It's easier to play a dim character, for me, because I have a natural bent for comedy. It's not intrinsic for me to be crafty, so I would have to go outside for a source of origin. I think of myself as pretty dim.

Sometimes I would like the opportunity to do character-driven comedy and that's really what I was trying to do in Meet The Parents. I think in a way this is a more old fashioned type of comedy.
I think a character in a comedy should not know they're in a comedy.

When someone who is known for being comedic does something straight, it's always "a big breakthrough" or a "radical departure". Why is it no one ever says that if a straight actor does comedy? Are they presuming comedy is easier?

Well this girl came up to me - she says shes new in town

I thought they were right but I didnt wanna know

It’s difficult to dress a woman
According to her wish,

Identifying and overcoming natural fear is one of the pleasing struggles intrinsic to climbing.
All the parts I get offered are character and comedy parts, and I probably wouldn't get them if I had a different face. So I'm glad I have a comedy face.

I think a lot of the instincts you have doing comedy are really the same for doing drama, in that it's essentially about listening. The way I approach comedy, is you have to commit to everything as if it's a dramatic role, meaning you play it straight.

Finally, after a lot of searching and digging, it was simply the love of family that gave me a road into the character. Once I got into that, and we delved into what it would be like to survive cancer and the ability to see how precious life is, it became easier to play her.
