day is coming mother dear
And those who hurt you have much to fear
Vengeance is mine said the lord
He will strike down with his mighty sword
So once more mother, i will say good night
Rest easy my sweet, it's no longer your fight!

This Life Called Mine
This life called mine
Is not under your shadow.
Not under your beck and call.
Not living under that,
Not living it or giving it under that.
This life called mine...
Is exactly what it is.
Mine.
And not yours to say,
When I should put out.
Or when you feel the need to put in!
This life called mine...
I call it a condo.
I own all that which is inside.
And all that is outside of me...
God takes care of.
And I'm not charged a maintainance fee.
And I'm not trying to break my lease...
Either.
Or leave unexpectedly!
At least...
Give me some kind of a 50 year notice.
This life called mine.
And I've become fond,
Of Mother Nature's wholesomeness.
Fine it is,
This life of mine.
Fine it is,
The gloriousness of it.
I'd be out of my mind,
Not to fine the life I love to live...
Fine.
And I thank The Divine.

The Secrets We Keep
we keep secrets, i keep mine, like some jewels inside my heart,
they glow in the night even on a very slight stab of light
and i keep on hiding them, covering them with so much tenderness
like silk cloth and cord keeping a love letter that i have written
(unmailed) many years ago,
i keep my secrets like i keep my life, like the way i keep my friendship with you
for years and years,
these secrets keep me alive, giving me the desires to live a good life
you sometimes ask me what these are
and i give you the hint
about my oceans of choices, and you say, these secrets must be anything
and i am telling you, no, they are not anything, because there is no such
thing as anything when you know how to love and be still true
no matter what, even if you get old and no one remembers you
and cares for you, when what is near you is nothing but just the grave
and some flowers for the dead,
sigh
you have yours too, keep them, these secrets, treasure them, more than you
treasure yourself,
these secrets are the meanings you put to your life
not really figments of your imagination, or illusions, or air, or vapor
they are something beyond that, let us say, these are the spiritual ones
ask me more, nothing in particular, these are those that exist in the ocean
of choices, and they are more than anything, if fact they can be
everything, but for one thing, let me assure you
all these have this ingredient, this element, this main part:
it is still love in there, and the rest could be anything in your mind,
that is the secret.

Armenian Folk-Song--The Partridge
As beats the sun from mountain crest,
With 'pretty, pretty',
Cometh the partridge from her nest;
The flowers threw kisses sweet to her
(For all the flowers that bloomed knew her);
Yet hasteneth she to mine and me--
Ah! pretty, pretty;
Ah! dear little partridge!
And when I hear the partridge cry
So pretty, pretty,
Upon the house-top, breakfast I;
She comes a-chirping far and wide,
And swinging from the mountain side--
I see and hear the dainty dear!
Ah! pretty, pretty;
Ah! dear little partridge!
Thy nest's inlaid with posies rare.
And pretty, pretty
Bloom violet, rose, and lily there;
The place is full of balmy dew
(The tears of flowers in love with you!)
And one and all impassioned call;
'O pretty, pretty--
O dear little partridge!'
Thy feathers they are soft and sleek--
So pretty, pretty!
Long is thy neck and small thy breast;
The color of thy plumage far
More bright than rainbow colors are!
Sweeter than dove is she I love--
My pretty, pretty--
My dear little partridge!
When comes the partridge from the tree,
So pretty, pretty!
And sings her little hymn to me,
Why, all the world is cheered thereby--
The heart leaps up into the eye,
And echo then gives back again
Our 'Pretty, pretty,'
Our 'Dear little partridge!'
Admitting the most blest of all
And pretty, pretty,
The birds come with thee at thy call;
In flocks they come and round they play,
And this is what they seem to say--
They say and sing, each feathered thing;
'Ah! pretty, pretty;
Ah! dear little partridge!'

