Ridin The Rodeo
Driving all night too many miles to go
Pedal tot he metal listenin to the radio
I got three days to get from cheyenne to san antone
Thats the life of a cowboy ridin the rodeo
My back sides sore and Im movin kinda slow
But when I hit okie city theres a barrel racer that I know
A little home cookin and some lovin to heal my bones
Thats the life of a cowboy ridin the rodeo
Ride cowboy ride hold on for your life
Eight seconds is a long long time when youre sitting on dynamite
You cant make money buddy if get thrown
Thats the life of a cowboy ridin the rodeo
Well I might get lucky down in san antone
Find a little texas girl I could call my own
That lone star lovins the best Ive ever known
Thats the life of a cowboy ridin the rodeo
Ride cowboy ride hold on for your life
Eight seconds is a long long time when youre sitting on dynamite
You cant make money buddy if get thrown
Thats the life of a cowboy ridin the rodeo
Thats the life of a cowboy ridin the rodeo

Lonesome Cowboy Bill
(reed)
Lonesome cowboy bill
Rides the rodeo.
Lonesome cowboy bill,
You got to see him yodel ay-hee-ho!
Lonesome cowboy bill
Rides the rodeo.
Ever since he was a little lad,
Loves the rodeo.
Bucking broncs, yeah, sipping wine,
You got to see him go,
And all the ten-gallon girls
Love to hear him yodel ay-hee-ho!
Because
Lonesome cowboy bill
Rides the rodeo.
Lonesome cowboy bill,
You got to see him yodel ay-hee-ho!
Oh, lonesome cowboy bill,
You still ride the rodeo.
Up round the colorado shore,
Down by the ohio.
Sometimes even new orleans,
Down by the mardi gras,
And all the ten-gallon girls
Love to hear him yodel ay-hee-ho!
Hes lonesome cowboy bill, he rides the rodeo.
Just a lonesome cowboy bill,
You got to see him yodel ay-hee-ho!
You got to see him in the rodeo
When hes ridin, goin too darn fast.
You got to hear the people scream and shout
They call him,
Lonesome cowboy bill
Hes a
Lonesome cowboy bill
He goes...
Lonesome cowboy bill
Rides the rodeo.
Lonesome cowboy bill,
You got to see him yodel ay-hee-ho!
I said,
You got to see him yodel ay-hee-ho!
Oh hes a lonesome cowboy bill, lonesome cowboy bill...

Rodeo
Laughin like gypsies show to show
Living my life like a rolling stone
This is how my story unfolds
Traveling man, never at home
Cant find love so I sleep alone
This whisky river has a long way to flow
All that I know is life on this road
Long way from home
In this rodeo
Rodeo, rodeo, rodeo, rodeo
Not my home
Another day, another night on stage
Lights go down, time to turn the page
Was this all I ever wanted to be
Six hundred miles the highway calls
Another long day now the hours get small
Riding out this rock and roll rodeo
All that I know is life on this road
Long way from home
In this rodeo
Rodeo, rodeo, rodeo, rodeo
Not my home
All that I know
Is life on this road
Long way from home
In this rodeo
Rodeo, rodeo, rodeo, rodeo
Not my home

Rodeo Or Mexico
For a change
I headed south
Across the border
For the pesos and
A different horse to ride
Id be back to make
The rodeo in waco
But that was long
Before I saw them
Dark brown eyes
With long black hair and
English bad and broken
Her body said the words
She couldnt find
As I hung on every word
She left unspoken
The question started
Leaning on my mind
[chorus:]
Rodeo or mexico
They both can keep
A cowboy satisfied
Rodeo or mexico
The only way
I know how to decide
Is just to get on and ride
We danced all night
Beneath that sheet of cotton
And you just dont
Tell a girl like that goodbye
But the cowboy life
Aint easily forgotten
Though lying there
I couldnt help
But wonder why
[repeat chorus]
The morning
Found the answer
Dawning on me
As I woke up to the
Sharp end of a knife
He was screaming at
The woman hanging on me
Does anybody know the
Spanish word for wife?
[repeat chorus]

