The Serpent Is Rising
Written by john curulewski, chuck lofrano
Lead vocals by john curulewski
In the abyss of space
From the center of time
A superman race
Moves the serpent to climb
The journey has lasted
Seven ages or more
Life after life
Must pass through the door
The secret revealed
When you leave your cave
Is a glory of thunder
And life from the grave
The serpent is rising
Uncoiling in your spine
Bringing you light
From the depths of your mind
The people have massed
In the center of town
We drink from a glass
And the world turns around
The serpent is rising
Uncoiling in your spine
Bringing you light
From the depths of your mind
The serpent is rising
Uncoiling in your spine
Bringing you light
From the depths of your mind
The serpent is rising
Uncoiling in your spine
Bringing you light
From the depths of your mind

Nightmares (Revised, In Line Form, Oh and Viewable)
Chills run up my spine.
Pictures of bodies rising out of the ground.
Its another nightmare.
Its another nightmare.
Its my nightmare.
With word as my weapons.
I cut through the book ages.
With my hollow mind I bear the secrets of the darkest despair.
Suicide on the mined.
I'll save you.
I'll save you.
And still you died.
The picture fades.
But such a gruesome scene screws up the head in ways never seen before.
Still chills run down my spine.
Pictures of bodies rising out of the ground.
Its a nightmare.
Its a nightmare.
Its my nightmare.
The tears run red.
Using leeches to get bled.
Strangers laying in your bed.
A Grievance with the undead.
A broken wedlock with dire consequences.
Memorabilia with a satanic meaning.
Going crazy, getting sick coughing up blood.
The clown with a wicked smile wants to give you a hug.
Chills still run down my spine.
Pictures of bodies rising out of the ground.
Its a nightmare.
Its a nightmare.
Its my nightmare.
Being buried alive.
Darkening skies.
An eclipse of an false sunrise.
Spider creepy crawling out of my eyes.
A bleeding in the brain disguised.
A doctor performing surgery while your awake.
The fears have reappeared.
Chill still run down my spine.
Its a nightmare.
Its a nightmare.
Its my nightmares.

The Storm Still Rages Inside
The lightning flashes tension's high
Bringing light to darkened skies
Like Jonah in the belly of the beast
Inside the ark the sound desist
And so the ark was swept
upon the rising water...
Forty days and forty nights
There came a mighty flood upon the land
Where once were green pastures
teeming with life
Now were oceans deeper than abyss
"Out of depths of sorrow I cry
Before thee i lye
If this world shall inherit the mild
Hear your orphaned child..."
Lord pray tell save they child
the storm still rages inside
Lord guide them
Undo a dry land, Amen.

The snake
Lord, when the leviathan rose
out of the dark depths
of the raging sea
uncoiling itself
twisting to strike at Thee,
Thy mighty great sword
stroke the serpent dragon
piercing and slaying it
and to this day I wonder
what this creature could be,
as no such creature have being seen.
While some speculate on crocodile
as being too powerful to be caught
like a fish,
or killed by man with a spear, sword or harpoon
having a neck, strong frame, nostrils
and scales
it doesn’t truly fit the picture
as it doesn’t live in the ocean
or dwell in the sea
and Canaanite mythology
tells of a seven headed primeval monster
untwisting itself to fight Thee.
l’Envoi
Yet still more the snake from the tree
took a bite at Thee
and Thy sacrifice
set all men free.

