Forsythia
Yellow baby,
A yellow baby is a bad sign.
But I dont mind, I dont mind,
Ohhh, forsythia.
Spider monkey,
A spider monkey is a good lie.
But I dont know why,
Ohhh, forsythia, oh-ohhh.
I dont mind sitting in the way way back.
I dont mind, lying to my friends.
One thing about forsythia,
She comes around and I get lost
Against her yellow, Im no longer me.
Yellow daisy, a dandelion or a pussy willow,
Its a different thing.
Oh-oh, forsythia. forsythia. forsythia.
One thing about forsythia,
She comes around and I get lost
Against her yellow Im no longer me.
One thing about forsythia
Theres one thing about forsythia

Cana
What can I tell you that you don't know
that will make you tremble again?
Forsythia
by the roadside, by
wet rocks, on the embankments
underplanted with hyacinth --
For ten years I was happy.
You were there; in a sence,
you were always with me, the house, the garden
constrantly lit,
not with lights as we have in the sky
but with those emblems of light
which are more powerful, being
implicitly some earthly
thing transformed --
And all of it vanished,
reabsorbed into impassive process. Then
what will we see by,
now that the yellow torches have become
green branches?

Spring On The Runway
Spring wears gray today
Twirling in a foggy mist,
but her underlying colors
of daffodil orange and yellow,
azalea purple, and pink
tulip red and splashes of white...
What a sight to behold!
Forsythia gold,
so bold,
apple-blossom pink
thinks
spring is ravishin in gray and
her smile comes shinning through,
to prove it's true.

Gray Room
Although you sit in a room that is gray,
Except for the silver
Of the straw-paper,
And pick
At your pale white gown;
Or lift one of the green beads
Of your necklace,
To let it fall;
Or gaze at your green fan
Printed with the red branches of a red willow;
Or, with one finger,
Move the leaf in the bowl--
The leaf that has fallen from the branches of the forsythia
Beside you...
What is all this?
I know how furiously your heart is beating.

The Yellow Rainbow
Way way up way up in the sky
I am sitting on a rainbow
Holding tight so I won't slide
I am sitting on a yellow rainbow
Yeah my baby
It is a yellow rainbow
There is no green
There is no red
There is no blue
Purple or any other hue
Yet it is a rainbow
A rainbow of seven yellow stripes...
Nahh dont let me slide
Dont let me fall
Keep me up there
Way way up up in the sky
Atop my rainbow
With seven yellow stripes....!

Dont Mess Up This Good Thing
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing
Well, I think youve had a long time
To get your act together
Its your move and I hope you do the right thing
You know I never wanna lose you
But you must learn to play the game by the rules
Show me how much my love means to you
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing (what we have together)
Dont mess up, no baby
Well, forever may be
More time than anyone can offer
But all my time is spent in your corner
Heaven knows how much I love you
But if you think I can watch you play on me and understand it
Baby, youre taking far too much for granted
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing (what we have together)
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing (if you still believe)
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up, baby (no one can love you better)
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing
Got to find the right words to make you see
That you and I were meant to be
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess it up
Dont mess up this good thing
Well, forever may be
More time than anyone can offer
But all my time is spent in your corner
Heaven knows how much I love you
But if you think I can watch you play on me and understand it
Baby, youre taking far too much for granted
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing (what we have together)
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing (if you still believe)
Dont mess up this good thing (ooh dont mess it up baby)
Dont mess up this good thing (no one can love you better)
Dont mess up this good thing (sho dont mess it up)
Dont mess up this good thing (Ive got what you need)
Dont mess up this good thing
Dont mess up this good thing (what weve got together)

April 9, 1999 (for Ethelbert)
In Brooklyn when the flowering
forsythia escaped the concrete patterns
of tight winter days
I didn’t think about long
distances
or F-117s in contrast
to a lover or an army
on the ground
up close
and personal as washing out a shirt
by hand
the soapsuds and the fingers and the cloth
an ordinary ritual
to interdict the devils of 2,000 lb. bombs
dropped from more than 25,000 feet above
the children
scrambling from the schoolyard
suddenly aflame
until you called from Washington
D.C.
to say
'Oh, let me be
that shirt!'

Dont Mess Up A Good Thing
(o. sain)
Good thing, good thing, good thing
You been cheating on me, now, baby
You know I know its true
Aint nobody in this whole wide world
Gonna love you like I do
Dont you be no fool, dont you be no fool
Gonna keep on fooling round now, baby
Gonna mess up a good thing
Gonna mess up a good thing, all right
Well, I might of cheated just a little bit baby
Like many others do
But when I get my little old paycheck now
It goes right back to you
Dont you be no fool, dont you be no fool
cause if you keep on fooling around now, baby
Gonna mess up a good thing, youre going to mess up a good thing
They tell me you got a part-time lover
Whos living way cross town
It wont be but a little while, baby
Before you put me down
Dont you be no fool, dont you be no fool
Gonna keep on fooling round now, baby
Gonna mess up a good thing
Gonna mess up a good thing, all right
Let me tell you something
Now, dont you go sneaking across town, baby
To catch me doing wrong
Dont you know everybodys jealous, baby
cause we got a thing going on
Dont you be no fool, dont you be no fool
If you keep on fooling round now baby
Gonna mess up a good thing
Gonna mess up a good thing
Good thing [youre messing up a good thing]