Rhinestone Cowboy
I've been walking these streets so long
singing the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
where hustle's the name of the game
and nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
there's been a load of compromising
on the road to my horizon
but I'm gonna be where the lights are shining on me
like a rhinestone cowboy
riding out on a horse
in a star spangled rodeo
like a rhinestone cowboy
getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
and offers coming over the phone
well I really don't mind the rain
and a smile can hide all the pain
but you're down when you're riding the train
that's taking the long way
and I dream of the things I'll do
with a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe
there'll be a load of compromising
on the road to my horizon
but I'm gonna be where the lights are shining on me
like a rhinestone cowboy
riding out on a horse in a star spangled rodeo
rhinestone cowboy
getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
and offers coming over the phone
like a rhinestone cowboy
riding out on a horse in a star spangled rodeo
like a rhinestone cowboy
getting cards and letters from people I don't even know
like a rhinestone cowboy

Rodeo
His eyes are cold and restless
His wounds have almost healed
And shed give half of texas
Just to change the way he feels
She knows his loves in tulsa
And she knows hes gonna go
Well, it aint no woman, flesh and blood
Its that damned old rodeo.
(chorus)
Well, its bulls and blood
Its dust and mud
Its the roar of a sunday crowd
Its the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
Hell win the next go round
Its boots and chaps
Its cowboy hats
Its spurs and latigo
Its the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo.
She does her best to hold him
When his love comes to call
But his need for it controls a man
And her backs against the wall
And its so long girl, Ill see you.
When its time for him to go
You know the woman wants her cowboy
Like he wants his rodeo
*chorus*
Itll drive a cowboy crazy
Itll drive the man insane
And hell sell off everything he owns
Just to pay to play her game
And a broken home and some broken bones
Is all hell have to show
For all the years that he spent chasin
This dream they call rodeo.
*chorus*
Well, its bulls and blood
Its dust and mud
Its the roar of a sunday crowd
Its the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
Hell win the next go round
Its boots and chaps
Its cowboy hats
Its spurs and latigo
Its the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo.
Its the broncs and the blood
Its the steers and the mud
And they call the thing rodeo

Cowboy Song
I am just a cowboy lonesome on the trail
A starry night, a campfire light
The coyote call, the howling winds wail
So I ride out to the old sundown
I am just a cowboy lonesome on the trail
Lord, Im just thinking about a certain female
The nights we spent together riding on the range
Looking back it seems so strange
Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Running free with the buffalo
I was took in texas I did not know her name
Lord, all these southern girls seem the same
Down below the border in a town in mexico
I got my job busting broncs for the rodeo
Roll me over and turn me around
Let me keep spinning till I hit the ground
Roll me over and let me go
Riding in the rodeo
Roll me over and set me free
The cowboys life is the life for me

Other Side Of The Hill
Watch out when they start to twist
Hold tight with a leather fist
Thats what my daddy told me
How to ride the bulls.
Theres a jingle in my jeans,
Short places inbetween;
Im leaving tennesee with a push and pull.
Ten-four, buddy, come on back.
Horse trailer on a cadillac,
Youre talking to the cowboy in the coupe de ville.
Chug a lug up one side, glide down the other,
Im a lover of the other side of the hill.
Turn up that radio & dont think about rodeo,
Dont think about roundup up in old cheyenne.
Its a crazy circuit, but you still work it.
Wont you turn the sound up and lets check the scan.
Ten-four, buddy, come on back.
Horse trailer on a cadillac,
Youre talking to the cowboy in the coupe de ville.
Chug a lug up one side, glide down the other,
Im a lover of the other side of the hill.
Bandanna on the rearview mirror
Still wet from ear to ear;
Once again its provin what the wise men say -
When you ride the last one, you better make it a fast one
Jump while hes movin, just walk away.
Ten-four, buddy, come on back.
Horse trailer on a cadillac,
Youre talking to the cowboy in the coupe de ville.
Chug a lug up one side, glide down the other,
Im a lover of the other side of the hill.