She Works the Night
She Works the Night
She Works the Night
Prowling as if to pounce
She sees, she blows, she'll get every ounce
Watch out brother, don't take this serpent light
She Works the Night
Everything she does is calculated and cold
How do they stay when she shows them just how bold
Watch out brother, she's a REAL serpent, better learn to fight
She Works the Night
Loves the work so much she can't get enough
She's does them, does them again, believe me she's tough
Watch out brother, this serpent has some might
She Works the Night
She's offered the chance to change her fate
She devours the man so all he can do is hate
Watch out brother, I told you she was The Serpent, now you know I'm right
Home
I aint never going home
cause Im having a good time
I aint never going home
cause my time is come
Ill wait for the winter
To lie at my door
White stretches out before me
Leads me to the hall
White circles play within my mind
Ices over and freezes life
Time will come, time will come, time will fall
Bringing the world to its feet
Bringing the world to its feet
I aint never turning back
cause Ive come this far
And Im lost within my tracks
I will follow the north star
Ill wait till the springtime
Is breathing at my door
The wilderness before me
Heeds the lions roar
White circles play within my mind
Ices over and freezes life
Time will come, time will come, time will fall
Bringing the world to its feet
Bringing the world to her hands and her knees
Ill wait till the winter
Is lying at my door
Time stretches out before me
A stones throw from the door
White circles play within my mind
Ices over and freezes life
Time will come, time will come, time will fall
Bringing the world to its feet
Bringing the world to her hands and her feet
Bringing the world to its feet

I Am On The Edge Of My Own Universe
I AM ON THE EDGE OF MY OWN UNIVERSE
I am on the edge of my own universe
Not going higher
About to fall-
Drawn back into the depths of the depths of the depths
Of my own deadly despair.
I am on the edge of life with others-
One small step across
And I am there -
The wide worlds open before me
The sky all light
Nothing in my way-
And I move freely
From where I am
To where I will be next
Happy in mind
Unable to fall-

The First Moment
A door opens in the center of our being and we seem to fall through it into immense depths which, although they are infinite, are all accessible to us; all eternity seems to have become ours in this one placid and breathless contact.
Thomas Merton, Seeds of Contemplation
The approach is clear;
light of day,
bright sky
beyond my
silken shroud,
the door is open,
but I am afraid.
Should I pass through,
perhaps descend to
endless depths?
I listen,
I hear you calling me
calling me;
come home.
so, breathless,
trembling with life,
I begin.

Butter
Pull me from the toaster
Straight into the roaster
Fill my head with the stuff
Brightest dreams are made of
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Duh
Promising the big guns
Reward when the light comes
Screaming from the damage done
Screaming from the damage done
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Duh
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up like I know you will
Cover it up like I know you will
Better yourself like I know you will
Breaking the trust like you always will
Be good for it, you never will
Be good for it, you never will
Be good for it, you never will
Be good for it, you never will
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up, butter me up
Butter me up, butter me up
Duh
So you think you got the best
Thought I was like all the rest
Reaping from the damage done
Reaping from the damage done
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Bringing me down again
Duh

Two Worlds
Like a dream, my life has gone past me
Taken so soon but love burns so true
Love never ending that shines like the stars in the sky
And I sing but so few can hear me
Words from the heart to set your souls free
Time has no distance deep in love
Know everything goes
Everyone knows theres something beyond us
There is a light believe me
Time turns into dust
Cry if you must
But love is the answer
Bringing two worlds together
Who can see the secrets that bind us?
Back to the earth til love rings so true
Eyes of compassion and tears of a deepening heart
I have seen the pain of a cruel world
And reached out a hand for suffering to ease
Bringing some comfort to the tears
Know everything goes
Everyone knows theres something beyond us
There is a light believe me
Time turns into dust
Cry if you must
But love is the answer
Bringing two worlds together into one
A mountain of flowers and the perfume
Floating so high
Hush and the stillness in a million minds
Know everything goes
Everyone knows theres something beyond us
There is a light believe me
Time turns into dust
Cry if you must
But love is the answer
Bringing two worlds together into one

Lost
Uh!
Why cant I decide why my feelings I hide?
Always screwing with my mind, a thorn in my spine.
Oh sure, it feels fine, wasting all our time.
In the back of my mind, a thorn in my spine.
Wait! see it before my eyes.
Why? do I turn away?
Looking all the time, at your face so blind.
Feeling uptight, always the same fight.
Hey man now decide, go ahead take your time.
Kissing all the time, that thorn in my spine.
Wait! you cannot see inside
Why! play yourself out that way
Why! you and me always hate
Wait! werent you my friend?
The pain in which I could not feel!
Hey man look inside, now you need your own life.
Remember me guy? that thorn in your spine.
Waiting all the time, Im doing mighty fine.
Remember me guy? the thorn in your spine.
Wait! you cannot see inside.
Why? play yourself out that way
Why? you and me always hate
Wait! werent you my friend
Wait! you were my friend.