Good thing

A Thing About You
Im not much on mystery
Yeah you gotta be careful what you dream
I thought this might pass with time
Yeah I thought I was satisfied
But oh baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It dont matter what you say
It dont matter what you do
I , i, i, got a thing about you
Somewhere deep in the middle of the night
Lovers hold each other tight
Whisper in their anxious ears
Words of love that disappear
But oh baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It dont matter what you say
It dont matter what you do
I, i, i, got a thing about you
Baby you own some strange control over me
Yeah its so wild it hypnotizes me
Raise both hands
But oh baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It dont matter what you say
It dont matter what you do
I, i, i, got a thing about you

Dont You Worry bout A Thing
(s. wonder)
Everybodys got a thing
But some dont know how to handle it
Always reachin out in vain
Just taking the things not worth havin
Chorus:
But dont you worry bout a thing
Dont you worry bout a thing (dont you worry, baby)
cause Ill be standing on the side when you check it out
They say your style of lifes a drag
And that you must go other places
Just dont you feel too bad
When you get fooled by smiling faces
Chorus
When you get off your trip
Dont you worry bout a thing
Dont you worry bout a thing
Chorus
Everybody needs a change
A chance to check out the new
Youre the only one who see
The changes you take yourself through
Dont you worry bout a thing
Dont you worry bout a thing (sweet baby)

Dont you worry bout a thing

Dont worry, dont worry, dont worry cause Ill be right here waitin for you baby

Nothing Like A Hundred Miles
I have tried to forget about you
And all the plans that we had planned
Yes, and Im bound to leave this town
I dont care where I may land
If what theyre telling me is true
And you have found somebody new
To love you
There aint but one thing I can do, baby
To save my heart from being broken in two by you
Baby, Im moving through
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
Between me and trouble in my mind
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
Show me the yellow line
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
When Im only passing through
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
To make me forget about you
Forget about you, baby
Dont we like our found farewells
And dont we like to keep our good-byes
Nice and clean
You may wish Id go to hell
While you tell me what a pleasure its been
So long, baby, Im moving on
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
Between me and trouble in mind
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
Somebody show me the yellow line
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
When Im only passing through
Theres nothing like a hundred miles
To make me forget about you
Forget about you
I have tried to forget about you
Baby, I have failed
Just as long as I stay in houston
I will

Farewell To Winter
Farewell to Winter as it passes by,
To the heavy clouds beneath the gloomy sky,
And to the slumber of the snow-covered earth
That soon will be awakened to a new birth.
I'll miss sled riding on the steep hill,
And ice skating on the pond near the old mill,
The giggling of children playing in the snow,
And throwing snowballs at a targeted goal.
The shrubs and trees that were covered white
Will be replaced by new foliage and blossoms bright.
The colorful tulips standing tall side by side
Will sway in the Spring's warm breeze with pride.
Throughout the countryside, a new life is arriving,
Yellow forsythia and daffodils are thriving,
Birds have returned, filling the air with song,
Spring has arrived and winter is now gone.
I'll miss all the winter activities now at rest,
But I readily admit that I enjoy the Spring the best.
The offerings of Spring are delightful and bright,
A diversion from the arms of winter's might.

Entering Your Heart
I came in crawling
With an absent-minded smile
I had so many things un-tied that summer night
When I decided it was worth another try
Entering your heart.. ohh yeah
Close your eyes
Dont say a word
All your thoughts must go un-heard
And i......
Have failed so many times....
Entering your mind....
Entering your mind....
Im not the most important one under the sun
I dont have any power connections to the pentagon
But Ive got something of my own, that must get done
Entering you heart
Ohhh... entering your heart
Close your eyes
Dont tell a soul....
All you dreams must be told....
And i.....
Have failed so many times....
Entering you mind....
Entering you mind
Ohhh...
Ohhh...
I......
Have failed so many times....
Entering your mind....
Entering your mind....
Ohhh..... entering you heart
Woah.. entering you heart

Dont You Want Me
You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on youve got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But dont forget its me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too
Dont, dont you want me?
You know I cant believe it when I hear that you wont see me
Dont, dont you want me?
You know I dont believe you when you say that you dont need me
Its much too late to find
You think youve changed your mind
Youd better change it back or we will both be sorry
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
That much is true
But even then I knew Id find a much better place
Either with or without you
The five years we have had have been such good times
I still love you
But now I think its time I lived my life on my own
I guess its just what I must do
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh
Dont you want me baby? dont you want me - oh

Small Comfort
Coffee and cigarettes in a clean cafe,
forsythia lit like a damp match against
a thundery sky drunk on its own ozone,
the laundry cool and crisp and folded away
again in the lavender closet-too late to find
comfort enough in such small daily moments
of beauty, renewal, calm, too late to imagine
people would rather be happy than suffering
and inflicting suffering. We're near the end,
but O before the end, as the sparrows wing
each night to their secret nests in the elm's green dome
O let the last bus bring
love to lover, let the starveling
dog turn the corner and lope suddenly
miraculously, down its own street, home.

