The Canal
The canal is thronged with party barges
Fairy lit for the season
Laced with laughter
Floating in the deepest night
Beneath stranger stars
Alien constellations themselves

Beltway Darkness
Beltway darkness erupts tsunami
Flooding ruined marble buildings,
Blood-dimmed tide swelling,
Corruption waist deep in Congress halls,
Clotted waters brimming;
Jackals howl atop walnut desks
While drowning hyenas laugh.
The Emperor has his lunch.