Olaf trygvason
Broad the sails o'er the North Sea go;
High on deck in the morning glow
Erling Skjalgsson from Sole
Scans all the sea toward Denmark:
'Cometh never Olaf Trygvason?'
Six and fifty the ships are there,
Sails are let down, toward Denmark stare
Sun-reddened men;-then murmur:
'Where is the great Long Serpent?
Cometh never Olaf Trygvason?'
When the sun in the second dawn
Cloudward rising no mast had drawn,
Grew to a storm their clamor:
'Where is the great Long Serpent?
Cometh never Olaf Trygvason?'
Silent, silent that moment bound,
Stood they all; for from ocean's ground
Sighed round the fleet a muffled:
'Taken the great Long Serpent,
Fallen is Olaf Trygvason.'
Ever since, through so many a year,
Norway's ships must beside them hear,
Clearest in nights of moonshine:
'Taken the great Long Serpent,
Fallen is Olaf Trygvason.'

Sunrise
O rising Sun, so fair and gay,
What are you bringing me, I pray,
Of sorrow or of joy to-day?
You look as if you meant to please,
Reclining in your gorgeous ease
Behind the bare-branched apple-trees.
The world is rich and bright, as though
The pillows where your head is low
Had lit the fields of driven snow.
The hoar-frost on the window turns
Into a wood of giant ferns
Where some great conflagration burns.
And all my children comes again
As lightsome and as free from stain
As those frost-pictures on the pane.
I would that I could mount on high
And meet you, Sun--that you and I
Had to ourselves the whole wide sky.
But here my poor soul has to stay,
So tell me, rising Sun, I pray,
What are you bringing me to-day?
What shall this busy brain have thought,
What shall these hands and feet have wrought,
What sorrows shall the hours have brought,
Before thy brilliant course is run,
Before this new-born day is done,
Before you set, O rising Sun?

A Southern Girl's, Uncoiling
Whenever I mention you,
the doctor always asks
what do I see,
now that you're gone,
when I think of you.
I say I see thighs,
tanned and gleaming,
kissed by the proper
Bonwit skirt, rising
through the terminal
toward me and above
your thighs
that smile,
a Southern girl's,
uncoiling.

Rainbow Snake
This story of the Rainbow Serpent is an Australian aboriginal legend and I have re-told it, with the best of intentions, for an international audience. I may have made some changes to the story and I hope my re-telling is true to the spirit of the original versions.
the rainbow snake
see it tickles
the frogs
and water fills the rivers and gullies
and waterholes;
and see the rainbow snake
see it brings forth
all life sleeping before
it is the beginning
and the earth is bare and barren
and the Rainbow Serpent
dear Ngalyod, powerful Borlung
the lovely Rainbow Serpent
she moves across the earth
and where she moves
see
how she creates tracks and dry courses
and huge craters;
and see how the Rainbow Serpent
she digs into the earth and emerges crashing into the air
on the other earth side of the world
and see how she throws up mountains and crags
and hills and mounds
and the Uluru and ravines;
and she calls the frogs
who come in heavy and bloated
and she tickles the frogs
and the frogs laugh
and the waters flow and the rains have come
and the dry lands are replete
with billabongs, rivers, creeks and lagoons
and the mighty oceans;
and the Rainbow Serpent is pleased
and she calls forth all
sleeping beings
and they all awake
and the Rainbow Serpent is pleased
and she provides them laws
and she disappears into another waterhole
and you can see her
you can see the Benevolent Rainbow Serpent
as she travels from one waterhole to another
as she emerges from one and she is in the sky
and you can see her
the lovely creative Rainbow Serpent in the sky
and she disappears soon enough
into another huge waterhole
somewhere on our earth
the rainbow snake
see it tickles
the frogs
and water fills the rivers and gullies
and waterholes;
and see the rainbow snake
see it brings forth
all life sleeping before