To A Silvereye
I see you almost every day you fly from tree to tree
And I envy you your happiness for you are wholly free
You tiny insect eating bird in olive fawn and gray
And I feel glad so very glad to see you every day.
No boss to order you around to tell you what to do
Wish you were me dear tiny bird and wish that I were you
For you have freedom in your wings the freedom of the sky
And I envy you your happiness dear tiny silvereye.
On garden tree and green hedgerow close to the homes of men
I see you almost every day you and your tiny kin
From garden tree to garden tree and to and fro you wing
And midst the leaves the sunlit leaves you preen and chirp and sing.
I see you almost every day from tree to tree you fly
And I envy you your happiness the freedom of the sky
And I've a wish a secret wish when my turn come to die
That I will come to life again a tiny silvereye.

If This World Was Mine
If this world were mine, I would stop people from killing each other.
I would give money to the poor.
If this world were mine, I would stop people from selling drugs to little kids.
If this world were mine, I would make sure that kids would go to school.
I would make sure there was enough food to eat.
If this world were mine, I would stop the war.
If this world were mine, I would make sure fathers paid child support.
If this world were mine, I would try to make this world a better place to live in.
If this world were mine, I would stop people from drinking and driving.
If this world were mine, we would all love each other as one.

Boadicea (Mother's touch) Ft Rekha Mandegere
At one late night
Behind the wall
Through the window
Where all life pull the blanket
Except one sleepless at night
The aid of moonlight
The shadow reveal secret,
A women stand hugging a child
Crying because the bites of cold night
Or maybe a nightmare played in the dark
She sat and kissed,
deliver warmest hug
Her calming sounds
Tunes move from her lips
Whispering a soulful lullaby
Original song composed by heart
'Lovely star, I tell the world
What a precious gift is mine
Nothing can match with its golden shine'
Close the eyes, tiny one
Swayed by the secure
The child fall asleep again
The child always love
And be loved forever
When the world turn down
She comes with her palm on our face
'Sweet child, make the world smiles
A lovely pole star, my twinkled bright'
'Standing at the height of the sky
Above all the hills and dales
It’s nature of law, none can forgo
Thunderstorms will come and go'
Oh Lord, you stop my worry
Her wisdom make life sound easy
Her words Her love
Carry anywhere
with love affair
Her cry Her strength
Birthing love to life
Feeding little with care
She carrying you in heart
Respect her whole heart
A mother in anywhere
Hold a responsibility from Him
Embracing child as He sent
Beautiful life circulate fairly treat
A child, anyone, everywhere
Hold a responsibility from Him
Respect her, care and love
Till one day
Could be a day
In one silent night,
The child comes near
Whispering dear to ears
A kiss upon her silver hair
to sing familiar tunes flare
'Lovely Ma, I share to the world
What a precious gift is mine
Nothing can match with her golden shine'
Time will reveal for a child
See her smile listening her cradle song back to her :)