Keep On Ridin
Keep on ridin ...
By tomorrow morning
At the early dawn
I gotta hit the road
So long lady
Till another day, right now
I gotta be movin on
Theres another town and
The singer needs a song
I know youre on your own
Ill be back before too long
I gotta do what I gotta do
And you know how
My heart loves to run, I gotta ride
Keep on ridin
Keep on ridin now
Theres a city waiting
And a railroad station
Where my face is known
And an old hotel
That I know so well
Its a little bit like home
Its a situation
Not of my own choosing
And though a gamblin man
Would say that I was losing
I started out to win
And Ill do it again
Im never givin in
cause if it comes down
To my heart, or to my pride
Im gonna ride
Keep on ridin, keep on ridin
Keep on ridin, yeah
Keep on ridin, keep on ridin
And I know you say
Im driftin, driftin on a dream
Youd better watch your step boy
It may not be what it seems
I just cant shake
This feeling here inside
This heart of mine
Keeps tellin me to ride, ride, ride

Just Like A Rodeo
(roger brown/tommy conners)
Boots in the stirrups out of the gate trying to hold the reins
Praying that I can just sit tight, man this love is strange
Up like a rocket spinning round like a top
My strength is fading fast
I should have known when I climbed on
My next breath could be my last
Somedays Im in the saddle
Somedays I get thrown
Somedays I hold on for dear life
This love is sure nough just like a rodeo
Eight short seconds lasts a long long time
My life flashed before my eyes
Aint never been bucked like this before
But I got to thank you for the ride
Somedays Im in the saddle
Somedays I get thrown
Somedays I hold on for dear life
This love is sure nough just like a rodeo
Somedays Im in the saddle
Somedays I get thrown
Somedays I hold on for dear life
This love is sure nough
Somedays Im in the saddle
Somedays I get thrown
Somedays I hold on for dear life
This love is sure nough just like a rodeo

All I Want
Ride the wild one cowboy in the rodeo
Love like crazy juliet and romeo
Living only to consume
Bruising hearts collecting gloom
Seems no place to hide away
From the hammer and caress
Dress with passion
Fashion for the parking lot
Make some action
Pushing time out of the clock
Take away identity
Parcel up whats left of me
Water down the youthful drop
Call the sane insanity
All I want is to live with you
All I want is to cry with you
Dance til sunrise
Reggae til the cows come home
Fight the bigot
Champion youre not alone
I can sort of work things out
Juggling the fear and doubt
Even when its watertight
In the end I have to say
I can sort of work things out
Juggling the fear and doubt
Even when its watertight
In the end I have to say I have to say
Ride the wild one cowboy in the rodeo
Love like crazy juliet and romeo

Would You Wear a Cowboy Hat for Me
Would you wear a cowboy hat for me?
Even though I know you are a big city boy
I can’t help but like those cowboy hats, you see
So would you wear a cowboy hat for me?
A ten gallon hat, yeah black, now that’s the key
Please say yes, do not be coy
So would you wear a cowboy hat for me?
Even though I know you are a big city boy
Would you wear cowboy boots for me?
Even though I know you are a big city boy
I can’t help but to like those cowboy boots, you see
So would you wear cowboy boots for me?
Rawhide leather, pointy and spurs yeah that’s the key
Please say yes, do not be coy
So would you wear cowboy boots for me?
Even though I know you are a big city boy
Would you ride a horse for me?
Even though I know you are a big city boy
I can’t help but to like horses you see
So would you ride a horse for me?
Stallion, mustang, any kind would be
Please say yes, do not be coy
So would you ride a horse for me?
Even though I know you are a big city boy
Even though you are a big city boy
You ride a horse that’s black
Wear cowboy boots and a ten gallon hat
How can it be - you are now my cowboy