Faded Words Among the Footprints
Mystic beneath the moonlight beckons
Forever humbled at my feet
The shooting star that rises in the heavens
To only fall upon the light of flint and bone
To break away the burdens of the flesh
Within the light of Heaven's soul
Am I forever humbled by the swaying in the breeze
As the lonesome traveller
Comes to pass amongst us in the trees?
For now the light has faded
Beneath the beat of Heaven's wings
The sound of angels singing
Within the depths of my very heart
As the tears fall from the heavens
Will my soul be swept away?
In the distance there's a beacon
That lights the passage of my way
Only in the shadow shall I wait
For the light of the rising day
Swept away by life's sweet sorrow
Beneath the light of Heaven cleft
Where I wait within the light of gentle slumber
Where the footprints leave no mark
Be still my beating heart for I am forever humbled
By the light within my soul

The Real Depths Of Love We Do Not Know (Roundelay)
In the morning we are awakening
to the rising sun as a shining thing,
during the year seasons come and they go;
while the real depths of love we do not know.
From a baby’s first inquiring small cry,
until the very day that we do die
endlessly rivers to the sea do flow;
while the real depths of love we do not know.
From the very act of our own creation
to sin our parents had an invitation
and by his own death God did his love show,
while the real depths of love we do not know.
We teach each child, our own daughter and son,
the principles of love until we are gone,
while the wind eternally dies and blow;
while the real depths of love we do not know.

The Spine Surfs Alone
Oh look out now
Just between the shoulders
Here it comes -- the spine
Oh look out now
Just between your shoulders
The spine surfs alone
Good times
Oh look out now
Just between your shoulders
What will cure you?
Bacitracin
Campho-phenique
Calamine lotion
Nothing's gonna help you now
The spine surfs alone
So said the rule book
As it was written, it will be
The spine surfs alone

Venom In A Kiss *recommended
It creeps up
Silently, stealthily
Hissing the warning
But I pay no heed
Blinded by the sheer strength
The power
The brute beauty
Of the serpent
The venomous master
The warning goes unnoticed
Naïve and blinded
I invite it in
The serpent
Now victorious
With one final kiss
Seals my fate
The serpent
Now mocking me
As I fall
Into the arms of death
That I brought upon myself

People who comprehend a thing to its very depths rarely stay faithful to it forever. For they have brought its depths into the light of day: and in the depths there is always much that is unpleasant to see.

The Snake
Like sable coils of twisted cord that glisten in the light,
Scales round with tiger stripes are scored, death spoiling for a fight.
Draped on a stump - a tree long dead, bone dry in heat of day;
A flickering fork from poisoned head that smells the air for prey.
Mulberry bow; Black fletched with crow: an arrow, notched, half drawn.
The boy, the hunter, stealing slow, makes not a sound to warn.
The serpent looks with steely eyes, that see no danger yet.
Though close below its burrow lies, the hunter's trap is set.
A powerful arc, a full drawn bow; The snake in mortal fear,
It dashes for its den below, an arrow thudding near.
A blur of sleek uncoiling rings, swift down the hole it glides;
The bow string twangs, the arrow sings, through flesh and bone it slides.
The threshing tail flies side to side, a writhing lashing whip;
Escape from certain death denied, held in the arrow's grip.
The hunter draws it from its lair, lays on the ground his prize;
The vanquished of a contest fair, like bloodied rope it lies.
And so plays out the ancient duel ‘twixt snake and son of man;
Lays slain the fleeing serpent cruel, as in the Maker's plan.