The Emigrant Mother
ONCE in a lonely hamlet I sojourned
In which a Lady driven from France did dwell;
The big and lesser griefs with which she mourned,
In friendship she to me would often tell.
This Lady, dwelling upon British ground,
Where she was childless, daily would repair
To a poor neighbouring cottage; as I found,
For sake of a young Child whose home was there.
Once having seen her clasp with fond embrace
This Child, I chanted to myself a lay,
Endeavouring, in our English tongue, to trace
Such things as she unto the Babe might say:
And thus, from what I heard and knew, or guessed,
My song the workings of her heart expressed.
I
'Dear Babe, thou daughter of another,
One moment let me be thy mother!
An infant's face and looks are thine,
And sure a mother's heart is mine:
Thy own dear mother's far away,
At labour in the harvest field:
Thy little sister is at play;--
What warmth, what comfort would it yield
To my poor heart, if thou wouldst be
One little hour a child to me!
II
'Across the waters I am come,
And I have left a babe at home:
A long, long way of land and sea!
Come to me--I'm no enemy:
I am the same who at thy side
Sate yesterday, and made a nest
For thee, sweet Baby!--thou hast tried,
Thou know'st the pillow of my breast;
Good, good art thou:--alas! to me
Far more than I can be to thee.
III
'Here, little Darling, dost thou lie;
An infant thou, a mother I!
Mine wilt thou be, thou hast no fears;
Mine art thou--spite of these my tears.
Alas! before I left the spot,
My baby and its dwelling-place;
The nurse said to me, 'Tears should not
Be shed upon an infant's face,
It was unlucky'--no, no, no;
No truth is in them who say so!
IV
'My own dear Little-one will sigh,
Sweet Babe! and they will let him die.
'He pines,' they'll say, 'it is his doom,
And you may see his hour is come.'
Oh! had he but thy cheerful smiles,
Limbs stout as thine, and lips as gay,
Thy looks, thy cunning, and thy wiles,
And countenance like a summer's day,
They would have hopes of him;--and then
I should behold his face again!
V
''Tis gone--like dreams that we forget;
There was a smile or two--yet--yet
I can remember them, I see
The smiles, worth all the world to me.
Dear Baby! I must lay thee down;
Thou troublest me with strange alarms;
Smiles hast thou, bright ones of thy own;
I cannot keep thee in my arms;
For they confound me;--where--where is
That last, that sweetest smile of his?
VI
'Oh! how I love thee!--we will stay
Together here this one half day.
My sister's child, who bears my name,
From France to sheltering England came;
She with her mother crossed the sea;
The babe and mother near me dwell:
Yet does my yearning heart to thee
Turn rather, though I love her well:
Rest, little Stranger, rest thee here!
Never was any child more dear!
VII
'--I cannot help it; ill intent
I've none, my pretty Innocent!
I weep--I know they do thee wrong,
These tears---and my poor idle tongue.
Oh, what a kiss was that! my cheek
How cold it is! but thou art good;
Thine eyes are on me--they would speak,
I think, to help me if they could.
Blessings upon that soft, warm face,
My heart again is in its place!
VIII
'While thou art mine, my little Love,
This cannot be a sorrowful grove;
Contentment, hope, and mother's glee,
I seem to find them all in thee:
Here's grass to play with, here are flowers;
I'll call thee by my darling's name;
Thou hast, I think, a look of ours,
Thy features seem to me the same;
His little sister thou shalt be;
And, when once more my home I see,
I'll tell him many tales of Thee.'

Sonnet 46
Mine eye and heart are at a mortal war,
How to divide the conquest of thy sight;
Mine eye my heart thy picture's sight would bar,
My heart mine eye the freedom of that right.
My heart doth plead that thou in him dost lie,
A closet never pierced with crystal eyes,
But the defendant doth that plea deny,
And says in him thy fair appearance lies.
To 'cide this title is impannelled
A quest of thoughts, all tenants to the heart;
And by their verdict is determined
The clear eye's moiety, and the dear heart's part:
As thus: mine eye's due is thine outward part,
And my heart's right, thine inward love of heart.

U Make My Sun Shine
Come on over here baby, uh
Put your ass right down here on this throne, yeah
Don't you say n'ere a little word
Until you learn how to leave, leave that devil alone
Let me run it down, I keep your paper coming in real steady
I could tell you what the I in the pimp stands for
If your ready, ready, ready
Your eyes are wide shut you cannot even see
That behind your back, he calls you names
But you're still a queen to me
CHORUS:
In this trusting place you can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time you waste in that paper chase
Is time better spent in these arms of mine
Heaven sent angel so divine
You're my complement
U make my sun shine
U make my sun shine at night
(ooh ohh ohh, ohh ohh ohh ohh)
Listen to me now baby
Let me tell ya what I gotta do (tell ya)
I gotta stop lettin' the devil
(define what it takes to be a woman)
Stop lettin' him tell me what it takes to be a woman
Gotta never stop believing in me, myself, and I
Pretty little lies that the rich keep using
I opened up my eyes,
The only reason they're winning is 'cause I keep losing
Gotta get back to my right place
This is the subject of my show
We love the human race
This is where I belong
Chorus
Wonderfully, truly, caring you make the words I wish in every song.
Come here now pretty baby let me take you somewhere and put you real close
We've both been in the dark much too long
Now that we got the knowledge and the truth we can both be strong
Kings and Queens gettin' it on!
Trusted place you can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time you waste (wasted time)
In that paper chase
(Can't you see that it's all time better spent right here)
Is time better spent in these arms of mine,
(Sweet angel)
Heaven sent angel so divine (You're so divine)
You're my complement
U make my sun shine
U make my sun shine at night
Feel me
Sun shine, sun shine, sun shine at night