Can Still Make Cheyenne
Her telephone rang bout a quarter to nine
She heard his voice on the other end of the line
She wondered what was wrong this time
She never knew what his calls might bring
With a cowboy like him, it could be anything
And she always expected the worst
In the back of her mind
He said, its cold out here and Im all alone
I didnt make the short go, again and Im coming home
I know Ive been away too long
I never got a chance to write or call
And I know this rodeo has been hard on us all
But Ill be home soon
And honey is there somethin wrong
She said, dont bother comin home
By time you get here Ill be long gone
Theres somebody new and he sure aint no rodeo man
He said, Im sorry its come down to this
Theres so much about you that Im gonna miss
But its alright baby
If I hurry I can still make cheyenne
Gotta go now baby
If I hurry I can still make cheyenne
He left that phone danglin off the hook
Then slowly turned around and gave it one last look
Then he just walked away
He aimed his truck toward that wyoming line
With a little luck he could still get there in time
And in that cheyenne wind he could still hear her say
She said, dont bother comin home
By time you get here Ill be long gone
Theres somebody new and he sure aint no rodeo man
He said, Im sorry its come down to this
Theres so much about you that Im gonna miss
But its alright baby
If I hurry I can still make cheyenne
Gotta go now baby

Cosmic Cowboy
Merry-go-rounds and burial grounds
Are all the same to me.
Horses on post and kids and ghosts
Are spirits that we ought to set free.
Then city slicker pickers got a lot of
Slicker licks than me.
But ridin the range and acting strange
Is where I want to be.
And I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy
I just wanna ride and rope and hoot (hoot!)
Well I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy
Talkin bout a supernatural country rockin galoot
Well skinny dippin and lone star sippin and steel guitar
And are just as good as hollywood and some boogie-woogie bars.
Im gonna buy me a vest and a head out west
My little woman and myself.
And when we come to town the people gather around
And marvel at the little babys health.
And I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy
I just wanna ride and rope and hoot (hoot!)
Well I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy
I said a supernatural country rockin galoot.
Then a big raccoon and a harvest moon
Keep rolling through my mind.
And a home on the range where the antelope play
Is sometimes hard to find.
So dont bury me on the lone prairie.
Id rather play there alive.
Well, Im doing my best I keep my farm in the west
My little bronco in over-drive.
And I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy
I just wanna ride and rope and hoot (hoot!)
Well I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy
Talkin bout a supernatural country rockin galoot.
And I just wanna be a cosmic cowboy

Cowboy Love
(bill douglas/jeff wood)
You drive a baby blue beamer
I drive a pickup truck
Im a member of the good ol boys
Youre a member of the country club
You keep turnin me down when I ask you out
But I aint givin up
Im gonna show you darlin a little cowboy love
Let me broaden your horizons
Teach you bout the finer things in life
Like some late night horseback ridin
Sippin on some southern homemade wine
If a little two steppin, star gazin, breathtakin, lovemakin
Is what your dreamin of
Then let me show you darlin a little cowboy love
You need a little adventure
To ignite your world
I can picture you in cowboy boots
I can picture you a country girl
Once you give me a try then youll know why
You cant get enough
So let me show you darlin a little cowboy love
Let me broaden your horizons
Teach you bout the finer things in life
Like some late night horseback ridin
Sippin on some southern homemade wine
If a little two steppin, star gazin, breathtakin, lovemakin
Is what your dreamin of
Then let me show you darlin a little cowboy love
Underneath the midnight moonlight
Cuddled up real tight
Cozied down by a fire
Listenin to some george strait, george jones
Country love songs youll change your mind
Well let me broaden your horizons
Teach you bout the finer things in life
Like some late night horseback ridin
Sippin on some southern homemade wine
If a little two steppin, star gazin, breathtakin, lovemakin

