A composition in a ricefield
The white herons
Are commas
The carabaos are periods
An eagle flying over my head
Is the head note
The trees are the margins
And the fences
The nipa huts
Are footnotes
The rice field is one big
Pad of paper
And so this is the composition
Of a ricefield
Commas on top of periods
Two head notes will do
Four footnotes
Can make a story of a village
My hand is always the ampersand
And I think
Like there are no carabaos on this pad of paper.

One Last Letter
writing one last letter...
not sure who it's to
- dont think it matters!
the words are composed of
the things i've done... both
good and bad.
the commas are for my mistakes,
-Lord, we're gonna have a lot of commas!
mistakes both of omission,
and commission...
the periods are for the times
i gave up, quit trying,
lost my way...
but the body of the letter
is filled with hope....
hope that sees things as
they are, and still believes...
i dont have to sign this letter,
it looks, smells, and tastes
like me...
i'll put this letter in the mailbox,
addressed to occupant,
to whomever gets it...
address unknown!

There are periods in history when change is necessary, and other periods when it is better to keep everything for the time as it is. The art of life is to be in the rhythm of your age.

Poetics 7....
the words of passion
keep me alive
each syllable is a red
corpuscle
the phrases are
taking in commas,
more of them
are making life a little
bit suspenseful
hang in there
hold more hands
these commas
grip and stay cool
like a poem
heartily written

I have been in the series for over 3 years - 3 series. There will be a fourth series next year which of course I won't be in because I'm now dead. So in total I appeared in 25 episodes.

I'm married now, so I have a life. I had to get a life. That's one thing I really had to do, you know. You do that kind of work on television series after television series and you don't have a life. So, that's part of what I did while I was gone, I got a life.

In comparing therefore the value of the same commodity, at different periods of time, the consideration of the comparative skill and intensity of labour, required for that particular commodity, needs scarcely to be attended to, as it operates equally at both periods.

Footprints in the sand
One night I dreamed I was walking
Along the beach with the Lord,
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints.
Other times there was only one.
This bothered me because I noticed
During the low periods of my life when I was
Suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, “You promised me,
Lord, that if I followed you,
You would walk with me always.
But I noticed during the most trying periods
Of my life there has only been
One set of prints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
Have you not been there for me?
The Lord replied,
“The times when you have seen only one set of footprints
It was then that I carried you.”

Love Always
Love without commas
no death dealing pauses
to romance
caesurae suspended
and held in abeyance
for deep flowing love
to have room to unfold
gentle blossom so strong
it survives to unfurl
after the storm of riotous living
and pours a new landscape
for I and I
i and i to inhabit
combining like good food
to something nutritious
feeding cells
feeding love
feeding life
u and i
lowercase
and completed
i and u
mirrored backwards
and forward forever
a thread tightly woven
from Source
love without commas
or conditional clauses
no demands no refusals
just wide open ocean
to play in
rejoice in
love undone
and expansive
i and i unconstrained
deconstructed and molded
into something that lives
our love
without commas.

Series Of Dreams
I was thinking of a series of dreams
Where nothing comes up to the top
Everything stays down where its wounded
And comes to a permanent stop
Wasnt thinking of anything specific
Like in a dream, when someone wakes up and screams
Nothing too very scientific
Just thinking of a series of dreams
Thinking of a series of dreams
Where the time and the tempo fly
And theres no exit in any direction
cept the one that you cant see with your eyes
Wasnt making any great connection
Wasnt falling for any intricate scheme
Nothing that would pass inspection
Just thinking of a series of dreams
Dreams where the umbrella is folded
Into the path you are hurled
And the cards are no good that youre holding
Unless theyre from another world
In one, numbers were burning
In another, I witnessed a crime
In one, I was running, and in another
All I seemed to be doing was climb
Wasnt looking for any special assistance
Not going to any great extremes
Id already gone the distance
Just thinking of a series of dreams

Nothing I Know
I do not know,
The whys, hows and the whens
Of life,
The syllables of life
The dashes, the hyphens
And pauses of life,
The inverted commas,
And long parted traumas
Of life,
The aims of life, the games of life,
The forms of life, the norms of life,
Only I know that,
Nothing I know,
And no need to know,
what I know not.
That is all.

Full stops and commas
Life's full of punctuation if we only stop to see,
like the middle of a rain storm or a lovely cup of tea.
Some are marked as commas, some as asterisks
I bet you've had some commas, take stock and think a bit.
A colon is a long pause for something that I treasure
such as a special friend, although it's hard to measure.
Apostrophe's a hiccup for something that I've missed
and if it's you I'm sorry, for sometimes I'm remiss.
Full stops are very sad for that's when someone dies
and though we know it happens, it startles hearts and minds.
That's when my heart stops beating for just a tick or tock,
I stumble and I falter, a colon stops the clock.
Life's full of punctuation if we only stop to see,
like the pausing of the traffic or the falling of a leaf.
Without some punctuation life's meaning would be less,
you may give this some thought, (in brackets would be best)

Too Much Truth...
when we arrive here
we carried with us our own lies
we keep them
and we survived
when they come and see us
for the first time
they keep wondering why unlike
them we glow with happiness
we did not tell them the truth as usual
we believe that it is not necessary
from that distant place where we left
we have seen how too much of truth
has killed the land and its natives
how the lies were driven away like flies
they swat what are some of the possibilities
those white ghosts
those black birds that guide us to places
that we never once imagine
what we discover are islets of desires
those that they shy away from
we have masks that protect us from so much brightness
we have boots from mud
we have words
and with their pretensions we have learned the art of
hedonistic euphemisms
the artistry of phrases the promises of incomplete clauses
some periods are angry
but our commas still smile.

If you'll think about various series you've read, can you think of any instance in which, say, the tenth volume of the series is notably better than the first nine? I can't.

The only thing that's changed is the competitiveness of the series. It's only become harder to win in our series as the years have gone by. Competition breeds good things, and that's what's happened here.