Dont Let Me Down
(clarke)
The sun is overshadowed by the presence of the moon
Night time has fallen shell be comin home soon
Leave the door wide open, ah, so she wont need a key
Lock it behind you baby draw the blinds so no-one can see
Theres only one thing on my mind
Dont let dont let me down
Dont let dont let me down
My feelings are near the ground
Silence is golden, ah, for me theres just one choice
The music of your laughter, rippling of your voice
The freshness of the evergreen, ah, fades as if too shy
Cant compete with your beauty, couldnt if it tried
Theres only one thing on my mind
Dont let, dont let me down
Dont let, dont let me down
My feelings are near the ground
Lets build something to climb on
Making the show a live one
No need for make-up lets be real
Give all in what your giving
Making life worth living
Being alives how you should feel
Oh and dont let, dont let me down
My feelings are near the ground
Dont want the sun to be shining
Raising his eyebrows at the moon
Saying I told you so she wouldnt show
Well dont speak too soon
I hear her footsteps walking on the outer floor
Well it could be, I dont know, I dont know for sure
Theres only one thing on my mind
Dont let, dont let me down
Dont let, dont let me down
My feelings are near the ground
Come on back, cant live without you
Come on back, (I need you, I need you, I) cant live without you
Come on back, (I want you, I want you, I)cant live without you
Come on back, (cmon, cmon, cmon, I) cant live without you
Come on back, (I love you, I love you, I) cant live without you
Come on back, (I need you, I need you, I) cant live without you

Tell Me, Tell Me... Baby
Oh
Hold on, uh
You know what?
Can we back it up
Just a little bit?
Said i
Said i
Why
Tell me oh
Were born the same day
We even think the same way
I couldnt be more right
We are what they call
A perfect match
Something that you cant touch
Down to the last bone
Youre my baby
But to be honest
Theres just one thing
A part that is missing
You dont seem to care at all
Tell me, tell me baby
How come you
Dont want to love me?
Dont you know
That I cant breathe without you?
Tell me, tell me just how
What am I supposed to do
Right now?
Why cant you love me?
Why?
Tell me, my baby
Now from the moment we met
I thought that I was all set
How could I be so wrong?
Now Im hearing that
Youre seeing someone new
And I wanna know who
Does he love you like I do?
My baby
Can I promise you this one thing
Whatever is missing
I will make it up to you
Tell me, tell me baby
How come you
Dont want to love me?
Dont you know
That I cant breathe without you?
Tell me, tell me just how
What am I supposed to do
Right now?
Why cant you love me?
Why?
Tell me, my baby
Getting under my skin
Messing up my mind
Never let me
Into your life and
Tell me baby
How come you
Dont wanna love me
And how
Im supposed to live without
If there is no way
To make you
Feel the same way too?
Ooh
Tell me, tell me
Tell me, tell me
Were born the same day
We even think the same way
Tell me baby
Tell me, tell me baby
How come you
Dont want to love me?
Dont you know
That I cant breathe without you?
Tell me, tell me just how
What am I supposed to do
Right now?
Why cant you love me?
Why?
Tell me, my baby
Tell me, tell me baby
How come you
Dont want to love me?
Dont you know
That I cant breathe without you?
Tell me, tell me just how
What am I supposed to do
Right now?
Why cant you love me?
Why?
Tell me, my baby
Tell me, tell me, tell me
Tell me, tell me, tell me
Tell me, tell me, tell me

Real World
I wonder what its like to be the rainmaker
I wonder what its like to know that I made the rain
Id store it in boxes with little yellow tags on everyone
And you can come and see them when im...done, when Im done
I wonder what its like to be a super hero
I wonder where Id go if I could fly around downtown
From some other planet, I get this funky high on yellow sun
Boy I bet my friends will all be...stunned, theyre stunned
(chorus)
Straight up, what did you hope to learn about here
If I were someone else, would this all fall apart
Strange, where were you, when we started this gig,
I wish the real world, would just stop hassling me
I wonder what its like to be the head honcho
I wonder what Id do if they all did just what I said
Id shout out an order, I think were out of this man get me some
Boy dont make me wanna change my...tone, my tone
(chorus)
Please dont change, please dont break
The only thing that seems to work at all is you
Please dont change, at all from me
To you, and you to me

The Yellow Ribbon On The Old Oak Tree
who can forget the yellow ribbon
on that old oak tree? tell me.
tomorrow, i shall wear my yellow cap
my yellow shirt, my yellow brief,
my yellow pants.
my jaundiced eye, my golden yellow ring.
tomorrow, in my country, the sky is yellow.
all steps lead to the yellow brick road.
all fruits are ripe and mellow and yellow.
Tomorrow, the country is yellow.
Yellow for integrity, Yellow for change.
Yellow for justice. Yellow for truth.
One day more, and the sun shall rise
Yellow as ever.Yellow forever.