Little Cowboys Cry
(monte thomas)
Theres a little boy on his knees beside his bed
With a cowboy hat upon his bowed head
Tryin to keep the tears in his eyes
And his heart breaks as the little cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
He says God forgive me please
I didnt want my daddy to leave
And I promise to be good this time
But his heart breaks as the little cowboy cries
Theres another heart in pain outside his door
His momma heard him cry as she walked the floor
Her love for his daddy has died
And her heart breaks as her little cowboy cries
As her cowboy cries
She says God forgive me please
I know I made him leave
But the pain will go away in time
But her heart breaks as her little cowboy cries
In a smoky little bar way downtown
His daddy is drinkin whiskey down
Tryin to kill the pain he feels inside
And his heart breaks as his little cowboy cries
And his cowboy cries
He says God forgive me please
I know I had to leave
Things havent been good for a long, long time
And his heart breaks as his little cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As his cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries
As the cowboy cries

Lonesome Cowboy
(words & music by sid tepper - roy c. bennett)
I am just a lonesome cowboy
And Im travelling all alone
I aint even got a nickel
To call my baby on the phone
Just beyond the mountain lies a city
And I hear it calling me
Saddle up and ride you lonesome cowboy
Here is where youll find your destiny
In my dreams the lights shine bright and pretty
Near to me and yet so far
Will I always be a lonesome cowboy
Am I only reaching for a star
Ride. ride, ride, ride along cowboy
Sing, sing, sing, sing a song cowboy
Will I ever leave this lonesome valley
Really see the lights that shine
Gotta find what lies beyond the mountain
Gotta rope and tie that dream of mine
I am just a lonesome cowboy
And Im travelling all alone
If you dont call me baby
Then Im never coming home

Sayin' Goodbye
I watched every sun up
Comin' over my tin cup
Seen every moon changin'
While I slept with the sky
Felt the chill in the north wind
Find holes that I can't mend
This West Texas cowboy is wrestless again
Campfire light dancin'
On the smiles of some good friends
Wearin' the hard times
In the lines on their faces
Now the seasons are changin'
And it's time I was leavin'
'Cause this West Texas cowboy is wrestless again
So I'm sayin' goodbye-ye, ridin' away-ay
Sayin' goodbye-ye agai-ain
I'm wishin' you well, miss you unti-il
I come back again ne-ext year...
Let's sing of the good days
And drink to the ladies
Till the whisky's all gone
And their pleasure is mine
Come sit here besi-ide me
Sweet lullaby me
This West Texas cowboy is wrestless again
Sayin' goodbye-ye, ridin' away-ay
Sayin' goodbye-ye agai-ain
Wishin' you we-ell, miss you unti-il
I come back again ne-ext year
Sayin' goodbye-ye, ridin' away-ay
Sayin' goodbye-ye agai-ain
Wishin' you we-ell, I'll miss you unti-il
I come back again ne-ext year

I'd Rather Be A Cowboy
This song appears on six albums, and was first released on the farewell andromeda album, and has also been released on the changes, country classics, the country roads collection and the rocky m
In collection albums. a live version also appears on the best of john denver live album.
Jesse went away last summer, a couple of months ago
After all our time together, it was hard to see her go
She called me right up when she arrived, asked me one more time to come
Or livin' on an la freeway, ain't my kinda havin' fun
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
I think i'd rather ride the reigns
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
Then to lay me down and love the lady's chains
We were just beginnin', it was such an easy way
Layin' back up in the mountains, makin' songs for summer days
She got tired of pickin' daisies, cookin' my meals for me
She can live the life she wants to, yes, it's alright with me
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
I think i'd rather ride the reigns
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
Then to lay me down and love the lady's chains
I'd rather live on the side of a mountain
Than wander through canyons of concrete and steel
I'd rather laugh with the rain and the sunshine
Then lay down my sun down in some starry field
Oh, but i miss her in the morning, when i awake alone
The absence of her laughter, is a cold and empty sound
But her memory always makes me smile, and i want you to know
I love her yes i love her, just enough to let her go
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
I think i'd rather ride the reigns
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
Then to lay me down and love the lady's chains
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
I think i'd rather ride the reigns
I think i'd rather be a cowboy
Then to lay me down and love lady's chains
